赏析：如果将“I long for you terribly.”译成“我想死你 了”，也很不错，同上面的译句一样地道。选了这样一 个译例，是觉得“torment”译成“熬煎”，不落俗套， 颇有新意，如果随手将其译为“煎熬”，感情色彩就弱 得多，因为“煎熬”在日常生活中用得太多了。语言学 研究告诉我们，一个词或一个表达方式，使用得愈多， 其表现力就越弱。翻译时，译者在不违背原意的情况下， 宜多iver-brink they lingered till the fog began to close round them which was very early in the evening at this time of the year - settling on the lashes of her eyes, where it rested like crystals, and on his brows and hair. 赏析：原文共四句话，三个祈使句加一个陈述句。 前两个祈使句，被译成了两个结构相同、字数一 样的祈使句，形成排比，干净而有力。第三个祈 使句，译者将其拆译成两个小句，"要"怎么怎么， "不要"怎么怎么，形成强烈的对比，语气不容置 疑。译文与原文不仅"神似"，而且"形似"。本来" 优胜劣败"已经能够表达"the success of the best by means of force"的主要意思，译者仍加上了一 个"弱肉强食"，是为了句子节奏的和谐，更是为 了突出、强调说话人的观点。
黄博士的评价无疑是中肯的。至于黄博士说"靠拆句拼字 的机械办法是出不了那么好的译文的"，照笔者的理解是，要 出好的译文，译者必须在充分理解原文内容、思想、感情、 语气，掌握原文风格的基础上，融会贯通，将原文抛到一边， 摆脱原文形式上的束缚，设想"若令原作者用中文表达其原意， 他当作何语？"（曹译《培根随笔选-前言》如此方能在"神"上与原文 契合无间）。这种观点也许会让读者觉得笔者前后矛盾："既 然你前文说过要重视原文的"形"，怎么在这儿又大谈'摆脱原 文的形'？"笔者的回答是："理想的译文当然是'形神皆似'， 而如果两者不能得兼，那就要视具体情况，由译者定夺，至 少译文应具有某一种长处。"神似而形不似"的译作尚可为人 们接受，"形似而神不似"的译作很少有人认同。事实上，对" 形"、"神"重视程度的不同，反映了两种不同的翻译观，而在 笔者看来，在翻译标准还没有完全确定下来之前--也许永远 也确定不下来，应提倡翻译方法上的多样化和翻译批评上的 多元化，这也就是鲁迅先生所提倡的"翻译的路要放宽"（《鲁 迅全集》第5卷，第508页）。

赏析：原文两句，译文也只有两句，第一句概说，第二句从各 个角度描述“此邦”得天独厚的妩媚。由于使用了排比句式 （“那+形容词+的+形容词或名词+名词”结构的重复使用）， 译文充分再现了原文形式上的美，而原文的气势在译文中也表 露无遗。高健先生的词汇丰富在这段译文里得到了充分的展示， 像“世罕其俦”、“富饶盈衍”、“雷鸣喧飚”、“阒寂”等， 都不是现代汉语里的常见词，而高健先生却用得驾轻就熟，贴 切写意，让人不能不赞叹。

着名作家、翻译家萧乾在“漫谈文学翻译”一文中说：“我 觉得搞翻译时，理解力占四成，表达力占六成”（《当代文 学翻译百家谈》，第355页），而在表达力这六成中，驾驭丰 富词汇的能力恐怕至少占了三成。所以对有志于翻译的朋友 来说，多多观察、多多阅读以扩大词汇量，提高自己的表达 能力，应是一辈子的事。
