Tense markers
The present continuous tense is usually accompanied by the auxiliary verb "be" (e.g., "I am running") and uses the present participle "-ing" form of the verb. The present simple tense, on the other hand, does not require "be" and uses the basic form of the verb.

Formation: The negative form is formed by placing "not" before the helping verb "be" (or "am," "is," "are," "was," or "were" depending on the subject) and the present participle of the verb. For instance, "They are not playing" is the negative form of "They are playing."
