第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡将该项涂黑。

A

Most of us let our eyes decide what our bodies need. Our ideas about what we are more important than the food itself, what our stomachs can hold, or what we need in this moment for good, strong energy. Our families, social situations, society, and marketing campaigns dictate the choices most people make about how they feed themselves. Sometimes we’re provided with very useful guidelines and models. But you need to stop and ask: Are you feeding yourself in ways that personally make sense to your body’s unique and ever-changing needs and rhythms?

In this country, food is available all the time. Unlike our ancestors who ate in harmony with seasonal cycles of abundance(丰富)and scarcity(缺乏),harvest and hunting, we eat as though we’re constantly feasting. Really, we eat non-stop. We fill our stomachs until we’re uncomfortable, and we put more food in the shopping cart than we need. This abundance of food and our own fast-paced convenience culture keep us from recognizing our own personal rhythms. We eat for many reasons, not necessarily because we’re physically hungry or need certain nutrients to keep healthy.

With more and more processed foods(精加工的食品)in the marketplace, obesity(肥胖)in adults and children dramatically on the rise, and digestive problems increasingly more common, it’s clear that we’re facing a serious health crisis. The answer, however, isn’t to just put Americans on a diet. Reducing the intake(吸收)of processed food and increasing fresh produce and whole grains certainly can improve one’s health. But we need more. We need to feed ourselves with a sense of purpose, focus, self-love, and passion for our lives.

61.In the first paragraph, the author suggests we .

A.let our eyes decide what we should eat

B.choose eating ways that always make sense

C.make our eating styles meet our taste only

D. not accept those guidelines and models

62.What does the underlined part mean in the text?

A.Seasonal foods can be easily bought.

B.foods can keep fresh all the time.

C.People are wasting foods nowadays.

D. The prices of foods have been changing

63.By saying “we eat for many reasons”, the author in fact wants to show .

A.people are easy to become hungry

B.nutrients are necessary for us to keep healthy

C.sometimes people eat not only for their health

D. eating can benefit our body in many ways

64.Which of the following may cause health crisis?

A.Processed foods B.Fresh produce

C.Whole grains D. Various vegetables

B

One hundred and thirteen million Americans have at least one bank-issued credit card(信用卡).They give their owners automatic(自动的)credit in stores, restaurants, and hotels, at home, across the country, and even abroad, and they make many bank services available as well. More and more of these credit cards can be read automatically, making it possible to withdraw(取回)or deposit money in scattered locations, whether or not the local branch bank is open. For many of us the “cashless society” is not on the horizon—it’s already here.

While computers offer these conveniences to consumers, they have many advantages for sellers, too. Electronic cash registers can do much more than simply ring up sales. They can keep a wide range of records, including who sell what, when, and to whom. This information allows businessmen to keep track of their list of goods by showing which items are being sold and how fast they are moving. Decisions to record or return goods to suppliers can then be made. At the same time these computers record which hours are busiest and which employees are the most effective, allowing personnel and staffing assignments(人员安排)to be made accordingly. And they also identify preferred customers for promotional campaigns. Computers are relied on by manufactures for similar reasons. Computer-analyzed marketing reports can help to decide which products to emphasize(强调)now, which to develop for the future, and which to drop. Computers keep track of goods in stock, of raw materials on hand, and even the production process itself.

Numerous other commercial enterprises, from theaters to magazine publishers, from gas and

electric utilities(公用事业)to milk processors, bring better and more efficient services to consumers through the use of computers.

65. According to the passage, the credit card enables its owner to .

A.withdraw as much money from the bank as he wishes

B.obtain more convenient services than other people do

C.enjoy greater trust from the storekeeper

D. cash money wherever he wishes to

66.From the last sentence of the first paragraph we learn that .

A.in the future all the Americans will use credit cards

B.credit cards are mainly used in the United Stated today

C.nowadays many Americans do not pay in cash

D. it is now more convenient to use credit cards than before

67.The phrase “ring up sales” in Paragraph 2 most probably means “”.

A.make an order of goods B.record sales on a cash register

C.call the sales manager D. keep track of the goods in stock

68. What is the passage mainly about?

A.Approaches to the commercial use of computers.

B.Conveniences brought about by computers in business.

C.Significance of automation in commercial enterprises.

D. Disadvantages of credit cards in business.

C

Attitude is an internal(内在的)state that influences the choices of personal action made by the individual(个人).Some researchers consider that attitudes come from differences between beliefs and ideas; others believe that attitudes come from emotional states. Here, we focus on the effects of attitudes upon behavior, that is , upon the choices of action made by the individual.

The kinds of actions taken by human beings are obviously influenced greatly by attitudes. Whether one listens to classical music or rock. Whether one obeys the speed limit while driving, whether one encourages one’s husband or wife to express his or her own ideas—all are influenced by attitudes. These internal states are acquired(获得)throughout life from situations one is faced with in the home, in the streets, and in the school.

Of course, the course of action chosen by an individual in any situation will be largely determined by the particulars of that situation. An individual who has a strong attitude of obeying laws may drive too fast when he is in a hurry and no police cars in sight. A child who has a strong attitude of honesty may steal a penny when she thinks no one will notice. But the internal state which remains unchanged over a period of time, and which makes the individual behave regularly in a variety of situations, is what is meant by an attitude.

Attitudes are learned in a variety of ways. They can result from single incidents, as when an

attitude toward snakes is acquired by an experience in childhood at the sudden movement of a snake. They can result from the individual’s experiences of success and pleasure, as when someone acquires a positive attitude toward doing crossword puzzles by being able to complete some of them. And frequently, they are learned by copying other people’s behavior, as when a child learns how to behave toward foreigners by observing the actions of his parents. Regardless of these differences, there is something in common in the learning and modification(修正)of attitudes.

69. According to the passage, attitudes .

A.come from different situations in one’s life

B.are largely affected by one’s behavior

C.remain unchanged in one’s daily life

D. could be chosen according to one’s will

70. The author uses the examples in Paragraph 3 to show .

A.people often make mistakes when they are not noticed

B.people with good attitudes may sometimes do bad deeds

C.particulars of a situation may influence an individual’s action

D. an individual may change his or her attitude fairly easily

71.Which of the following is TRUE about the learning of attitudes?

A.Attitudes are only learned through one’s success.

B.Attitudes learned in danger will last longer.

C.copying others’ behavior is not a good idea.

D. Attitudes can be learned from one’s parents.

72.What would be the best title for the passage?

A.Differences of Attitudes B.Nature of Attitude

C.Choices of Attitudes D. Modification of Attitude

D

Imagine you’re at a party full of strangers. You’re nervous. Who are these people? How do you start a conversation? Fortunately, you’ve got a thing that sends out energy at tiny chips in everyone’s name tag(标签).The chips send back name, job, hobbies, and the time available for meeting—whatever. Making new friends becomes simple.

This hasn’t quite happened in real life. But the world is already experiencing a revolution using RFID technology.

An RFID tag with a tiny chip can be fixed in a product, under your pet’s skin, even under your own skin. Passive RFID tags have no energy source —batteries because they do not need it. The energy comes from the reader, a scanning device(装备),that sends out energy(for example, radio waves)that starts up the tag immediately.

Such a tag carries information specific to that object, and the data can be updated. Already.

RFID technology is used for recognizing each car or truck on the road and it might appear in your passport. Doctors can put a tiny chip under the skin that will help locate and obtain a patient’s medical records. At a nightclub in Paris or in New York the same chip gets you into the VIP(very important person)section and pays for the bill with the wave of an arm.

Take a step back:10 or 12 years ago, you would have heard about the coming age of computing. One example always seemed to surface: Your refrigerator would know when you needed to buy more milk. The concept was that computer chips could be put everywhere and send information in a smart network that would make ordinary life simpler.

RFID tags are a small part of this phenomenon. “The world is going to be a loosely coupled set of individual small devices, connected wirelessly,”predicts Dr. J. Reich. Human rights supporters are nervous about the possibilities of such technology. It goes too far tracking school kids through RFID tags, they say. We imagine a world in which a beer company could find out not only when you bought a beer but also when you drank it. And how many beers. Accompanied by how many biscuits.

When Marconi invented radio, he thought it would be used for ship-to-shore communication, not for pop music. Who knows how RFID and related technologies will be used in the future? Here’s a wild guess: Not for buying milk.

73.The article is intended to .

A.warn people of the possible risks in adopting RFID technology

B.explain the benefits brought about by RFID technology

C.convince people of the uses of RFID technology

D. predict the applications of RFID technology

74. We know from the passage that with the help of RFID tags, people .

A.will have no trouble getting data about others

B.will have more energy for conversation

C.will have more time to make friends

D. won’t feel shy at parties any longer

75.Passive RFID tags chiefly consist of .

A.scanning devices B.radio waves

C.batteries D. chips

76.Why are some people worried about RFID technology?

A.Because children will be tracked by strangers.

B.Because market competition will become more fierce.

C.Because their private lives will be greatly affected

D. Because customers will be forced to buy more products.

How could we possibly think that keeping animals in cages in unnatural environments—

mostly for entertainment purposes—is fair and respectful?

Zoo officials say they are concerned about animals. However, most zoos remain “collection”of interesting “things”rather than protective habitats(栖息地).Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals bored, lonely, and far from their natural homes.

Zoos claim to educate people and save endangered species, but visitors leave zoos without having learned anything meaningful about the animals’ natural behavior, intelligence, or beauty. Zoos keep animals in small spaces of cages, and most signs only mention the species’ name, diet, and natural range. The animals’normal behavior is seldom noticed because zoos don’t usually take care of the animals’ natural needs.

The animals are kept together in small spaces, with no privacy and little opportunity for mental and physical exercise. This results in unusual and self-destructive behavior called zoochosis. A worldwide study of zoos found that zoochosis is common among animals kept in small spaces or cages. Another study showed that elephants spend 22 percent of their time making repeated head movements or biting cage bars, and bears spend 30 percent of their time walking back and forth, a sign of unhappiness and pain.

Furthermore, most animals in zoos are not endangered. Captive breeding(圈养繁殖)of endangered big cats, Asian elephants, and other species has not resulted in their being sent back to the wild. Zoos talk a lot about their captive breeding programs because they do not want people to worry about a species dying out. In fact, baby animals also attract a lot of paying customers. Haven’t we seen enough competitions to name baby animals?

Actually, we will save endangered species only if we save their habitats and put an end to the reasons people kill them .Instead of supporting zoos, we should support groups that work to protect animals’ natural habitats.

77.How would the author describe the animals’ life in zoos?

A.Dangerous. B.Unhappy C.Natural D.Simple

78.In the state of zoochosis, animals according to the passage.

A.remain in cages B.behave strangely

C.often attack other animals D. enjoy walking around

79. What does the author try to argue in the passage?

A.Zoos are not worth the public support

B.Zoos fail in their attempt to save animals.

C.Zoos should treat animals as human beings.

D. Zoos use animals as a means of entertainment.

80.The author tries to persuade readers to accept his argument mainly by .

A.pointing out the faults in what zoos do

B.giving examples of animals in the wild

C.questioning the way animals live

D. discussing the advantages of natural habitats
