I’d s een her before; she was a regular, like me. Every day I would ride the city bus from Burlington to Saint Michael’s college in Colchester. On this day I was riding with a friend. We were sitting in the back, observing a tone-deaf(音盲的) woman practicing her singing. Not only was her voice unb earable, but she would harass(骚扰) every person that got on or off the bus. The driver became annoyed.“Ma’am,you’ve got to settle down,” he demanded. The bus ride gave me plenty of time to think about everything.I would imagine what it would be like to have the bus driver’sjob. The man is under constant stress, narrowly missing cars while making a turning and paying attention to bus stops. When we reached our stop, my friend pulled the yellow cord t o signal the driver. The bus had a door in the front and in the middle. Since we were sitting in the back, my friend excited th rough the closer middle one. I, however, walked out through t he front, past the singing woman, giving the driver a wave and a “thank you”.“You are welcome… have a nice day,” he resp onded, sounding puzzled.I started walking with my friend. “Why do you always walk out the front? The middle door is right there,” she asked.“To say goodbye.” I responded.“What?” she said. “You’re crazy.”But I don’t think I’m crazy. I have a personal obligation(责任) to the man who transported me across town. I don’t know his name, but he deserves my respect. So many people walk through those bus doors, with little regard for others around th em. Politeness goes a long way, and a smile always lightens t he mood and brightens a room. It is so beautiful that photos of it shared on social media may make people that can’t visit it f eel depressed, so local authorities banned tourists from taking photos. It may sound like a joke, but it’s actually a new law approve d by its mayor(市长). The justification for the photo ban is that photos of the be autiful village could make people seeing them on social media jealous(嫉妒的) and depressed. To prevent visitors from taking photos in B ergun, a symbolic €5 fine will be given to those caught breaki ng the law.“We don’t want to make people outside the community unhap py by sharing social media photos of our landscape, and we warmly invite people to visit Bergun to experience it in person.” said the mayor. However, it seems unlikely that Bergun’s new law was really t hought up as a way to spare people from the depressing expe rience of seeing the beauty of the village. As the news spread online, many guessed that it was actually a clever marketing scheme, and this theory was partially confirmed by the village’s director of tourism, Marc-Andrea Barandun.“Now everyone is talking about Bergun, so it’s a combination of both — we made the law and also there’s some marketing aim behind it.” Barandun added that it was unlikely that anyon e would actually be fined for taking a photo in the village. To show that they were serious about the law, Bergun authorities removed photos of the village from Facebook and Twitter, and have declared their purpose to remove them from the Ber gun website too. If the new law is just a promotional(营销的) tool, it actually worked wonders, as people started posting more photos of the village soon after the news of the photo b an started making headlines.8. Why did Bergun authorities forbid visitors to take photos of their village?A. It was only a joke made by the authorities.B. The photos may cause uneasy feeling.C. The authorities wanted to get more fines.D. The photos prevented visitors visiting the village.9. The law will not be applied strictly.B. Visitors should treat the law seriously.C. The law is only a trick to attract visitors.D. The law may have a bad effect on the tourism.11. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A. People will post more photos online to break the law.B. The photos of the village will disappear soon online.C. Fewer and fewer people will visit the village.D. The village will become better-known.D’s new robot HSR is devoted to a single task: picking things u p. HSR is short for “human support robot”. It comes with a sin gle mechanical arm that can hold objects of various shapes a nd sizes and pick up smaller items with a tiny cup. It doesn’t h ave other tricks, except for a computer panel on its head for s urfing the Internet. A person can also access the robot from a nother computer and use it like a camera-phone.HSR will first be used for people with disabilities and then for t he elderly in general. Picking up is especially challenging for p eople with spinal(脊柱的) disorders and other illnesses. Although it can only do one simple task of picking up, it’s already making disabled people quite happy. “We’re just getting started, but eventually it will e nter people’s homes,” the engineer Kouichi Ikeda said. Nearly40 percent of ’s population will be 65 or older by 2060 and the rest of the developed world and some developing nations will follow it. “People feel more comfortable asking a robot to pic k up after them than asking a human helper,” said Ikeda.came up with the idea of HSR in 2012. The model should be ready to enter universities, research facilities and businesses next year, where it can get more applications. One disadvanta ge is that mass(大规模的) production is needed for the price to come down. The robot has several cameras, including two on its head that look like its eyes and sensors(感应器) on its body. It runs quietly around in all directions. Unlike o ther robotic arm, HSR’s hold and bumps are designed to be s oft so they can’t hurt anyone. But it can pick up items that wei gh up to 2.6 pounds.12. What do we know about HSR?A. It can fulfill various needs.B. It can help get different things.C. It can be made into different sizes.D. It cannot be used to surf the Internet.13. It works by sensors.D. It has many cameras.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

A(山西省大同一中2017-2018学年高二3月月考)Sunstroke (中暑) is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn’t given immediately.Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke, is a result of the body temperature rising above safe limits. This causes the body’s necessary functions to stop working. It’s usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person’s body to a safe t emperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.Call for helpCall to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted(昏倒). Also, call for help from anyone ne arby if yo u’ re in a public place. If there’s no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn’t much nearby.Get the person to a cooler areaIf there’s a b uilding n earby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditionings and water is perfect. If a building isn’t available, bring the person to a well shaded area.Get the water flowingIf the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there’s a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.If your water supply is limited, you have to save it. Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person’s body.Focus on the face, neck, and chest.Fan the personGetting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything, a towel or sheet, a shirt or your hands, or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body.21. When does a person get sunstroke?A. When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear.B. When proper care is not given immediately.C. When someone is exposed to the sun working too long.22. What is mainly discussed in the passage?A. The chief symptoms of sunstroke.B. The cause of sunstroke.C. The first aid for sunstroke.D. The essential preventions of sunstroke.23. The passage probably comes from ________.A. a guide bookB. a book reviewC. an official documentD. a medical magazineB(河南省中原名校2017-2018学年高二第三次联考)When I was in fourth grade, I worked part-time as a paperboy. Mrs.Stanley was one of my customers. She’d watch me coming down her street, and by the time I’d hiked up to her doorstep, there’d be a cold drink waiting, I’d sit and drink while she talked.Mrs.S tanley talked mostly about her dead husband, “Mr.Stanley and I went shopping this morning.” she’d say. The first time she said that, soda (汽水) went up my nose.I told my father how Mrs. Stanley talked as if Mr. Stanley were still alive. Dad said she was probably lonely, and that I ought to sit and listen and nod my head and smile, and maybe she’d work it out of her system. So that’s what I did, and it turned out Dad was right. After a while she seemed content to leave her husband over at the cemetery(墓地).I finally quit delive ring newspapers and didn’t see Mrs. Stanley for several years. Then we crossed paths at a church fund-raiser (募捐活动).She was spooning mashed potatoes and looking happy. Four years before, she’d had to offer her paperboy a drink to have someone to talk with. Now she had friends. Her husband was gone, but life wenton.I live in the city now, and my paperboy is a lady named Edna with three kids. She asks me how I’m doing. When I don’t say “Fine”, she sticks around to hear my problems. She’s lived in the city most of her life, but she knows about community. Community isn’t so much a place as it is a state of mind. You find it whenever people ask how you’re doing because they care, and not because they’re getting paid to do so. Sometimes it’sgood to just smile, nod your head and listen.24. Why did soda go up the author’s nose one time?A. He was talking fast.B. He was shocked.C. He was in a hurry.D. He was absent-minded.25. Provost Eric Darr of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in Pennsylvania tells NPR’s (National Public Radio) Guy Raz that he wanted his students to not onlythink about this question, but live it.“Often there are behaviors, habits, ways we use technology that we may ourselves not even be able to express clearly because we’re not aware of them,” Darr says.So this week, Darr will enforce a campus-wide social media blackout —no Facebook, no Twitter, no instant messaging —nothing.Social Media ExileAccess to these popular social media tools will be blocked from campus computers through the week. This is nota disciplinary (纪律上的) exercise, Darr says, but an academic one. At the end of the week, students will write reflective essays about their time without social media.Three Harrisburg University students, Ashley Harris, Gio Acosta and Oluyemi Afuape, volunteered to discuss the experiment, and it turns out they have mixed feelings.Afuape isn’t a big fan of Facebook, and says he doesn’t expect to be challenged by the blackout. But Harris is going to have a hard time not posting her whereabouts to friends.“My biggest problem is not being able to find people,’’ Harris says, “because I use Facebook and Twitter to find people at school, to see where they’re at.”Even before hearing about the blackout, Acosta found it necessary to cut himself off the constant social media chatter.“I had my phone set to receive Facebook, texts, tweets —and ring —so I had to turn that off between 3 and 6 in the morning so I can actually sleep during that time” Acosta says. “If you don’t set the limits, it’s a 24-hour thing.”Hope Fro m The ‘Post-Facebook’ GenerationOutspoken social media critic Jaron Lanier (who was alsonamed one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of the year) says Harrisburg University’s experiment may be too extreme. He would prefer that students donate a penny to charity every time they access social media.“Bec ause that would create awareness, they would be aware of how much they were doing,” Lanier says, “making the use of it into something that’s more conscious and more considered.”Lanier is mainly worried that social media creates superficial ties rather tha n lasting friendship. But he says he’s optimistic about the “post-Facebook generation” —teenagers he hears from in high schools who don’t identify with Facebook.Lanier hopes this generation will spark something of a renaissance (新生), declaring, “No, we ar e individuals; we invent ourselves; we’re not going to have some third-party advertising business define us. We invent our own taste, and furthermore, we decide what friendship means.”28. What do the underlined words “live it” in Paragraph 1 probably refer to?A. Making a living without the Internet.B. Leading a life without social media.C. Experiencing the popularity of social media.D. Being aware of the importance of technology.29. What do we know about the cutoff experiment?A. The experiment lasted a week and was very successful.B. Only three students participated in the experiment.C. The participants had terrible feelings toward the cutoff.D. The experiment had something to do with st udents’ schoolwork.30. What is Lanier’s opinion about the ex periment?A. The university should do the experiment in a moremoderate way.B. The experiment should include the “post-Facebook generation”.C. Students should donate some money to the experiment.D. The experiment can make the students more conscious and considered.31. What’s the passage mainly about?A. The disadvantages of social media.B. Some people’s views on social media.C. A university’s experiment on social media.D. Challenges to the “post-Facebook generation”.D(广东省中山一中等七校2017-2018学年高二3月联考)Is It Worth Buying Organic Food?Organic food, grown without artificial chemicals, is increasingly popular nowadays. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (商标). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, you might want to save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren't necessarily more nutritious, and they're no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either. The latest results, published in the Annuals of Internal Medicine, suggest that buyers may be wasting their money. "We did not find strong evidence that organic food is more nutritious or healthier," says Dr. Crystal Smith-Spangler from Stanford. "So consumers shouldn't assume that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer."For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleaguesconducted a review of two categories of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats. While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn't always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that "whether you buy organic or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste." Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.32. The new research questions whether organic food __________.A. should replace traditional foodB. has been overpriced by farmersC. is grown with less harmful chemicalsD. is really more nutritious and healthier33. Smith-Spangler and her colleagues found that __________.A. organic food could reduce the risk of heart diseaseB. traditional food was grown with more natural methodsC. both organic and traditional food they examined were safeD. there was not a presence of any forms of bacteria in organic food34. Which of the following is relatively healthier according to the passage?A. Organic chicken and pork.B. Organic milk and chicken.C. Traditional chicken and pork.D. Traditional fruit and vegetables.35. What is the author’s attitude toward organic food?A. Skeptical.B. Neutral.C. Unconcerned.D. Approving.第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

On a personal level, reading not only promotes a better understanding of the world and the reader himself, but also facilitates autonomous learning and life-long learning. On a national level, reading enables Chinese people to keep up and spread our culture and traditions so that we can let the world know more about China. To promote the implementation of the policy, the government, organizations and individuals should all be involved. The government is supposed to provide both financial and policy support for the construction of public libraries and other facilities. Organizations should learn more about local people’s reading needs and organize regular reading events. As individuals, we should develop good reading habits. With our joint efforts, the vision of building a nation of readers will become a reality.录音原文:(Text 1)(Text 2)(Text 3)(Text 4)(Text 5)(Text 6)(Text 7)(Text 8)(Text 9)(Text 10)。

If you're only gonna make me a laughingstock!" My mum did not respond.I guess I felt a little bad,but at the same time,I felt so good to have said what I wanted to say.Maybe it was because my mom hadn't punished me,I didn't think that I had hurt her feelings very badly. For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart.Even so,I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty.I told myself that I would become successful in the near future,so I studied very hard.Later I got accepted by the Seoul University,I left my mother and came to Seoul to study. Then I got married there.I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living happily as a successful man.I enjoy the life in Seoul because it's a place that doesn't remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day someone knocked at my door.It was my mom! To this,my mom quietly answered,"Oh,I'm so sorry.I may have gotten the wrong address," and she disappeared out of sight. One day,a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house.Lying to my wife that I was going on a business trip,I went back to participate in the reunion. After the reunion,I wentdown to the old shack, which I used to call a house, just for no reason. There I found my mom lying on the cold ground.I did not shed a single tear. Then a piece of paper in her hand came into my eyes.It was a letter to me.My son,I think my life has been long enough now,and I won't visit Seoul anymore. But would it be too much to ask if I wanted you to come to visit me once in a while?I miss you so much. And I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I decided not to go to the school…for you.I'm so sorry that I only have one eye,and I was an embarrassment for you.You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident and lost your eye.As a mom,I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye.So I gave you mine.I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye.I was never upset at you for anything you did.During the couple of times that you were angry with me,I thought to myself,it's because he loves me.My son…oh,my son…Don't cry for me because of my death.I love you so much.26.What's the writer's purpose of this passage?______A. Others are given money to buy food themselves because they parents are too busy with their own work to spare any time to prepare breakfast for them. In addition, some girls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast.Without having breakfast, many st udents cannot concentrate in class and do badly in their lessons. What’s worse, some students even suffer from stomachache and their health is worrying. In fact, breakfast is the most important meal in a day because it provides our body with much energy. People who have a morning meal tend to take in more vitamins and minerals. Having a proper breakfast not only makes us energetic and healthy but also helps us avoid overeating. So, we should start our day with a regular breakfast.(仅供参考)书面表达评分标准总体原则:本题总分为25分,按5个档次给分。
