He growled up in South Africa, got degrees from Wharton, came to California, started a company, merged into a company, sold a company call ed paypal, some of you might have used it. He then has gone on to become the CEO of Tesla Motors and CEO of Spacex. And in his mind he has lots of brilliant ideas I know. It’s truly an honor and privilege to have you join us today, Mr. El on Musk.El on Musk: All right, thank you. So I’ve got probably ab out 5 to 6 minutes to say the useful things I think of. I’m gonna do my best. It was just that I was going to split things d own to three items. I think I’ll go with four. I think these are pretty important ones. Some of them may sound like what you have heard before but it worth re-emphasizing. The first is you need to work depend on what you want to d o. Typically when starting a company, you need to work super hard. So, what does super hard mean? When my brother and I started our first company, instead of getting an apartment, we just rented a small office and we slept on the couch. We shared the one XCA. And we were so hard that we had just one computer so the website is up during the day, and coding at night. Seven days a week, all the time. And I, ah, so briefly I had a girl friend at that period. And in order to be with me she just slept in the office. Work hard like every waking hour. That’s the thing I woul d say if you starting a company. And if you do a simple math like if somebody else is working 50 hours and you working a hundred, you will get twice as done as much as peers company.The other thing I’ll say is that if you are creating a company or you are joining a company, the most important thing is to attract great people. So either you will be j oining a group that’s amazing that you really respect or you create a company and gather great peopl e. All the company is a group of peopl e that gather together to create a product or service. And so depending on how tough and hard-working that group is in good direction that will turn the success of the company. So do everything you can d o gather great people if you are creating a company.Then I’ll focus on signals of noise. A lot of companies get confused that they spend money on things that don’t actua lly make the product better. For example, at Tesla, we never spend any money on advertising. We put all the money into perfection of design to try to make the car as good as possible. I think that’s the way to go. So, for any company you can keep thinking about all these efforts that people are spending are they resulting in better product or service. If they are not, stop those efforts.The final thing is don’t just foll ow the trend. You may have heard me say that it is good to think in terms of the Physics approach, the first principle, which is rather reasoning by anal ogy, go things d own to the most fundamental el ement you can imagine and you reason up from there. This is a good way to figure out if something really make sense or if it’s just what every body else is doing. It’s hard to think in that way that you can’t think that way abouteverything, it takes a lot of effort. But if you try to do something new, it’s the best way to think. That frame was brought about by physicists to figure out current tune things, like quantum mechanics. So it’s really a powerful message.I think the final thing I’ll encourage you to d o is that now is the time to take risk. You don’t have kids, your obligation or so… You probably don’t have kids.
