Tattoos(纹身)and body piercings(穿洞)have moved up on the trend list in recent years. Around Western schools lots of teens are sporting new holes and flesh ink. Like all other subjects, we’ll surely be faced with such situation. To get a better view of what has happened in the West, let’s sit down and hear what they say.

Kerstin Otto from Washington:

The hotter it gets and the more layers of clothing disappear, the more tattoos and piercings appear on various places of the human body, I wouldn’t be caught dead with a snake tattooed on my ankle or with a piece of metal stuck in my belly button.

Erin from Indiana:

I think body piercing is cool. In most situations, you don’t really have to worry about it getting torn out. I go to Noblesville High School. I am a sophomore(that is the l0th grade). Body piercing can be cool, only if it is not taken to too much of an extent.

I would not want to get my nose pierced, just because I think I’ll look bad. But that is my personal opinion. I guess that type of thing is a cultural difference.

Tiara from Indiana:

I personally think body piercing is sickening. If there were supposed to be holes in your body, you would have been born with them.

I do, however, think that ear piercing, is not wrong. There is a difference between ear piercing and belly button piercing. Ear piercing 曲靖一中唯一指定授权专卖欢迎您的再次光临https://www.doczj.com/doc/0418708978.html, 4

is not nearly as dangerous. I would be sick if someone stuck a needle in my belly button.

Lee from Illinois:

Hi! I live in Illinois. I am 23. I have 12 tattoos and three piercings. I love my tattoos and consider myself an art collector. You would be surprised at who has given me the thumbs-up on my art work. People on the street stop me to look at that on my leg. Most of them don’t know what it is. They just think the work itself is great.

Subotai from California:

I’m not prohibitive of self-expression, but when I see high school students getting these piercings, I really wonder. In some cases, the drive is deeper and darker than mere fashion. A friend of mine tried piercing her own tongue with a safety pin. It got infected and she had a tongue the size of a cow’s.

Nagib from Washington:

I wanted an earring. My friends had them and it looked like a cool thing. I wanted to get a nose ring, but my mum wouldn’t let me. Now I’m glad I didn’t get it. I just wanted a little stud, but I wouldn’t have looked good with it.

Jackson from Ohio:

I don’t think it’s wrong, but when people do it all over the place like their face and everything —I think that’s ridiculous. People who get the big dragons that cover your whole body—I don’t think that’s necessary. When I see naked chicks on guys, I think. “You have no respect for women.”

Brittney from New York:

You don’t want to do stuff to your body. You don t need to do that because you were made perfect. You don’t need to add piercings. If it will make you feel beautiful and you really feel like you need to do it for yourself, then okay. If it really makes a big difference impacting your self-esteem and how you are towards others, then do it. But otherwise, don’t mess with what you got. Maybe you should try something more substantial(充实的)to find beauty in yourself.

56. Who is wholeheartedly lost in tattoos and piercing? _________

C. Nagib.

D. Lee.

New York State has passed the USA’s first state law banning motorists talking on hand-held cell phones. The ban will come into effect on November lst, although drivers caught using hand-held cell phones will be given only warnings during the first month.

We all know that everyone becomes a little more forgetful as they get older, but men’s minds decline more than women’s, according to the results of a worldwide survey.

General differences seem to be natural in male and female brains: Men are better at maintaining and dealing with mental images (useful in mathematical reasoning and spatial skills), while women tend to excel (擅长于) at recalling information from their brain’s files. Many studies have looked for a connection between sex and the amount of mental decline people experience as they age, but the results have been mixed.

Some studies found more age-related decline in men than in women, while others saw the opposite or even no relationship at all between sex and mental decline.

Those results could be improper because the studies involved older people, and women live longer than men: The men tested are the survivors, “so they’re the ones that may not have shown such cognitive(认知的) decline,” said study team leader Elizabeth of the University of Warwick in England.

Scientists surveyed completed four tasks that tested sex-related cognitive skills: matching an object to its rotated form, matching lines shown from the same angle, typing as many words in a particular category as possible in the given time, e.g. “object usually colored gray”, and recalling the location of objects in a line drawing. The first two were tasks at which men are usually good; the latter are typically dominated by women. Within each age group studied, men and women performed better in their separate categories on average. And though performance declined with age for both genders, women showed obviously less decline than men overall.

D

Most young people enjoy some form of physical activity. It may be walking, cycling, or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some form--football, basketball, hockey, golf or tennis. It may be mountaineering.

Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks in high mountains? This astonishment is caused, probably, by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure.

Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules, as others, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of different kind which it would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes

曲靖一中唯一指定授权专卖欢迎您的再次光临https://www.doczj.com/doc/0418708978.html, 8

mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods.

If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team game”. We should be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no “matches” between “teams” of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork.

The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities.

A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty. But it is not unusual for men of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they perhaps climb with more skill and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment.

67. What movements are popular among people in winter in the passage? ________

A. Skiing and skating.

B. Soccer and golf.

C. Cycling and hockey.

D. Mountaineering.

68. Mountaineering is a sport, not a game because ________.

A. it has man-made rules

B. it is too dangerous for climbers

C. it can’t bring people joy and leisure

D. it is free for climbers to use their own methods

69. A mountain climber must be strong both mentally and physically because _______.

A. there are no regular man-made rules for him to follow

B. there is no teamwork and he has to depend on himself

C. his component is not one or several people but the powerful nature

D. mountaineering requires the skills practiced year after year

70. We know from the passage that _______.

A. mountaineering has no appeal to people

第二卷

第四部分: 任务型阅读(每小题1分; 满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后图表中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。

注意:每个空格只填1个单词。

To cultivate one’s taste in English prose(散文), the most effective way is to read English books extensively. Yet one may be at a loss to choose the appropriate books, especially as a beginner. I would like to share some of my experience.

My first English novel was Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, recommended by many English teachers and professors as an ideal book for English learners. But my experience was somewhat disastrous. Stumbling along the lines, I had great difficulty in understanding the novel, let alone enjoying it. It’s not the vocabulary that troubled me, but rather the way Austen constructs sentences, and her way of thinking, which seemed too remote to me at that time. My fading enthusiasm was much recovered after reading Hemingway’s novel Farewell to Arms. No long and complicated sentences. And I particularly liked his concise and straightforward style. So my first suggestion is, as a beginner, you’d better choose contemporary novels instead of classical ones. You can easily engage yourself in reading, get fun out of it, and gradually build up confidence. I do not mean to exclude classical novels for ever. Actually, the second reading of Pride and Prejudice greatly pleased me (probably the result of my improved English comprehension). It is only that classical novels are less accessible to beginners due to their language styles and social background. I’d like to recommend three contemporary novelists to You — Ursula Le Guin, Ernest Hemingway, and Doris-Lessing.

However, reading novels is not the only way to improve your English. In fact, if you restrict yourself to novels, you will miss a lot of treasures. English essays can at once inform you, entertain you, and refine your taste in English. The best example is Bertrand Russell’s work. Its language is plain, yet you cannot help feeling the elegance and the peculiar sense of humor. His simple language enables his philosophy within the reach of ordinary people. The same is true of George Orwell’s work. Here comes my second suggestion — essays are necessary.

曲靖一中唯一指定授权专卖欢迎您的再次光临https://www.doczj.com/doc/0418708978.html, 10

My last advice is never follow others’ recommendations and opinions blindly, however, famous or influential the person might be. Some days ago, I listened to the audio-book of Somerset Maugham’s autobiography The Summing up. In a chapter he regards Edward Gibbon and Samuel Johnson’s style as pompous. Though I admire Maugham’s prose, I cannot agree with his view. Probably one can label Johnson’s work as pretentious, but definitely not Gibbon’s. In fact, his lucid style makes his works highly readable, and you can hardly believe they were written over 200 years ago. Therefore, we should be open to various ideas, but always think and determine for ourselves. As a saying goes, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. With that in mind, we are bound to find out our favorite writers through reading and develop our fine taste in English.

书面表达: One possible version

It is n common practice that teachers are used to handing out the exercise books without the answers. Recently a survey has been carried out among students on it.

The result of the survey shows that the majority of the students disagree to this kind of practice. They think if they have the answers, they can check their homework the moment they finish doing it. In this way, they can make sure they have right answers. If wrong, they can correct them right away. They think it is a good way to improve the ability of automatic learning.

On the other hand, about one third of the students are in favor of removing answers. They think it effectively prevents some lazy students copying the answers and it helps to develop self-confidence in study. Thus, they will think more for themselves.

In my opinion, I think it’s good for students to have the answers. Having the answers is an aid to them if they really want to improve their studies. Schools and teachers should educate students to form good attitudes towards study.

云南省曲靖市第一中学圆周运动单元复习练习(Word版 含答案)

一、第六章 圆周运动易错题培优(难) 1.如图所示,水平圆盘可绕竖直轴转动,圆盘上放有小物体A 、B 、C ,质量分别为m 、2m 、3m ,A 叠放在B 上,C 、B 离圆心O 距离分别为2r 、3r 。C 、B 之间用细线相连,圆盘静止时细线刚好伸直无张力。已知C 、B 与圆盘间动摩擦因数为μ,A 、B 间摩擦因数为3μ,设最大静摩擦力等于滑动摩擦力,重力加速度为g ,现让圆盘从静止缓慢加速,则( ) A .当23g r μω=时,A 、B 即将开始滑动 B .当2g r μω=32 mg μ C .当g r μω=C 受到圆盘的摩擦力为0 D .当25g r μω=C 将做离心运动 【答案】BC 【解析】 【详解】 A. 当A 开始滑动时有: 2033A f mg m r μω==?? 解得: 0g r μω= 当23g g r r μμω=

23Bm f m m g mg μμ=+=() 所以有: Bm F f >向 此时细线有张力,设细线的拉力为T , 对AB 有: 2333mg T m r μω+=?? 对C 有: 232C f T m r ω+=?? 解得 32mg T μ= ,32 C mg f μ= 选项B 正确; C. 当ω= 时, AB 需要的向心力为: 2339AB Bm F m r mg T f ωμ'??=+== 解得此时细线的拉力96Bm T mg f mg μμ'-== C 需要的向心力为: 2326C F m r mg ωμ??== C 受到细线的拉力恰好等于需要的向心力,所以圆盘对C 的摩擦力一定等于0,选项C 正确; D. 当ω= C 有: 212 325 C f T m r mg ωμ+=??= 剪断细线,则 12 35 C Cm f mg f mg μμ= <= 所以C 与转盘之间的静摩擦力大于需要的向心力,则C 仍然做匀速圆周运动。选项D 错误。 故选BC 。 2.如图所示,在匀速转动的水平盘上,沿半径方向放着用细线相连的物体A 和B ,A 和B 质量都为m .它们分居在圆心两侧,与圆心距离分别为R A =r ,R B =2r ,A 、B 与盘间的动摩擦因数μ相同.若最大静摩擦力等于滑动摩擦力,当圆盘转速加快到两物体刚好还未发生滑动时,下列说法正确的是( )
