Graduate AdmissionsThe majority of graduate programmes in NUS admit students twice a year, in August and January. The corresponding applications deadlines are the preceding 15 November and 15 May respectively. However, some programmes follow different timelines, and prospective students are advised to check with the graduate studies website of the Faculty offering the programme.Decisions on admission are made by the School or Faculty after careful evaluation of all applications. Evaluation is carried out based on a combination of factors such as academic degree and record, the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, standardized test scores and relevant work experience. Other considerations may include the potential for future contributions to the academic or professional fields, research interest of the professors involved in each degree programme and the relevance of the academic preparation for the chosen course of study. The minimum set of admission requirements are given below. Individual programmes may have their own additional requirements. Applicants should refer to the respective Faculty's graduate studies website. It should be noted that satisfying minimal standards is not a guarantee of admission, since the number of qualified applicants far exceeds the number of places available. As a result, many well-qualified applicants cannot be accommodated.Minimum Requirements for Research-based ProgrammesCandidates must demonstrate readiness for graduate study through some specific standard of achievement in a common entry examination (e.g., the subject GRE, GMAT), and/or an admissions test or an interview.Admission to a research Master’s programme normally requires a good Honours degree or equivalent. Departments may also admit students wi th a good Bachelor’s degree with relevant research or working experience on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval by the Board of Graduate Studies (BGS).Admission into a Ph.D. programme requires a good Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or at least a Second Class Upper Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.Credit transfer and exemption for the coursework component of the graduate research programme may be granted for NUS modules taken and passed prior to admission to the programme or for modules completed at another tertiary institution recognised by the University. Only modules relevant to the degree programme to which the candidate seeks admission, with comparable content and level of sophistication, and read less than 5 years before the date of admission may be considered for credit transfer / exemption. There is no limit to the transfer of credit for relevant modules that have not been used towards another degree at NUS or elsewhere. For relevant modules that have been credited towards another degree elsewhere, up to 50% of the MCs required in the coursework component of the NUS graduate research programme into which the candidate seeks admission may be exempted. For relevant NUS modules that have been credited towards another degree at NUS, on a case-by-case basis and subject to approval, more than 50% of the MCs required in the coursework component of the NUS graduate research programme may be allowed credit and grade transfer.Students seeking credit transfer and exemption should apply to the relevant programme office within the first semesterCall for Applications for Leave for Academic Purposes (Conference) & Financial Assistance1. Unlike undergraduate education, most graduate programmes are designed to be largely self-funding, with little or no subsidy from the Government of Singapore. Nonetheless, at present, all graduate research programmes and some graduate coursework programmes remain subsidised to asignificant extent.TuitionThe annual tuition fees for different categories of government-subsidised graduate programmes are set out here. The substantial tuition subsidy from the Government of Singapore comes in the form of a MOE Subsidy which is administered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and is offered to all admitted students up to the maximum course duration. Students need not apply for the MOE Subsidy if they are eligible. International Students reading a government-subsidised programme can apply for the Service Obligation Scheme to pay reduced, subsidised tuition fees. Most government-subsidised programmes are deemed feasible by the University to offer the Service Obligation Scheme except for programmes listed here.Tuition fees for self-funded graduate coursework programmes can be found at the respective programme websites. The list of self-funded graduate coursework programmesis set out here.Mandatory Miscellaneous FeesMiscellaneous fees are typically levied on items that are either not covered or partially covered by tuition fee and grant/subsidy. All students, whether registered on a full-time or part-time basis, are charged the mandatory miscellaneous fees. These are due at the same time as the tuition fees. These fees help defray the costs of student activity, health services and insurance, campus shuttle service and other services. Annual miscellaneous fees payable are set out in here.Fee Payment ProceduresThe Office of Financial Services publishes information on deadlines for fee payments and modes of fee payment. The Office will send an email notification to students, at their NUS email accounts, to view their Student Bill online at least 2 weeks beforethe scheduled deadline for fee payment.Students may wish to familiarize themselves with information on fee payable upon termination/withdrawal of candidature, application of leave of absence and submissionof thesis (if applicable).Late and Partial Payment PenaltiesStudents who do not meet fee payment deadlines stipulated by the Office of Financial Services may incur penalty fees. If fees are not paid, or only partially paid, by the due date indicated in the bill, a late fee will be stipulated. For students whose fees remain in arrears, the University reserves the right to take further action as deemed necessary including barring such students from module registrations in a subsequent semester, canceling such students’ current module registrations, withholding student status letters, results slips or transcripts, withholding thesis examination and the confirmation of the award of the degree.Change in Academic LoadFor programmes with different fee rates for full-time and part-time enrolment, part-time fees are payable for students who convert from full-time to part-time within Instructional Week 2 of the semester. Full-time fees would be charged for conversionsthereafter.Full-time fees will be charged for conversion from part-time to full-time anytimethroughout the semester.Staff ConcessionStudents who are full-time NUS staff members may be eligible to apply for the staff concession on the tuition fees of part-time, government-subsidised graduate programmes. Information on the staff concession is available at OHR Intranet at StaffPortal.Refund PolicyWith effect from AY2009/10, Semester 2, students who leave the University, either through withdrawal on their own accord or termination of candidature by the University, after Instructional Week 2 of the semester will be liable to pay feesfor the entire semester.Financial AssistanceNUS has an array of financial assistance and scholarships/awards available to help graduate students finance their studies in the University. Applicants should check with their prospective department for questions regarding letters ofrecommendation.Be sure to inform your recommenders of the departments’ deadline.Your recommenders are asked to give their personal impressions of your intellectual ability, your aptitude in research or professional skills, your character, and the quality of your previous work and potential for future productive scholarship.Applicants may waive the right to inspect their letters of recommendation on a voluntary basis. To waive access to your letters, complete the waiver section of the Letter of Recommendation. The Graduate Division may verify the authenticity of academic letters of recommendation with the school or recommender.Application FeeYou must submit an application fee when you apply. The application fee is not refundable. If you are a U.S. citizen or current permanent resident, the application fee is $90; for all others, the fee is $110.Fee Waiver: U.S. citizens or permanent residents who can demonstrate financial need are eligible to apply for a waiver of the application fee.See guidelines for waivers.Fee Exemption: some programs do not require the application fee payment. See Guidelines for Fee ExemptionCourse Work Only StatusIf you want to undertake graduate study without working for a higher degree, you may apply for course-work-only status. You must, however, meet the same admission requirements as degree candidates, have a definite scholarly or professional purpose inapplying, and be admitted to a regularly established major field of study. There is no limited or unclassified status available to graduate students. Course work only students do not qualify for fellowship consideration or for academic appointment as a Graduate Student Instructor and can be accommodated only if a department is willing to include them in its enrollment target. Not all departments accept course work only students. Please check with your academic department before starting an application. There is a maximum of two semesters of study. Admission to course work only status precludes all future admission to any degree program at UC Berkeley.Duplication of Doctoral DegreeStudents who already hold a doctoral level degree are not admitted and duplication of degree or admission to a lesser degree is not permitted. However, in extraordinary circumstances, the faculty of the department may request an exception from the Dean of the Graduate Division. The department must demonstrate that the second degree field of study and program are distinctly different from that of the original degree, and that there is a professional or scholarly purpose that requires this second degree.University Extension, Concurrent EnrollmentConcurrent courses are those taken through University Extension under the instruction of a regular member of the Berkeley faculty. Concurrent enrollment cannot replace normal registration by Berkeley graduate students, nor can it be used to accumulate credit toward a degree from Berkeley. Berkeley Division regulation A208 allows UC Berkeley Extension courses carrying the “XB” designation on University Extension transcripts to be accepted for unit, requirement and grade-point credit on the Berkeley campus under specific conditions (see the Academic Senate website). Exceptions will be considered only upon the recommendation of a Graduate Adviser to the Dean of the Graduate Division and only when it is evident that a student was in graduate standing at an institution other than Berkeley when he or she undertook the course work.Transfer of Credit from Other InstitutionsYou cannot transfer credit from other institutions if you are seeking a Ph.D. degree. Up to six quarter units or four semester units of credit for work you have taken elsewhere can be credited toward the master’s degree if (a) the work was taken in graduate status at an accredited institution, (b) it did not form part of a program for a degree previously awarded at Berkeley or elsewhere, and (c) the grade received was at least a “B” and the student’s overall GPA at both institutions was at least 3.3. Acceptance is subject to the approval of the Graduate Division upon recommendation of the department concerned. Transfer of credit will not reduce your academic residence requirements or the required minimum of 200-series courses in the major field.Summer SessionsTo apply for admission to the Summer Sessions, visit the Summer Sessions website. Registration and fee payment may be completed online. Course work completed in a Summer Session immediately preceding the initial fall enrollment may apply toward a graduate program.。

This pivotal examination serves as a critical gateway for countless individuals seeking to pursue postgraduate studies, and the Cloze Test section is one of the most challenging components that test-takers must confront. The Cloze Test, a technique that assesses an individual's ability to comprehend and fill in the missing words in a given passage, has long been a cornerstone of the English II exam. It requires a deep understanding of vocabulary, grammar, and contextual clues, challenging test-takers to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language. This section not only evaluates a candidate's linguistic competence but also their critical thinking skills, as they must analyze the structure and flow of the text to determine the most appropriate word to complete each blank. For the aspiring graduate students, the Cloze Test represents aformidable obstacle that must be overcome with meticulous preparation and a keen attention to detail. The passage presented in this section is typically drawn from a variety of academic and professional sources, covering a wide range of topics, from scientific breakthroughs to literary analysis. The test-taker must navigate through these challenging passages, seamlessly filling in the blanks with the correct words that maintain the coherence and meaning of the text.Effective preparation for the Cloze Test section begins with a comprehensive review of vocabulary, focusing on both common and specialized terms that are commonly encountered in academic and professional settings. This foundational knowledge is then coupled with a deep understanding of grammatical structures, allowing the test-taker to identify the appropriate parts of speech and their contextual usage within the passage. In addition to mastering vocabulary and grammar, successful Cloze Test performance also requires a keen eye for textual cohesion and coherence. Test-takers must be adept at recognizing the logical flow of ideas, identifying the relationships between sentences, and using contextual clues to determine the most suitable word to fill each blank. This skill set not only enhances performance on the Cloze Test but also translates to effective written communication in academic and professional settings. To further bolster their chances of success, aspiring graduate students should engage in extensive practice with a wide range of Cloze Test samples, gradually building their confidence and honing their skills. This hands-on approach allows them to become familiar with the format, the types of passages, and the common patterns that emerge in the Cloze Test section. By repeatedly exposing themselves to these practice tests, test-takers can develop a keen intuition for identifying the correct answers and refine their test-taking strategies. Moreover, effective time management is crucial in the Cloze Test section, as test-takers are required to swiftly and accurately complete the passage within a limited timeframe. Through practice and strategic planning, candidates can learn to prioritize their attention, allocating more time to the more challenging blanks while efficiently navigating the easier ones.As the 2024 Graduate Admission English Exam approaches, aspiring graduate students must approach the Cloze Test section with a combination of diligent preparation, strategic thinking, and unwavering determination. Graduate Admission Guidelines
The graduate admission process is complicated and time-consuming, but you can get through it.
The most important part of the graduate school application process is probably the amount of introspection and research you have to put into it. Identify your goals and what you hope to achieve by going to graduate school, and then find the school that you think can help you achieve those goals -- and that you think you can get into.
Once you’ve done that, start applying by taking a n organized approach to the process; this should help ease you through it with a little less stress.
Graduate school admissions: Deciding where to apply
The decision to go to grad school is an important one and you should realistically define where it makes sense to apply. Take the same approach that’s recommended for applying to college by choosing one or two “safety” schools, a few in the middle range, and a couple of “if you’re lucky” schools.
Being realistic about your qualifications doesn’t mean yo u need to immediately dismiss programs you think you can’t get into -- you can never be too sure of who they may accept from year to year…it could be you. So fulfill the graduate school requirements, and take a shot!
Graduate school admissions: Taking standardized tests
Early on in the graduate admission process, determine if you need to take any standardized exams (such as the GRE) as part of your application. Completing these and getting your scores back will help you rule out -- or in -- any schools you may have on your academic wish list.
Grad schools are more competitive than college when it comes to admission, so it’s good to know early on what your test scores are so you can weigh them along with all your other qualifications. If your scores are higher than the average student accepted at the school, then your chances are good, so long as the rest of your graduate application is in line.
Graduate school admissions: Completing the graduate school application
If you know where you want to apply, start getting ready at least a year and a half before enrolling -- two years if you’re applying for national fellowships or going after a professional degree in law or med school. Wherever you’re applying to graduate school, you’ll need time to meet all the deadli nes.
Completing your applications requires test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, lists of achievements and activities, and your all-important personal statement -- the basic graduate school requirements. If you’re going straight through from college, spend time rubbing elbows with your professors and leaving them with a positive impression -- it may help you get accepted.
Graduate school admission: Meeting deadlines
Graduate application deadlines for fall admission may range from August -- one full year prior to your planned enrollment -- to late spring or summer for programs with rolling admissions. Some schools may even accept applications up to the time that school starts, particularly if not enough students applied or were accepted.
If you’re under the gun or missed the printed deadline altogether, contact the particular school you’re interested in (as in College of Engineering, College of Public Affairs, etc.) to find out if they make exceptions to what they have in print.
However, most programs will probably require you to submit your application between January and March of the year you wish to enroll. Check your deadlines carefully. Different aspects of your application or different programs within the same school may have different deadlines.
Graduate school admission: Seeking financial aid
If you’re applying for financial aid, give yourself extra time to assemble all of the financial information you’ll need to support your request for assistance. You may have to submit your entire application earlier than students who are not applying for financial aid, so make sure you check the deadlines and are clear on which one applies to your situation.
While applying to graduate school can be rather complex, these basic guidelines should help keep you on track.。
