American people like to say “ Thank you” when help them or say something kind to them. People of many other countries do so, too. It is a very good habit.

You should say “ Thank you” when someone passes you the salt on the table, when someone walking ahead of you keeps the doors open for you, when someone says you have done your work well, or you have bought a nice thing, or your city is very beautiful.

“ Thank you” is used not only between friends , but also between parents and children, brothers and sisters , husbands and wives.

“Excuse me” is another short sentence they use. When you hear someone say so behind

you , you know that someone wants to walk past you without touching you.

It’s not good to break in on others while they are talking. If you want to speak to one of them, say “Excuse me” first, and then begin talking. You should also do so when you

want to cough or make any unpleasant noise before others .

Let’s all learn to say “ Thank you” and “Excuse me”.

Mrs Turner was tired after her day’s shopping in London, so she went into a tea

house for a cup of tea before catching the train home. While she was drinking tea,

she suddenly remembered that she had to buy some medicine for her husband.

“ Is there a chemist’s near here?” she asked the waiter.

“ Yes, madam,” the waiter said, “ It’s about three minutes’ walk away. Turn right

when you go out of the tea house , then take the second turning on the left. You’ll

find a big chemist’s about a hundred metres up the road on the right-hand side.”

Mrs Turner found the chemist’s shop easily, she bought the medicine and started

to make the way back to the tea house. But after she had walked for about ten minutes

and there was no sign of the tea house, she knew she had made a mistake.

“ Oh, I am stupid!” said Mrs Turner. “I’ve left all my shopping in the tea house and

now I’m lost.”

She didn’t know where to go when a policeman came up. She told him what had happened.

“ Well, first of all,” said the policeman. “ We had better go back as far as the chemist’s”

“Now,”said the policeman, when they got to the chemist’s , “go that way to the main road and you’ll find the tea house on the opposite side of the road.”

Mrs Turner thanked the policeman for his help.

“ I can’t understand how I went wrong.” She said.

The policeman smiled . “ It’s quite easy,” he said, “ to be lost in a big city like London.”

For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre. Passage One Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage. In 1985 when a Japan Air Lines (JAL) jet crashed, its president, Yasumoto Takagi, called each victim’s family to apologize, and then promptly resigned. And in 1987, when a subsidiary of Toshiba sole sensitive military technology to the former Soviet Union, the chairman of Toshiba gave up his post. These executive actions, which Toshiba calls “the highest form of apology,”may seem bizarre to US managers. No one at Boeing resigned after the JAL crash, which may have been caused by a faulty Boeing repair. The difference between the two business cultures centers around different definitions of delegation. While US executives give both responsibility and authority to their employees, Japanese executives delegate only authority—the responsibility is still theirs. Although the subsidiary that sold the sensitive technology to the Soviets had its own management, the Toshiba top executives said they “must take personal responsibility for not creating an atmosphere throughout the Toshiba group that would make such activity unthinkable, even in an independently run subsidiary.” Such acceptance of community responsibility is not unique to businesses in Japan. School principals in Japan have resigned when their students committed major crimes after school hours. Even if they do not quit, Japanese executives will often accept primary responsibility in other ways, such as taking the first pay cut when a company gets into financial trouble. Such personal sacrifices, even if they are largely symbolic, help to create the sense of community and employee loyalty that is crucial to the Japanese way of doing business. Harvard Business School professor George Lodge calls the ritual acceptance of blame “almost a feudal (封建的) way of purging (清除) the community of dishonor,”and to some in the United States, such resignations look cowardly. However, in an era in which both business and governmental leaders seem particularly good at evading responsibility, many US managers would probably welcome an infusion (灌输) of the Japanese sense of responsibility, If, for instance,

Part Ⅲ Reading Comprehension (40 minutes) For investors who desire low risk and guaranteed income, US government bonds are a secure investment because these bonds have the financial backing and full faith and credit of the federal government. Municipal bonds, also secure, are offered by local governments and often have___ 36___such as tax-free interest. Some may even be___37___. Corporate bonds are a bit more risky. Two questions often___38___first-time corporate bond investors. The first is “If I purchase a corporate bond, do I have to hold it until the maturity date?” The answer is no. Bonds are bought and sold daily on___39___securities exchanges. However, if you decide to sell your bond before its maturity date, you’re not guaranteed to get the face value of the bond. For example, if your bond does not have___40___ that make it attractive to other investors, you may be forced to sell your bond at a___ 41___, i.e., a price less than the bond's face value. But if your bond is highly valued by other investors, you may be able to sell it at a premium, i. e ., a price above its face value. Bond prices generally___42___inversely (相反地) with current market interest rates. As interest rates go up, bond prices fall, and vice versa Thus, like all investments, bonds have a degree of risk. The second question is “ How can I___43___the investment risk of a particular bond issue?” Standard & Poor's and Moody’s Investors Service rate the level of risk of many corporate and government bonds. And___44___, the higher the market risk of a bond, the higher the interest rate. Investors will invest in a bond considered risky only if the 45 return is high enough.

+ n。", 举例说明:Education soon became a _____. As the trade winds lessen in _____, the ocean temperatures rise causing the Peru current flowing in from the east to warm up by as much as 5 degrees. Husbands and children now do some of these jobs, a ____ that has changed the target market for many products. 第一种方法,用句子结构来判断,前面一句话,husbands and children now do some of these jobs,这是一个完整的句子,主语husbands and children,谓语动词do,宾语some of these jobs;后面的that 引导的是一个同位语从句,它所修饰的中心词就是a后面需要填的词,而定语从句的中心词是名词,所以横线处应填一个名词。 He ____ from his teachers, came home in tears and thought about dropping out.

In order to acquire knowledge, we have to study hard. However, it can not be ignored that effective learning needs both motivation and scientific methods. It’s not difficult for us to come up with se veral possible reasons accounting for this perspective. In the first place, learning is a kind of serious and hard work. In details, studying for a long time is exhausting and it is very likely to decrease study efficiency, which is critical to academic performance. From what has been mentioned above, we can easily draw a conclusion that the importance of motivation and methods in learning is self-evident. And it is necessary for us to develop good learning methods.
