Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. Today, I stand before you to share my profound love for a game that transcends time, culture, and borders—Go, also known as Weiqi in Chinese and Igo in Japanese. Go is not just a game; it is a philosophy, an art, and a way of life. It has captured my heart and soul, and I am here to convey why I believe it is a game worth loving.Firstly, let me take you back to the ancient origins of Go. It is believed to have originated in China more than 2,500 years ago. The game was played by scholars, philosophers, and warriors, all of whom found solace and enlightenment in its intricate strategy and depth. Over the centuries, Go has spread across Asia, gaining popularity in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, and has even reached the Western world. The beauty of Go lies in its simplicity and complexity. The game is played on a grid of 19x19 intersections, with two players taking turns placing black and white stones on the board. The objective is to control more territory than your opponent by surrounding empty spaces with your stones. At first glance, the rules seem straightforward, but thestrategic possibilities are endless. What makes Go so captivating is its depth. Unlike other games, such as chess or checkers, Go does not have a fixed number of moves or a clear path to victory. Each move can lead to countless variations, and the game can evolve in unpredictable ways. This allows players to think creatively and adapt to changing situations, which is a skill that extends beyond the game itself. One of the reasons I love Go is its emphasis on patience and calmness. The game requires a high level of concentration, and players must beable to maintain their composure in the face of adversity. This mental discipline has been a valuable lesson for me, teaching me to stayfocused and think clearly under pressure. Moreover, Go has a rich cultural heritage that adds to its allure. Ithas been a source of inspiration for artists, poets, and musiciansthroughout history. The Chinese philosopher Confucius once said, "The wise man learns from every event, and the skilled player learns from every game of Go." This quote encapsulates the essence of Go as a game that fosters wisdom and personal growth.Another reason I am passionate about Go is its community. Go clubs and tournaments are found all over the world, and players of all ages and skill levels come together to share their love for the game. The spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship is palpable in these gatherings, and it is a testament to the universal appeal of Go.The game has also played a significant role in my personal development. As a young child, I was introduced to Go by my father, who saw its potential to enhance my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Since then, I have dedicated countless hours to studying the game, attending workshops, and participating in local tournaments. The journey has been challenging, but it has been immensely rewarding. One of the most memorable moments in my Go career was when I qualified for the national Go tournament. The experience was exhilarating, and it taught me the importance of perseverance and hard work. Although I did not win the tournament, the opportunity to compete against players from all over the country was a humbling and inspiring experience. In addition to its personal benefits, Go has a significant impact on society. It encourages the development of cognitive abilities, such as spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, and strategic thinking. These skills are highly valuable in various fields, from business to science. By fostering a love for Go, we can contribute to the cultivation of a more intelligent and innovative society. In conclusion, my passion for Go is a testament to the game's timeless beauty and profound impact on individuals and cultures. It has enriched my life in countless ways, teaching me valuable lessons about patience, discipline, and adaptability. As I continue to delve deeper into the world of Go, I am reminded of the words of Go master and philosopher Go Seigen: "Go is a game of life."Ladies and Gentlemen, let us embrace the spirit of Go, a game that transcends borders and unites us in our shared love for intellectual challenge and personal growth. Thank you for listening, and may the beauty of Go continue to inspire us all.Thank you.。
Hello!
Today my topic is weiqi.
It seems that weiqi is far away from us, but I think we Chinese people should know something about weiqi.
My presentation on weiqi is divided into four parts:
1. Origin of weiqi
2. Development of weiqi
3. Weiqi and life
4. Two famous players
It is universally acknowledged that weiqi is originated from ancient China.
And it was recorded in historical book that "Yao created weiqi to teach his son Danzhu."
As we all know the four ancient Chinese arts to judge people's talent and cultivation are qin qi shu hua, and in which the qi refers to weiqi.
Since weiqi was created, it was gradully accepted and loved by people. And till South and North Dynasty weiqi is widely accepted by the mass also the classes. It reaches second summit during Tang Dynasty. But after the Opium War weiqi was ignored by people and fortunately it was picked up again.
Now weiqi are popular in China, Japan and Korea also the levels of weiqi in these three countries are highest.
Weiqi is the treasure of Chinese culture, it contains the meaning of the world. Duiyi is just like competition in our life: the black and white pieces contain the sense of equal. The players need wisdom to fight on the board, broad mind to think, to balance the gain and loss, perseverance to fight for the 1/4 piece.
On good players, here I recommend you two people, Huanglongshi and WuQingyuan. HuangLongshi is called the saint of weiqi in China and the weiqi databook he left has largely helped the development of weiqi. And the Go Master WuQingyuan is a Chinese but he applied for naturalization of Japan during the war between the two countries. He had received good education and become No.1 in Japan, and his New Position has a great effect on the traditional weiqi. If you want to know more about WuQingyuan, I recommend you to see the movie "WuQingyuan."
Weiqi is good game to train your mind. You can have a try!
Thank You!。
