二、课程地位
本课程是为英语专业英语语言文化方向三年级本科生第二学期开设的选修课，其前修课程为《欧洲文化入门》、《英国文学B》与《美国文学B》。该课程采用的是课堂教学，在讲授过程中，重点放在介绍和讲解上，强调学生对戏剧内容与艺术手法的理解和掌握。除讲授外，还运用其它有益的教学形式，比如说，提出带有启发性的问题，让学生课后查阅资料，课堂上讨论，或是让学生欣赏名剧的演出，或是让学生真正参与到戏剧的表演中来，从文本理解发展到对戏剧这门综合艺术的全面了解。

四、课程目的与任务
本课程拟对西方戏剧概况进行简要介绍，并遴选英美戏剧史上的重要代表作家和作品，对其戏剧特色、戏剧理论进行分析。课程重视戏剧作为综合艺术的特点，在教学中将理论与实践相结合，做到寓教于乐。在课内，不仅有作家作品的介绍、经典戏剧作品片段的解读，课堂讨论，还有戏剧影象作品的欣赏。在课外，学生需要查阅相关资料，甚至进行戏剧片段的排演，以一种愉悦的方式学习、了解和体验英语戏剧。该课程目的在于通过戏剧选文的学习，提高学生对英语戏剧语言的理解与欣赏，进一步养成对英语的敏感性，培养人文素质和文学涵养。
五、课程基本要求
这门课程要求学生能较清晰地掌握戏剧的起源、形成与发展的脉络，同时还要了解戏剧与文化之间的联系，并掌握通过资料收集，能借助工具书作初步的戏剧批评的能力。
在课程的教学过程中，教师也可适当向学生推荐一些由英美戏剧改编拍摄的优秀影视作品，使学生对英语戏剧艺术形式、英美国家社会和文化有更加直观的了解。

Aims:Understand the cultural background of European Renaissance, and the theme, language and the significance of Shakespeare’s plays.
