从跨文化交际角度对比中西方餐桌礼仪的不同［Abstract］In the modern society, the cross-culture communication between China and Western countries becomes a hot issue and the influences of China and Western etiquette are increasingly profound, which cause the differences in table manners. By the analysis of the differences between Chinese and western dietary cultures, we can comprehend the respective cultural traditions of China and the west, and set up a harmonious relationship with the westerns.

I. Introduction

With the development of global economy, cross-culture communication has become more and more frequent, and the differences between Chinese and western culture have become more obvious, especially the differences of table manners.

In cross culture communication, the misunderstandings caused by culture barrier appear frequently. Sometimes well-meaning talking might make people embarrassed. So, studying the differences between different cultures and studying the right actions of cross-culture communication are necessary. The purpose of knowing the differences and similarities of

table manners is to understand the present cross-cultural situation and to have a better idea of people’s relationships by avoiding unnecessary misunderstanding and mistakes. Through comparing the table manners of China and Western countries and keeping pace with the changing world can be more meaningful to all people.

Having dinner is more than the basic necessity of life.

Instead, having dinner is an important part of social formula. Due to Chinese and foreigners’different life styles, the way of thinking, cultures and table manners show a big difference. Chinese table manners have a long history, which dated from Zhou Dynasty, at that time table manners have a quite complete system. Those table manners gradually go to a level of mature and perfect, moreover, they took an important part in the past and still have a deep influence in the modern society. Western dining customs originate in Merovingian Dynasty, France, and in the 20 century, Italian culture came to France, table manners and menu turned to be more elegant and delicate, from that time, books of etiquette are published gradually. Today, table manners inherit in Europe. Table manners in Western countries have influence on Chinese table manners because of World Integration.
