Ⅰ. 阅读理解No one enjoys hearing the sound of someone else chewing their food. Most of the time, though, it’s not that big a deal but a minor annoyance. But for a small group of people with misophonia (恐音症), the sound can be painful, causing extreme anger and deep discomfort. The most ordinary sounds of chewing and breathing can drive them crazy. Past attempts to explain the causes of misophonia havesuggested everything from compulsive disorder to an easily-annoyed personality —butaccording to a study published yesterday in the journal Current Biology , the true criminal isthe structure of the brain. For the study, a team of researchers led by Newcastle University neuroscientist Sukhbinder Kumar recruited (招募) 42 volunteers, of whom around half had extrememisophonia and the other half served as the control group, and played them several differentnoises: some ordinary; some harsh, like the sound of a person screaming; and some that wereordinary for the control group but known to be annoying for misophonics, people with misophonia, like the sound of breathing. As the participants listened, the researchers monitored them for signs of anxiety, both physical symptoms and behavioral expressions, and observed their brain activity using FMRI scans. The only significant difference in reaction between the two groups happened, during the misophonia-specific sounds, when those with the condition showed physical changes that suggested they were entering fight-or-flight mode. Misophonics had increased activity in the AIC, an area known to play a central role in the system that determines which things we should pay attention to. When the trigger sounds were played, there was not only more activity in this region but also abnormally high levels of connection to other regions. Misophonia, in other words, may be a result of misplaced attention the brain of a misophonic focuses on things that other people normally tune out (不予理会). On a related note, on behalf of misophonics and manners-minded moms everywhere: Please, chew with your mouth closed. 1. What is the true criminal of misophonia? A. Sounds of chewing and breathing. B. AProfessor Martin’s report says that children who attend a number ofschools, because their parents have to move around the country, probably make slow progress in their studies. There are also signs, says Professor Martin, that an unusually large number of such children are mentally affected. The professor says,“It’s true,my personal feeling is that children should stay in one school. Our feelings are based on research and not on any personal feeling that I or many assistants may have on the subject.”Captain Thomas James,an army lecturer for the past 20 years and himself a father of two, said,“I’ve never heard such rubbish.Taking me for example,no harm is done to the education of my children who change school regularly—if they keep to the same system,as in our Army school. In my experience—and I’ve known quite a few of them—Army children are as well-adjusted(适应)as any others,if not better. What the professor doesn’t appear to appreciate is the fact that in such situations children will adapt(适应)much better than grown-ups.”When this was put to Professor Martin,he said that at no time has his team suggested that all such children were backward or mentally affected in some way,but simply that in their experience there was a clear tendency(倾向).“Our findings show that while the very bright child can deal with regular changes without harming his or her general progress in studies, the majority(大多数)of children suffer from constantly(不断地)having to enter a new learning situation.”1Professor Martin’s report suggests that .A.it may not be good for children to change schools too oftenB.parents should not move around the countryC.children are now making slow progressD.more and more children are mentally affected答案:A解析:推理判断题。
