If your children are at school now, you owe it to them to help them learn how to study effectively. A good education is their ticket to success-invest a few dollars now and let them get the rewards for the rest of their lives.

Don't let your children get left behind when there are simple steps you can take now to guarantee that they can succeed in everything they choose to do.

It doesn't matter how young your children are. They all appreciate the opportunity to share books and games with you.

By starting early, you encourage your children to value reading and time spent with others, so that when they start school, they have experience in sharing quiet times.

By the time they reach 9-12 years old, your children will be enjoying reading much longer books-this is the age when they often seem to spend all their time with their noses buried in books -but don't discourage it!

Early teen years can be difficult for some children-there are so many physical and emotional (情感的) changes happening to them. Sometimes they feel as if they're the only ones who've

But before your children can go to college, they must be able to read! Hooked on Phonics for just $59. 95 per month.

Imagine a water bottle filled a quarter of the way up with oil. That's about how much oil was needed to produce the bottle.

So why don't more people drink water straight from the kitchen tap (水龙头)? Some people drink bottled water because they think it is better for them than water out of the tap, but that's not true. In the United States, local governments make sure water from the tap is safe. There is also growing concern that chemicals in the bottles themselves may enter the water.

People love the convenience of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a steel container instead of plastic.

Plastic bottle recycling can help -- instead of going out with the trash, plastic bottles can be turned into items like carpeting or cozy clothing. Unfortunately, for every six water bottles we use, only one makes it to the recycling bin. The rest are sent to landfills. Or, even worse, they end up as trash on the land and in rivers, lakes and the ocean. Plastic bottles take many hundreds of years to disintegrate.

Water is good for you to keep drinking it. But think about how often you use water bottles, and see if you can make a change.

Betty McLaughlin, who runs an organization called the Container Recycling Institute says, …If you take one to school in your lunch, don't throw it away--bring it home and refill it from the t ap for the next day. Keep track of how many times you refill a bottle before you recycle it.?And yes, you can make a difference. Remember this : Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for six hours.

When Steve Maxwell graduated from college, he had an engineering degree and a high-tech job —but he couldn?t balance his checkbook(支票簿). “I took one finance class in college but dropped it to go on a ski trip,” says the 45-year-old father of three, who lives in Windsor, Colorado. “I actually had to go t o my bank and ask them to teach me how to read my statement.”

One of the biggest difficulties in making money is not understanding it: Thousands of us avoid investing because we just don?t get it.But to make money, you must be financially wis e. “It bothered me that I didn?t understand this stuff,” says Steve,“so I read books and magazines about money management and investing, and I asked every financial whiz (能手) I knew to explain things to me.”

He and his wife started applying the lessons: They made a point to live below their means. They never bought without careful planning, always negotiated better deals (on their cars, cable bills, furniture) and stayed in their home long after they went for an expensive vacation. They also put 20 percent of their annual salary into investments.

Within ten years, they were millionaires, and people were coming to Steve for advice. “Someone would say, …I need to borrow money for a house — what should I do?? A lot of times, I wouldn?t know the answer, but I?d go to fin d it and learn something in the process,” he says.

In 2003, Steve quit his job to become part owner of a company that holds personal finance seminars(培训会)for employees . He also started going to inves tment seminars, and it?s paid off: He now owns $ 30 million worth of investment properties.

“I was an engineer who never thought this life was possible, but all it truly takes is

a little self-education,” says Steve. “You can do anything once you understan d the basics.”

This past fall I experienced a succession of stressful events in my life. First I received a devastating, terminal diagnosis for my beloved dog. Not two weeks later, while still trying to cope with his illness, I fell off a ladder and broke my wrist. Within a span

of two months I was dealing with serious emotional and physical healing (愈合). For the first time that I could remember, I couldn't reconcile ( 调和 ) the events in my life and I was havng a hard time coping. One particularly difficult afternoon I walked into my art studio, took out some watercolors and started to paint. With nothing in particular as the subject matter, I

produced sheets of abstract images full of bright color and movement.. It felt good to create.

For the first time in weeks, I felt good.

…Art can express what words can't, especially if there's been trauma (创伤),?says art therapist Cathy Malchiodi PHD. She says that our brain stores memories as images which is why it is easier to tap into them visually She cites artist Frida Kahlo who was severely injured in a bus accident when she was young. Many of Kahlo's paintings were done while she was lying in bed recovering, and her later works often included imagery that relates back to her accident, pain and recovery periods.

In addition to the process of painting and creating art, it has been documented that looking at art is beneficial and therapeutic (治疗的) as well. In the introduction of his book Lust for Life---a novel on the life of Vincent Van Gogh", author Irving Stone cites his experience with fine art. Prior to ever viewing a Van Gogh painting, Stone had lived for a year in Paris and Italy and was unmoved by the paintings he had seen. "Painting may be a very fine medium but it has nothing to say to me, at least nothing I can understand." After having been challenged to visit a Van Gogh exhibit, however, he writes that he was surprised by the paintings, "unable to move or breathe or think". Art is that Powerful.

All across the United States, honeybees are flying away from their hives (蜂房) and dying. Empty hives are causing a lot of worry about some important food crops.

Bees give us a lot more than delicious honey, and they enable plants to produce the fruits and nuts we enjoy by carrying pollen from one plant or flower to next. The wind pollinates (授粉) oats, corn, and wheat, but many other plants (like apple and cherry trees) depend on insects , bats, and birds.

Bees live in groups of about 40, 000 individuals called colonies. "The colony is what we call a super-organism," says Dr Jeff pettis of the Bee Research laboratory at the US Agricultural Research Service. "When a lot of the bees die! the whole colony is at risk "Researchers like him at government and university labs all over the country are trying to figure out why so many bee colonies are dying.

However, explains Pettis, bees are hard to study. Most die away from the hive, so researchers don't have dead bodies to examine. And when researchers return to the hive after two weeks, about half the bees they studied on their first visit will be dead, replaced by new ones in the natural

life cycle of bees. Besides, these busy insects fly up to two miles away from their hive in search of pollen and nectar(花蜜) from flowers. So when bees pick up diseases or get exposed to poisons in their environment, it is hard to know exactly where that happened.

However, researchers do have some ideas about what could be affecting the health of bees. They could be sick from poisons widely used to kill insects, or they might not be getting

enough good food to stay strong. Also, tiny insects called mites feed on bees. …Any or all of these things could be weakening the honeybees,?explains Pettis, …and then a virus or bacteria could be doing the killing.?

41. Agriculture experts in America are worried because_____________.

A. there won't be enough fruits for all the people

B. there won't be enough bees to pollinate food crops

C. a lot o£ bees have been poisoned to death

D. a lot of bees are leaving their natural hives

42. What Dr Jeff Pettis says in the third paragraph implies_____________.

A. bees have the habit of living and traveling alone

B. diseases usually spread quickly in the bee colonies

C. bees living in a large group are unfriendly to each other

D. big colonies should be made smaller to protect the bees

43. While studying bees, researchers have the following difficulties EXCEPT that__________.

A. most bees die in places far away from their hive

B. bees have a natural life cycle which is too quick

C. bees leave their hive too often in search of food

D. bees travel long distances looking for pollen and food

44. What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A. Bees can easily be harmed and hurt.

B. It's not yet certain why the bee colonies are dying.

C. Foods enjoyed by bees have been widely poisoned.

D. The number of bees' natural enemies is increasing fast.

45. What would be the best title for the passage?

A. Bee Mystery

B. Bee's Natural Life

C. Bees and Crops

D. Colony--A Super-Organism

Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (消除代沟). Don’t argue (争辩) with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry.
