第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

A

Below are some of the best German kids games.

Hit the Pot

This traditional game goes by the name Topfschlogen. In this, a small pot containing chocolates, or any other item is placed on the floor where the party is being held. A kid is chosen (via chits) and is blindfolded. He is then handed a stick and placed in the center of the room. The

aim of the game is to move on the floor, and using the stick, find and hit the pot. Once the kid has found the pot, he can take the contents of the pot as his own. The game can be continued to be played by re-filling the pot and having others have a go at it.

The Number Game

In German it?s called the “Ein, Zwei, Drei…Halt”(1, 2, 3… Halt!) game. In this, the person who is tagged “it” stands at a distance backing the rest of the group. Then he/she says “Ein, Zwei, Drei…” in which time the kids have to run towards him. When he says “Halt”, he turns around to face the kids. When he turns, all the kids have to stop and adopt the statue mode---they

aren?t to move at all. If “it” finds any of them moving, they?re out. The game continues till either all have been dismissed or one of the kids crosses the finish line.

Hiding Sardines

This is a popular game in Germany and goes by the name “Sardinen”. In this game, a kid is chosen to hide while the others have to find him. They have to count, say up to 30 (or any other number) in which time the kid hides in a place. Once the counting stops, the kids have to find him. When anyone finds the child, they have to hide with him. One by one the kids join the original kid in the hiding place. This continues till the last one finds the hiding place. It?s a whole lot of fun if it is combined with dim lights so that the hide and seek game becomes even more challenging. A simpler version of the sardine game is the Verstecken game, which means “hide and seek”.

The Cat and Mouse

In Germany, this game is popular by the name “Katz and Mous”. This game is very popular among the younger kids because it is an energy-packed activity with lots of running around. In this game, one of the players is the cat while the other the mouse, and the rest of the kids form a circle. The aim of the game is that the cat has to catch the mouse. The mouse can run anywhere---into and out of the circle. There is added fun introduced because the circle sometimes allows the mouse to enter and at other times blocks him. When the mouse is caught, there are chits drawn to decide who the next cat and mouse will be.

Packing a suitcase

Known as Koffer packen in German, this game is a handy little one for when the kids are done with the fun and are just sitting about. Get the kids to sit in a circle. The first kid starts off by saying “I packed a suitcase and I put a muffler in it”. The next kid continues with “I packed a suitcase and I put a muffler and a shirt in it”. The chain continues with each kid repeating the previous items on the list and adding another of his own. Those who mess the order or leave out the previous items are disqualified and the chain continues till there is one kid remaining, he is declared the winner.

56. Which two games have something to do with number-counting?

A. Sardinen and Katz and Mous

B. Ein, Zwei, Drei…Halt! and Sardinen

C. Topfschlogen and Ein, Zwei, Drei…Halt!

D. Katz and Mous and Koffer packen

The International Painting Contest on Google? s homepage in 2015 ma y look pretty strange, but it spotlightings a very serious issue: clean water, which is unusual for an 11-year-old from Long Island.

Audrey Zhang, a fifth-grader from Levittown, N. Y, is the winner of this year?s Doodle 4 Google contest, rising to the top of some 100,000 entrie s on the theme of “draw one thing to make the world a better place”.

Her piece, titled “Back to Mother Nature”, describes a detailed water-cleaning machine. Zhang worked with a team of artists at Google to animate(使……生动)her drawing.

“To make the world a be tter place, I came up with a transformative water purifier, a machine used to remove dirty or harmful substances,” Google quoted Zhang as saying, “It takes in dirty and polluted water from rivers, lakes and even oceans, then massively transforms the water into clean, safe and pure water. When humans and animals drink this water, they will live a healthier life.”

She created a whole world around the device—one populated by humans, a whale in a top hat and dragons.

Zhang?s piece is “so vivid and so rich and s o full and so complete”, Google Doodle team leader Ryan Germick told the Washington Post, “Every leaf seemed to have life in it.”

Along with having her artwork featured on Google? s homepage, Zhang wins a $30,000 college scholarship. In addition, her school will receive a $50,000 , Google for Education technology grant, and the company is donating $20, 000 in her name to a charity devoted to bringing clean water to schools in Bangladesh.

On Sunday, the night before her work was revealed on the Internet, Zhang told Newsday she was excited by the big win, but said she wouldn?t be awake when her art first went online at midnight.

“I have school tomorrow, so I can? t stay up late,” she told the paper.

Ask anybody out there, what is the most important thing in his life---Fame, Fortune and Money, and there is a chance that he is going to say, money, because with that, fame and fortune comes quite easily. On the other hand, if you add “family” to these three choices given above, there is a chance that 99% of the people are going to put their family first, especially if they happen to be ladies!

The main reason is because nature has created a woman to be the cherisher and the nurturer (哺育者) of the family, while the man is the hunter and protector of his little family. That is the natural rule which has come down through thousands of years. Even if a person happens to be a comparatively worldly-wise person and has no idea of taking on the responsibility of a family, he has a picture of a tight little loving unit in his subconscious (潜意识).

They tell a story about a successful millionaire businessman who died and the whole city came to pay its respects. One of his business competitors, met t he son and said, “We are really going to miss your father. You see, I knew your father well.” And the son replied, “You happen to be really lucky there, because I never did.” So, you might be an extremely successful person in your own right upon Wall Street, but if your little child fails to come running out to welcome his daddy at the end of the day to be swung up in his father?s arms and held there lovingly and protectively, you come in the “nothing” category in the business of life.

Many people are under the impression that taking on the responsibility of the family is quite tiresome, but they do not know what it takes to be a parent. It is very easy to be a biological father or a biological mother, but the real mother and the real father is that person who stays awake all night when the baby is teething, teaches him right from wrong, is there to hold him when he takes his first steps, and in every way shows that he is there to cherish (珍惜) and protect the little one from harm.

There was a man who did not believe in family, because of an unhappy childhood. But he found a faithful woman to love him unconditionally. The moment he picked up his little baby, he said, “Well son, welcome to the world! I am here to teach you what your mama has taught me, and we shall both protect you, when you need our help. I will teach you to be a good, just and fair man.”

C. achieved great success in his life

A. What More Could a Family Be About

B. How Should We Parent a Child

D. What Contributes to One?s Success

D

The term “Industry 4.0” refers to the fourth industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution was the production of goods with machines like steam engines, which was followed by the second industrial revolution that introduced mass production with the help of electric power, followed by the digital revolution —the use of electronics and IT in production.

Industry 4.0 is a high-tech project, which promotes the computerization of manufacturing (制造业). The basic principle of Industry 4.0 is that by connecting machines, work pieces and systems, we are creating intelligent networks along the entire value chain that can control each other automatically. The goal is the Smart Factory, which adapts well and uses resources efficiently as well as linking customers and business partners with great intelligence. Technological bases are the Internet systems and advanced factories. Experts believe that Industry 4.0 could be a reality in about 10 to 20 years.

So, what effects does this change have on the classic manufacturing? According to an expert, “it is highly likely that the world of production will become more and more networked until everything is connected with everything else.” Networks and processes have so far been limited to one factory. But in the time of Industry 4.0, the boundaries (界限) of individual factories will most likely no longer exist. Instead, they will be lifted in order to inter-connect multiple factories or even geographical regions.

How is an Industry 4.0 factory different from a today?s factory? In current industry environment, providing high-end quality service or product with the least cost is the key to success. Factories are trying to increase their profit as much as possible. In the time of Industry 4.0, various data sources are available to provide worthwhile information about different aspects of the factory. Using data for understanding the current condition and checking faults and failures is a natural thing. The sharing of information around the clock and around the globe will enable these connected systems to manage themselves independently, work more efficiently and identify any errors quickly.

The good news is that Europe is much better prepared for the Industry 4.0 revolution than one might think. Europe will position itself as a pioneer in the fourth revolution. Industry 4.0 is a project in the high-tech strategy of the German government. Meanwhile, in the U.S., some companies are also working hard on it. But the success of industry depends on whether business and politics can work together. It?s not only politics that needs to help open the door for Industry 4.0. Every company is advised to seize the new digital opportunities.

67. What marks the coming of Industry 4.0?

A. Steam engines.

B. Mass production.

C. Use of electronics.

D. Intelligent networks.

68. Industry 4.0 will probably result in ________ in the world of manufacturing.

A. production limited to an individual factory

B. everything connected with everything else

C. networks and processes no longer existing

D. classic factories stopping their competition

69. According to the last paragraph, who is the most active in pushing Industry 4.0?

A. The European companies.

B. The American government.

C. The American companies.

D. The German government.

70. The writer?s attitude toward Industry 4.0 can best be described as ________.

A. supportive

B. negative

C. doubtful

D. cautious

第II卷非选择题(共4大题;满分35分)

第四部分:任务型阅读(共10 小题;每小题1 分, 满分10 分)

注意:每空只填一个单词。

“I invented a new word. How do I get it into the dictionary?”

This is, by far, the question lexicographers(词典编纂者)hear the most. People invent new words all the time, but which ones actually make it into the dictionary? When lexicographers decide what words to add to dictionaries, they try to imagine what words users actually want to look up. There are important factors to keep in mind here.

Is the word in widespread usage?

The usage question is an important one that gets at the heart of how dictionaries are written. When modern lexicographers try to add words to dictionaries, they tend to approach their work from the angle of descriptivism— that is, they observe how the language is being u sed, see if it?s a common phenomenon, and then write definitions based on their research.

Does the word have staying power?

Widespread usage does not, however, guarantee a word a shiny new definition in a dictionary. Is the word going to stay around for a while, or is it just a passing fad? Is it likely to be in use in 5, 10, 20, or even 100 years? These are important questions to ask because there are far more updates and new words to be added to dictionaries than lexicographers have time to write.

Are you famous? Do you have influence?

If you?re famous, that could definitely up your chances of getting a word into a dictionary. Are you a writer? That could help. Take, for example, William Shakespeare, who invented (or at least popularized) hundreds of words and phrases commonly used today. Politicians also make their contributions. Abraham Lincoln invented the word neologize, and Winston Churchill has the first citation(引语)in the OED for many words, including fluffily and fly-in.So if you?re a person with influence and a following, the words you use can spread into common usage, which, as discussed above, is very important when it comes to gaining dictionary-entry.

Does the word fill a gap in the language?

If you?re not famous, there are other ways. Maybe you?re a scientist introducing new concepts to the public. Take, for example, the Higgs Boson particle(粒子), named after physicist Peter W. Higgs. But you don?t have to b e a scientist to get your word a dictionary entry. Just look at Dominique Ansel, the pastry chef (糕点师) who captured the stomachs of New Yorkers with his dessert, the cronat. His invention even inspired copycats in the form of doissants and daffins.

Apart from these, it does sometimes help if the word is fun to say. The term blog is relatively new, which arose in 1999 when Peter Merholz made a light-hearted comment on the sidebar of his “weblog” telling his readers “I?ve decided to pronounce the word …weblog? as wee?-blog. Or …blog? for short.” And there?s also Dr. Seuss, who invented the term nerd.

So, why do some words make it into dictionaries while others don?t? With the knowledge discussed above in hand, the answer is more than obvious. Go forth! Use language creatively! Lexicographers are listening!

Chinese city bans Christmas celebrations in schools

In recent decades, celebrating Christmas has become trendy among young Chinese, who see the Christian festival as a merry time to shop, party and dine with their friends and significant others. Meanwhile, supporters of traditional Chinese culture have warned against cultural invasion since young people are more willing to celebrate Western festivals than Chinese traditional ones.

Therefore, Schools of Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province banned Christmas celebrations this year, which is meant to guide schools in stressing the importance of China's traditional festivals.

"No middle school, primary school or kindergarten may hold any Christmas-themed activity or celebration," according to the notice issued by the city's educational authority, adding that the rule should be enforced strictly.

The purpose of the Christmas ban is not to abandon all Western festivals, but to change the schools' obsession(热衷于) with Western festivals at the expense of Chinese ones, said Zheng Shangzhong of the city's educational bureau. “Schools have more of a responsibility to tell children the meaning of traditional festivals such as the Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Lunar New Year,” he said. He also worried that Chinese traditional festivals and culture were fading away as more Chinese accept and worship Western traditions.
