If I were a freshman againSit quietly and reflected what I had done when I was a freshman. I still remembered how regretted I was when I knew my score of the final examination in the first term. And I always thought how wonderful if I could become a freshman again. If I were a freshman again, first, I would make myself familiar with the campus and never make myself lost in it –just nearby the foreign language building again. If I were a freshman again, I would never make myself lost in the novels any more. I would make full use of my leisure time to improve my English. I would go to the library to read all kinds of books, especially English newspaper and English novels, so that I could expand my knowledge. Besides, I would find a partner to practice oral English everyday. What’s more, I would ask my roommates and classmates to supervise me to carry out my study plan.If I were a freshman again, I would take active part in activities and never be shy again, because I want my college life full of passion. Meanwhile, I decide to do sports every week for I don’t want to have such a weak body any more, which can easily been ill. And I also would join in my roommates to do some shopping rather than stay in the dormitory quietly. If I were a freshman again, I would take care of my holiday. I maytake half of it for part-time job and take the rest for study. I would make it meaningful. If I were a freshman again, I would…..If I really could be a freshman again, I have so many things want to do, and I’m sure I really can be a different person. But lost time never find again. I think what I should do now is value present, do whatever I want and never let myself regret again.。
if i were a boy again 假如我又回到了童年if i were a boy again, i would practice perseverance more often, and never give up a thing because it was or inconvenient. if we want light, we must conquer darkness. perseverance can sometimes equal genius in its results. “there are only two creatures,” syas a proverb, “who ca n surmount the pyramids—the eagle and the snail.” if i were a boy again, i would school myself into a habit of attention; i would let nothing come between me and the subject in hand. i would remember that a good skater never tries to skate in two directions at once. the habit of attention becomes part of our life, if we begain early enough. i often hear grown up people say “ i could not fix my attention on the sermon or book, although i wished to do so” , and the reason is, the habit was not formed in youth. if i were to live my life over again, i would pay more attention to the cultivation of the memory. i would strengthen that faculty by every possible means, and on every possible occasion. it takes a little hard work at first to remember things accurately; but memory soon helps itself, and gives very little trouble. it only needs early cultivation to become a power.
If I were a freshman again…Time flies, it has been one year since I came to this college. To be honest, when I was just a senior high school student last year I was not ready to college, but now I am going to become a sophomore. While I was freshman, what college life is like, what I am going to do at the university and how to adjust to the college life; all about these are Greek to me. At that time, there were a lot of thoughts fulfill my head. I thought I should study hard and develop my own interest at leisure. I would take part in some school associations to enrich myself and make my college life colorful. What’s more, I could find a good part-time job to steel myself in labor and mind.I did so, I did most of them. If I were a freshman again, I would also did them again, but I would do something more. First of all, I would contact to my parents more frequently. Not only I had to adapt to the first yearI came to college, but also my parents had. And I did not aware of it when I was a freshman. Secondly, I would try to travel to somewhere all by myself once. The first year during the college is the best time for us to travel by ourselves. The first year is easier than the later, and we should build up our independent character. So traveling by ourselves is the best opportunity to help us become more independent and intelligent. The last thing I would do is to read. I would read more books to enrich myself. That is all what I would do if I were a freshman again. I know once timewent by, it will never back. We should move on, and don’t regret what we did. That’s enough.

If I was a freshman againTime fries! Now I was a sophomore. But I didn’t do anything meaningful when I was a freshman, even I can’t feel the improvement of my major—English. What’s terrible! What if I was a freshman again! If so,first, I would value every day, every minute, every second instead of wasting time, and spare no effort to improve my English including listening、speaking、reading、writing and vocabulary, to another level which I am strongly eager to reach. In order to achieve these aims, I would take detailed measures. First, get up at 6:10 everyday, even rainstorm and strong wind could not stop it. Then I would go to the playground, or other place which is quiet, reading books, reciting new words、beautiful sentence and new concept bookⅢ. In the listening aspect, my worst aspect, I would listen to VOA、BBC for at least two hours everyday so that I can improve my poor listening. And I would imitate new concept bookⅡto correct my prononciation and tone, communciate with my roommates in English, reading English newspaper or magazine, write an article or diary the other day, remember 10 new words each day. I could guarantee that I would enhance my English greatly in this way.On the other hand, if I was a freshman again, I would participate in more activities 、social practice and associations, in which I could make a lot of friends. More importantly, I could improve my capacity, train my character and build up my confidence. However, study is my first priority. What I want to improve most is study. Now it is no use to cherish the yesterday. It is said that,〝Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, today is a gift.〞So just value today, live in today, and then fight!。
If I were a freshman again.〈如果重做大學生〉,是美國上個世紀初伊利諾大學修辭學教授Thomas Arkle Clark一篇有名的講稿,對象當然是針對大學生,許多大學大一英文課都會選讀這篇文章,一方面作為新生的教材,更是對大學生的期許。
If I Were a Freshman Again (Thomas Arkle Clark)It is the habit of age to give sage advice to youth. One of the pastimes in which everyone periodically indulges is the pleasant hallucination that if he were given the opportunity to live his youth over again he would do it differently and more successfully. We are all of us, even though we have no more than reached middle age, given to regretting our neglected opportunities and our lost youth. It gives one a virtuous feeling in imagination to dodge all error but it is extremely doubtful if many of us, even if we had a second chance, would avoid many of the pitfalls into which we stumbled, or follow a straighter path than that by which we have so far come. If it is merely pleasant for us to conjecture what we should do if we had a second try at it, it may be profitable for those who are younger to listen. If only foresight could be as accurate as the backward view!
02.《If I Were a Freshman Again》

If I were a freshmanI have been here for about 3 years. Time is fleeting so fast that I could not find out where time is going. Although four years in college is only a small part of our whole life, I think we still need to cherish and make the full out of it.If I were a freshman, I would have different schedules or plans to enrich my first year in college. When entering the college, almost all of us thought that we would have 4 years to spend or even to kill. Someone stayed in the dormitory all day long, playing computer games or just hanging around. Someone had been sleeping day after day. Only a few people considered their future after graduation 4 years later.Time and tide wait for no one. If I were a freshman, first of all, I would realize that I had entered college. That means I embarked upon a stage or transitional period before entering the society. I have to study hard and try to widen my horizon. Besides, I should pay more attention to my comprehensive quality to get along well with people and deal with different situations. If I were a freshman, I would make the following plans.I would often look up information in the school library. And I would borrow some books on English, history, health, science and so on. I would draw up detailed timetable to peruse these books. Reading books is not only pleasant but also inspiring and instructive. There is a well-known saying “Book is human’s best friend’’.If I were a freshman, I would join some mass organizations or clubs .In reality, so did I. but there are some things which I did n’t do actually in the club activity .For example, I would exchange and cooperate more with community members so as to make more friends with different major backgrounds, interests and hobbies. If I were a freshman, I would take part in more activities in the English department. No one is born with the ability to do everything. All people need to learn .I would also try my best to do to enhance my basic skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. This is also a major reason for me to take part in this speech contest. If I were a freshman, I would take some time to build up a strong body and keep fit. If I were a freshman, I would moonlight and earn some money. That may help me to grow up rapidly and accumulate more experience and get ready for my future career.Actually, I am not a freshman but I should also follow the correct route to tap my potential to the full and make the one year left colorful and productive. I believe I can realize my dream with that attitude.。

If I Were Young AgainIf I were young again, I would cherish every moment, like a budding flower embracing the morning dew. I would seize the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow, making the most of my youthful energy and enthusiasm. In my younger days, I was filled with dreams and aspirations. I envisioned a future where I could make a difference in the world, contribute to society, and pursue my passions with unwavering determination. Oh, how I miss that unyielding spirit of my youth! If I were young again, I would fearlessly chase after my dreams, unburdened by the weight of doubt and fear. I would take risks, step out of my comfort zone, and embrace the unknown, for I know now that growth comes from pushing boundaries and taking chances.I would cherish the simple joys of life, the laughter of friends, the warmth of family, and the beauty of nature. I would slow down to appreciate the little things that often go unnoticed, for it is in these moments that true happiness lies.If I were young again, I would value the gift of time and not waste it on trivial matters. I would spend more time with loved ones, creating precious memories that would last a lifetime. I would savor each passing day, knowing that life is a fleeting journey, and every moment counts.I would embrace failure as a stepping stone to success, for I have learned that setbacks and challenges are opportunities for growth and learning. I would not be discouraged by obstacles but face them with resilience and perseverance. If I were young again, I would not let the opinions of others define me. I would be true to myself, follow my heart, and stand up for what I believe in. I would be unapologetically me, confident in my uniqueness and authenticity. But alas, time waits for no one, and youth is a chapter that once passed cannot be revisited. While I may not be young again, I can still carry the lessons of youth with me. I can embrace the spirit of curiosity, the courage to dream, and the joy of living in the present. If I were young again, I would know that the key to a fulfilling life lies not in the past or future, but in making the most of the present moment. For it is in the now that we have the power to shape our destiny and create a life that we can look back on with pride and contentment. So, let us cherish the wisdom gained from the passing of time and embrace the youthful spirit that resides within us, for it is never too late to live with the passion and vigor of youth.。
