What to do if a fire starts?

Some people think that computers are brighter than humans because, for example, a computer can solve many maths problems millions of times .faster. But you can recognize your friend's face among photos of hundreds of children in your school, and no computer can do that. And you know when a joke is funny, and no computers know that. A computer does some things very well, but other things a computer cannot do at all.

It doesn't make sense to say that a computer is brighter or more stupid than a person. A computer just does things differently. In a way, a computer only knows two things: yes and no. An electric circuit(电路)is either open or closed; yes or no. All the information that is fed into a computer is translated into two signs: 0 or 1. Every number and every letter is coded in zeros and ones. To the computer, 0 means off, 1 means on. All decisions are either 0 or 1, yes or no-never maybe.

A great many yes/no or off/on circuits can fit into a small space. In a tiny space of the size of your fingernail, a computer does its work. Each of these circuits opens and closes thousands of times a second. But your brain has many more nerve(神经)cells than a computer has circuits. A human brain has about 100, 000 million nerve cells!
