魏晋时代，玄言诗以嵇康为代表，田园诗以陶渊明为代表，而山水诗则以谢灵运为代表，谢灵运是东晋大将谢玄之孙，与陶渊明同时代的人。当陶渊明与王朝诀别，归去作“老农”时，谢灵运却卷入了刘宋王朝之争。他在王朝失败了，便向山水倾吐郁闷，在山水中拾起在王朝里失落的抱负，不能立法治国，就用格律写诗，用格律的法度来看山水，用一种形式化的美的理念来经营山水。用治国的手段写诗，尤其用来写山水诗，就像给马套上笼头和鞍子一样，他尝试着给诗套上格律，格律好比王制，他不能治国，就治诗。
陶渊明的诗，汉字跟着思想感情走，有节奏，有韵律，形式上大体整齐，很自由，随着汉字运动的自然属性行进。谢灵运的诗，汉字首先要满足格律化的要求，让思想进入格律，使格律成为思维方式，不光为诗的形式立法，还为思想建立诗性的框架。也亏了这位“始作俑者”，居然发现汉字像中国人一样经得起敲打，很容易格律化。在王朝，他是失败者，在诗的王国里，他要成为统治者。将汉字赶进格律，列成仪仗队，向他行礼，形、音、义都要对仗，对得整整齐齐，如一刀切，这还不够，还有字要雕琢，要雕得玲珑剔透。他是怎样用格律来治诗呢？且看他《登池上楼》：“……徇禄反穷海，卧疴对空林。衾枕昧节候，褰开暂窥临。倾耳聆波澜，举目眺岖嵚（qīn形容山高）．初景革绪风，新阳改故阴。池塘生春草，园柳变鸣禽……”人是政治动物，政治一失意，生理上就会有反映，“徇禄反穷海，卧疴对空林”，他病了，卧在家中，“衾枕昧节候”，卧久生厌，转而思动，于是，“褰开暂窥临”。倾耳一听，绿水波澜好送音；登楼一望，青山迢迢来接迎。只是远眺一下，心胸便开了，连天气都变得好起来，“初景革绪风，新阳改故阴”，青春阳气上升，阴气渐已下沉，春天已来临！“池塘生春草，园柳变鸣禽”，写到这里，出了神来之笔，没有了写的痕迹，如果是陶渊明，不足为奇，可在谢诗里，诗眼融化到自然中去了。“池塘生春草”，连一点描写都没有，更不用说雕琢的痕迹了，那就是存在本身。如果还要说一下，也就只能这么说了，写是写不出来的。谢灵运说，此句从梦里中来。
他的诗眼，从远方的山和海收回来，回到眼前的池塘。山和海，都是远怀，对他而言，都可望而不可即，他喜欢自己能把握的存在，而池塘，就在脚边，属于他。海上生明月，一定很美，可那美对于他的当下来说，还是“无”，而“池塘生春草”就在身边，那是“有”，可以任他格律化，但此句自然而然，还来不及捉住它，就在梦里入诗了，梦是没法儿格律化的。那句“园柳变鸣禽”，稍稍迟了一步，就被他捉住雕琢了一把，意境虽好，但终非造化，寂寞了一冬天的孤寒柳，忽然听到鸟鸣了！这春之声叫他归隐，他进山了，不是去游山玩水，而是去山里定居，不是在方便处定居，而是在险要处定居，真不愧为将门子，以兵法安居，以格律写诗，确有乃祖遗风。千载以后的毛泽东喜读谢诗，评价很高，说唐代山水诗从谢发展而来。的确，不仅在形式上拧紧了格律的发条，内容上也真的紧张起来了。魏晋人，人与山川相映发，是玄言田园的自由化；这还不够，还要格律化，格律化是为诗的江山立法。（摘编自李冬君《当诗意栖居于政治》）

[美]贝尔?考夫曼黄昏的太阳暖洋洋的，树林外隐约传来城市的喧闹。她放下手中的书，摘下墨镜，惬意地吁了口气。莫顿正在看《时代》周刊，一只手搭在她肩上；他们三岁的儿子莱利在沙坑里玩。正是星期天下午五点半，藏在公园角落里的小操场清静极了，秋千和跷跷板一动不动，滑梯上也空空荡荡，只有莱利和一个年龄相仿的胖男孩蹲在沙坑里玩。多美好啊，她几乎微笑起来。她想，他们应该多出来晒晒太阳，莫顿肤色那么苍白，都是成天在大学里埋头工作造成的。她柔情地挽着他的手臂，看着莱利玩沙。

孩子们都愣住了，瞪着眼，张大嘴，连手里的铲子掉了都不知道。莫顿面部肌肉抽搐着。“好，只需一分钟，你必须明白……”他平静地说。
“喂，闭嘴！”那人说。
她的心怦怦直跳，她知道丈夫根本不是“大块头”的对手，心中充满了对丈夫的怜惜和对那男人的怒气。她丈夫平时不生气，难得发火，这样的情景对他而言太陌生太令人难堪了。
