Definition of Globalization

Globalization is an economic phenomenon which interferes every nation in the world, and world economy is bonded together with multilateral institutions, design, manufacturing and sales. Driven by political pressure and better technology, it has accelerated rapidly in recent decades.(Globalization:Origion, development and impact, YangBoxu)

History of Globalization

Nowadays, most people, to some extent, have accepted the combination of culture and life, since globalization is not a new concept to human beings. Globalization is a historical process, which can be traced back to ancient China. For thousands of years, people and corporations have been buying from and selling to each other in lands from far away, such as the famous Silk Road across Central Asia that connected China and Europe during the middle ages. In Xihan, Zhang Qian visited the region in the northwest of China and other countries in the Mediterranean. Trade caravans carried silk to the northwest. Besides, in the early Ming Dynasty, Zheng He voyaged down the west ocean under order. This navigation was beneficial to China’s development and contributed to the politic, economic and cultural relationships of every country in Asia. In my opinion, the initial economic globalization is exchanging goods, which can be called trade in early time.

Impact of Globalization

Superficially, economic globalization seems to be too microscopical to concern to individuals; however, substantially, it influences everyone's life in very subtle ways.

Firstly, the better technology promotes globalization, conversely, globalization compels enterprises to update their technologies to adapt to the competitive circumstances. Thus, for common people, we must hold a far-sight that we have to improve our abilities and learn more knowledge in order that we are able to realize our values when combating with others.

Secondly, globalization has materialized through many ways. One of the most obvious ways is multilateral institutions. Such institution, like WTO and EU, make the trade liberalization come true in several specific areas. Therefore, companies in these areas( such as France, German and Italy) can benefit from the half or non tariffs, somewhat, it leads to lower costs. Then more profits can be made, so workers from these countries can get considerable bonus to improve their living standards. Another way is that people from different countries can have more interaction with each other in a unified economic zone. Take EU as a case, EU combined with 25 European countries , has materialized their relentless pursuit for the single market, what's more, commercial activities can be hold disregarding borders. The united economy enables people in different countries to communicate more, so people have more choices for their future careers.

Thirdly, as the economy is developing, there spings up an overwhelming number of netizens. Millions of media buffs now use blogs, wikis, chat rooms, and personal broadcasting to add their voices to a stream of dialogue and debate on social phenomenon, such as WenZhang’s scandal, the Malaysia aircraft accident. The news travels itself without stop, just like the non-stoping clock hand.

But globalization also causes some negative effects to common people. Globalization makes the world economy increasingly bond together. We benefit from it as well as we share risks together. for example, during the Depression in the US, from 1929to1933, it caused thousands of workers to lost their jobs and numerous people died of starving, which indicates that facing the inevitable risks
