Some of the dramas are being repeated, but audiences continue to watch them. Why are the South Korean TV series loved by so many Chinese people? Goal chances came and goal chances went. But two of the world’s highest-ranked teams—with some of football’s highest-paid players—couldn’t get the ball into the net. And they were playing against sides that only just made it to the World Cup.

With two defeats, one draw(平局)and no goals, France collected its newest title since rising to the top of the game four years ago: the worst defending champion in World Cup history.

“I’m very disappointed, it’s the end of a beautiful story,” said a French striker David Trezeguet. “The story began in 1998 and ended today against Denmark.”

If you were to walk up to Arthur Bonner and say, “Hey, Butterfly Man,” his face would break into a smile. The title suits him. And he loves it.

Arthur Bonner works with the Palos Verdes blue butterfly, once thought to have died out. Today the butterfly is coming back — thanks to him. But years ago if you’d told him this was what he’d be doing someday, he would have laughed, “You’re crazy.” As a boy, he used to be “a little tough guy on the streets”. At age thirteen, he was caught by police stealing. At eighteen, he landed in prison for shooting a man.

“I knew it had hurt my mom,” Bonner said after he got out of prison. “So I told myself I would not put my mom through that pain again.”

One day he met Professor Mattoni, who was working to rebuild the habitat for an endangered butterfly called El Segundo blue.

“I saw the sign ‘Butterfly Habitat’ and asked, ‘How can you have a habitat when the butterflies can just fly away?’” Bonner recalls. “Dr. Mattoni laughed and handed me a magnifying glass (放大镜), ‘Look at the leaves.’ I could see all

these caterpillars(蝴蝶的幼虫) on the plant. Dr Mattoni explained, ‘Without the plant, there are no butterflies.’”

Weeks later, Bonner received a call from Dr. Mattoni, who told him there was a butterfly which needed help. That was how he met the Palos Verdes blue. Since then he’s been working for four years to help bring the butterfly back. He grows astragals, the only plant the butterfly eats. He collects butterflies and brings them into a lab to lay eggs. Then he puts new butterflies into the habitat.

The butterfly’s population, once almost zero, is now up to 900. For their work, Bonner and Dr. Mattoni received lots of awards. But for Bonner, he earned something more: he turned his life around.

For six years now Bonner has kept his promise to stay out of prison. While he’s bringing back the Palos Verdes blue, the butterfly has helped bring him back, too.

初中英语校本课程 后西中学孙明霞 改革传统教学模式,为学生营造一个良好的英语学习氛围,培养学生敢于、善于开口说英语的习惯,在交往实践中激发学生学习英语的兴趣,“学(英语)以致用”是我校英语校本课程开发和建设的目标。在课程的研究与实践中我们不断地探索并逐步积累教学经验,下面是我教授的英语课的教学设计和自己的思考,渴望得到老师们有关课堂教学设计的指导,同时希望多些这方面的探讨。 一、课例设计 (课前背景音乐:Jingle Bell. 这是一首著名的英语节日歌曲,课前反复播放让学生熟悉曲调,用其明快的节奏营造气氛。) 1、竞赛小组划分:为形成竞争机制,易于进行有效评价,把学生分成四大组。学生每参与一次课堂活动,可为小组赢得1分,得分最多的小组,将有权选代表到台前装饰一个有趣的笑脸(教师在提出要求前在黑板上画出一个不完整的简笔画“脸”,并且列出ABCD四组记分栏)。 2、才艺展示(Talent Show):个人或小组集体演唱学生们喜闻乐见的英文歌曲。 3、猜词游戏(Guessing Words) ①、教师利用多媒体展示有关动物,职业,生活用品,食物等词汇,小组内复习巩固已学单词,交流新单词。 ②、每组选派两名同学,一位同学用英文描述或动作示意看到的单词,另一位同学说出单词。以规定时间内猜出单词的数量记分。 4、绕口令比赛(Tongue Twister) ①、教师出示三组绕口令,讲解读音技巧,组内练习。 ②、击鼓传花,学生抽选一组绕口令朗读,朗读准确可记分。 ③、计时朗读擂台赛,依据时间和朗读的准确度记分。

5、自制聚会食物(Making food for class party) ①、教师展示奶昔、沙拉、三明治等食物图片,出示相关语言信息。 ②、小组选择要制作的食物,说出制作原料,讨论制作方法。 ③、制作食物,制作完成后组员介绍制作过程。 ④、小组间分享食物,播放Jingle bell, 教师和学生们一齐跳舞。 二、课例反思 1、教学设计反思 ①、整个教学过程通过各种各样的Tasks来实现,活动的设计以学生为主体,以活动为中心学生,以变换多样的竞赛形式吸引学生注意力,使他们能够十分投入地参加各种活动,在用中学,在学中用(Learning by using, learning for using)。 ②、本节课将在课堂活动中把学生分成四人小组的学习小组,让他们围绕着课堂任务分工合作,在活动中相互探讨、相互交流、相互合作,从而获得知识、技能和情感体验,发展他们的能力。创建开放式,探究式的课堂。 ③、歌曲欣赏、才艺展示以学生喜闻乐见的形式导入新课,为学生创造轻松愉快的学习气氛。 ④、猜词游戏通过多媒体展示、小组交流、动作示意、语言解释,全感官的参与使记忆更加顺畅。这样的活动能使学生在轻松活泼的气氛中学习和巩固知识。 ⑤、生活就是知识,对于他们熟悉的话题食物制作,学生信心倍增,任务前活动用于扫除学生的语言障碍,在教学上以激发学生的学习兴趣,通过不同的活动让学生感知、操练语言。 2、教后反思 ①、学生对才艺展示很感兴趣,但用时较多“包袱”是否过“大”? ②、食物制作、猜词活动中大多数目标语言学生已经学过,应增加知识量。活动内容形式短小,随着学生能力的提高应尝试辩论,课本剧表演等活动,提高学生的语言运用能力。 ③、活动衔接不是很流畅,要注意自然过渡。 ④、借助多媒体上课,能实现“空手”上课所不能实现的视听美感,能多维加大课的容量,但

看图说话 ——语言知识向能力转化的有效途径 看图说话是语言课堂中常用的一种活动形式。它形式简单易操作,更是一种将知识转化为能力的有效途径。 一、看图说话的作用和功能 1.看图说话可以培养学生用英语进行思维的能力 语言能力和思维能力相互作用、相辅相成。学生语言能力的发展是其思维能力发展的重要前提,而思维能力的发展又可以促进言语的表达。学生要开口说,首先要考虑说什么,怎么说。 看图说话的过程实际上也是一个思维的过程,学生要将自己听到的、看到或读到的语言信息输入大脑,经过认知、对比、分析、理解、记忆、推理、归纳等一系列的思维活动,对语言进行加工,然后用英语表达出来。这一过程实际上是知识与能力的相互转化,是新旧知识的相互融和,是对语言知识的应用。 2.看图说话可以提高学生的英语口语能力 语言是交际的工具。因此,在课堂教学中多给学生提供进行创造性语言活动的机会,有助于提高学生口语能力。学生在看图说话过程中将自己看到、听到和读到的新知识、新内容、新结构经过思维加工,用自己的语言口头表达出来,进行口语实践,掌握了新知识的同时也提高了口语表达能力。 3.看图说话可以拓展学生创新思维的能力 儿童是培养创新思维的最佳时期。在看图说话训练中,可以让学生结合自己所学知识展开联想,对课本内容进行再造加工。学生可以充分发挥想象,深入角色,用英语表达自己的想法。 二、看图说话的操作方式及运用 1.创设情景,进行表演性看图说话

小学生注意力不稳定,因此如果一堂课围绕几幅呆板的图进行讨论,学生很快就会失去兴趣。 此时教师再创设一个与图片类似的情景,配上音乐和道具,学生又可以活跃起来。比如教学人教版小学课本第二册Lesson 23时,笔者先呈现一幅动物园的图让学生描述,然后笔者在教室的前、后、左、右四面墙上都贴上动物的图片让学生边看图边进行对话。学生很自然地运用到了“Hi. Let’s go to the zoo. What’s this / that? Can you spell it, please? Can you see a tigerover there? Let’s go and see? Good bye!”等语言。学生在自然的语言环境中得到更多的锻炼,将所学知识直接运用于交际活动中,促进语言知识的迅速转化。 2.教师设疑让学生进行复述式看图说话 看图说话时,教师可以设计一些疑点启发学生思维。例如:教学人教版初中英语第一册Lesson63时,可以这样处理: T: Who’s that man behind his mother? S: He’s Jim’s uncle (Jim’s mother’s brother)(学生根据问题顺藤摸瓜,主动参与,还未进行到“操练”那一步,就能自如流畅地用英语复述课文了。) 然后教师继续设疑:Can you talk about the picture of your family?(学生获得更多的空间进行自主交流。) 教师用自己的一勺水,引出了学生的一桶水,以至无穷之水。 3.发挥学生的想象,进行拓展性看图说话 在看图说话时,教师可以不规定形式,让学生自由发挥。例如:教学JEFC 第一册Lesson 74时,教师可以只提供一个开头:----What can I do for you? ----I’d like some cakes.学生已经有了一定的语言基础,因此可以两人一组,充分发挥想象力把对话拓展开来。这种练习把学生从书本上引导到生活中来,实现了从知识向技能的转化。 4.通过猜谜进行创造性看图说话

初中英语教学方法与技巧 根据《新课标英语》初中教材,遵循外语教育理论、学习理论、心理学理论等,结合我区中学英语教师丰富的实践经验,简要介绍一些教学方法与技巧供大家在教学中参考。 一、任务型教学——基本教学方法 国家《英语课程标准》明确提出“本课程倡导任务型的教学模式”,要求“教师应该避免单纯传授语言知识的教学方法,尽量采用‘任务型’的教学途径”(教育部,2001),因为任务型教学被认为是在培养学生运用能力方面“现有的最有效的方法(the most effective means currently available, P. Skehan, 1998)”。 任务型教学(task-based approach)是20世纪80年代以来西方英语教育最新发展成果,是“交际法”(communicative approaches)的最新发展。 对于任务有着不同层面的定义,总的来说,任务是一种教学活动,“是一件以意义为中心的活动,使学习者使用目的语参与到理解、处理、输出和/或互动之中。”(D. Nunan, 1989) 依据对D. Nunan, J. Yalden, P. Shekan等人的著作和《英语课程标准》等文献的阅读分析,任务型教学具有以下基本特征: 1.任务型教学是交际法(Communicative Approaches)的一种新的形态,是交际法的发展,而不是交际法的替代物。(J. Yalden) 2.任务型教学强调教学过程,力图让学生通过完成真实生活任务而参与学习过程,而让学生形成运用英语的能力,因此,任务型教学克服了以功能为基础的交际教学法不重视过程的不足。(D. Nunan, P. Skehan) 3.任务型教学仍然强调培养学生运用英语进行交际的能力,但从更广泛地层面强调培养学生综合语言运用能力。(P. Skehan) 4.任务型教学强调以真实生活任务为教学中心活动,修正了以功能为基础的教学的活动中存在的真实性不足的问题。(D. Nunan) 5.任务型教学要求教学活动要有利于学生学习语言知识、发展语言技能,从而提高实际语言运用能力,也就是说,任务型教学并不反对语言知识教学,而是倡导以语言运用能力为目的的语言知识教学。因此,任务既有真实生活任务,也有学习性任务。(D. Nunan, J.
