When I decided to quit my job as a wedding photographer, I was in my late twenties, fresh from my divorce from Bob who had left me empty and confused. I decided to leave the US and travel. I had no savings, plus more than $5,000 in debt. What I did have were two sponsored tasks as a travel photographer- and with that along, I thought, it would be easy.My first experience was a road trip from Toronto to Las Vegas, paid for by a car delivery service. Other trips followed and then I started a travel blog (博客). It was intended to be my calling card for assignment travel photography. Yet even with my blog and past experience, email after email I sent to publications, trying to get work, went unanswered. When they did get in touch, editors told me that I had no chance of making a career with travel photography. While I struggled to get on the path that I wanted, and as I expanded my blog to help get me there, I found myself wearing the hat of a full-time blogger.Luckily, I got in at the right time. It was 2010,and the travel industry was just starting to turn its attention to bloggers. As I never could have predicted, my blogging-not my photography-did take me around the world successfully. At first,I thought it was for personal reasons, but I realized later that it was for free marketing for my blogging.Within two years, I was being asked to speak at travel blogging conferences, which helped me to raise a network of friends around the world. Even more meaningful, however, was when I saw that my travels were also helping other people. My blog and social media followers saw that I chased my dreams and told me over and over again how they needed that kind of example, which was absent in their lives elsewhere.51 After the author quit her job, she decided to ______.A. divorce her husbandB. be a wedding photographerC. pay off all her debtD. go travelling abroad2. 2016高考满分英语作文1. I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, a gentle reminder that a new day had begun. The sun was already shining brightly, promising warmth and endless possibilities. I couldn't help but feel grateful for another chance to make the most of my time on thisbeautiful planet.2. As I sat down to have breakfast, I couldn't help but marvel at the simple pleasure of a hot cup of coffee and a freshly baked croissant. The aroma of the coffee filled the room, awakening my senses and putting a smile on my face. Sometimes, it's the little things in life that bring us the most joy.3. Walking down the street, I couldn't help but notice the hustle and bustle of the city around me. People rushing to work, cars honking impatiently, and the occasionalstreet performer adding a touch of music to the chaos. It was a reminder that life is constantly moving, and we mustlearn to keep up with its pace.4. Meeting up with friends later in the day, I was reminded of the importance of human connection. Laughter, shared stories, and the comfort of knowing that you are not alone in this world. It's moments like these that make life worth living, that remind us of the beauty of friendship and companionship.5. As the day came to a close, I found myselfreflecting on the events that had transpired. The ups and downs, the surprises and disappointments, all part of the rich tapestry of life. And as I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experiences that had shaped me, for the people who had touched my heart, and for the endless possibilities that tomorrow would bring. Life truly is a beautiful journey.。

Our body clock,or natural body rhythm, influences our energy and alertness.Paying attention to it can help us choose the suitable time of day when we best perform specific tasks. The reality, however,is that most of us organize their time around work demands, school deadlines, commuting or social events.Doing whatever your body feels like doing is a luxury in today's fast-paced modem society. But that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying.Obeying our body clock has significant health benefits.Disrupting our natural body rhythm,on the other hand, has been linked to problems such as depression, obesity,or headache, says Steve Key,a biology professor. When the body clock can synchronize(使……同步)the rhythms of its natural processes,it “gives us an advantage in daily life”,says Key.According to him, when it comes to cognitive(认知的)work, most adults perform best in the late morning. As our body temperature starts to rise just before awakening in the morning and continues to increase until midday, our memory, alertness and concentration gradually improve. However,he adds, our ability to concentrate typically starts to decrease soon thereafter. Most of us are more easily distracted(分心)between noon and 4 pm.Alertness also tends to fall after eating a meal and sleepiness tends to peak around 2 pm,making that a good time for a nap.Surprisingly, tiredness may increase our creative powers. For most adults, problems that require open ended thinking are often best dealt with in the evening when they are tired, according to a study in the journal Thinking & Reasoning. When choosing a time of day to exercise, paying attention to your body clock can improve results.Physical performance is usually best from about 3 to 6 pm,says Michael Smolensky,a professor of biomedical engineering.Of course, not everyone's body clock is the same, making it even harder to synchronize natural rhythms with daily plans.1.If we know our natural body rhythm well, we can .A.find out the suitable time to do specific tasksB.organize our time around work demandsC.do whatever our body feels like doingD.be sure to be healthy2.Which of the following is NOT true?A.Our alertness is influenced by our natural body rhythmB.Doing whatever your body feels like is very difficult in our modem society.C.Obeying our body clock is good for our health.D.Disrupting our natural body rhythm can lead to obesity.3.According to Steve Key,which of the following is NOT true?A.When our body clock synchronizes the rhythms of its natural processes,we can do better.B.When it comes to cognitive(认知的)work, most people perform best in the late morning.C.As body temperature rises before awakening in the morning, our concentration gradually improves.D.We concentrate better in the late morning than between noon and 4 pm.4.Inspiration(灵感)to solve a difficult problem will most probably come to us .A.when we get up in the morningB.when we are tired in the eveningC.when we are full of energy in the late morningD.when we are asleep at night5.Which of the following can be the suitable title for the passage?A.What is natural body rhythm?B.Natural body rhythm is good for us.C.Something about natural body rhythm.D.The latest research about natural body rhythm.【参考答案】1---5 ADBBC阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。

America is growing older. Fifty years ago, only 4 out of every 100 people in the United States were 65 or older. Today, 10 out of every 100 Americans are over 65. The aging of the population will affect American society in many ways — education, medicine, and business. Quietly, the aging of America has made us a very different society —one in which people have a quite different idea of what kind of behavior is suitable at various ages.A person’s age no longer tells you anything about his/ her social position, marriage or health. There’s no longer a particular year in which one goes to school or goes to work or gets married or starts a family. The social clock that kept us on time and told us when to go to school, get a job, or stop work ing isn’t as strong as it used to be. It doesn’t surprise us to hear of a 29-year-old university president or a 35-year-old grandmother, or a 70-year-old man who has become a father for the first time. Public ideas are changing. Many people say, “I am much younger than my mother or my father was at my age.” No one says “Act your age” any more. We’ve stopped looking with surprise at older people who act in youthful ways.1. It can be learned from the text that the aging of the population in America ________.A. has made people feel youngerB. has changed people’s social positionC. has changed people’s understanding of ageD. has slowed down the country’s social development2. The und erlined word “one” refers to ________.A. a societyB. AmericaC. a placeD. population3. “Act your age” means people should ________.A. be active when they are oldB. do the right thing at the right ageC. show respect to their parents young or oldD. take more physical exercises suitable to their age4. If a’ 25-year-old man becomes general manager of a big firm, the writer of the text would most probably consider it _________.A. normalB. wonderfulC. unbelievableD. unreasonable【参考答案及解析】1. C 主旨题。

What is so amazing about giving blood? The National Blood Service, which covers all of England and North Wales, needs nearly two and a half million blood donations each year. When you give blood, you’ll be doing one of the most amazing things anybody could dream of — saving a life.___________________________All types of blood are needed —not just rare ones. A fter a short rest, a drink and biscuits, you’ll be up and ready to go. All equipment used in the collection of your blood is new and is never reused, so you don’t have to worry about risks to your health in the collection of your blood.Who can become a blood donor?Becoming a blood donor really is very simple. A s long as you’re in good health and aged between 17 and 60, you can become a blood donor. Businesses are witnessing a difficult time, which has in turn produced influence on consumers’ desire to go green. However, shoppers are still laying stress on environmental concerns. Two thirds of customers say that environmental considerations inform their purchases to the same degree as they did a year ago, while more than a quarter say that they are now even better aware of the environmental effect on what they buy. This may help to influence how shops store goods on their shelves. And the companies should still make efforts to become more environmentally friendly. Two out of three people think it is important to buy from environmentally responsible companies, with about one in seven saying that they had even decided to take their custom elsewhere if they felt a company’s environmental reputation was not good enough.Harry Morrison, chief executive (主管) of the Carbon Trust, sympathizes: “I understand this situation where survival is very important now. But f rom environmental considerations, the clock is ticking—we don’t have much time. In addition, cutting carbon has an immediate effect as costs drop and a medium-term benefit for the brand.”Larger companies have an extra motivation to look at reducing their carbon footprint, as new rules next year will require businesses to buy carbon allowances to make up for their emissions (排放). Those that have taken early action will have a head start. More than two thirds of consumers are not clear about which companies are environmentally responsible. This suggests that firms that are able to relay clearly their message to the public will be in a pole position to attract shoppers. The Carbon Trust believes that it can help by informing customers about the good work companies are doing. “When companies are granted (授予) the standard, they can use a logo (标识) in all their marketing which makes it clear that they are working towardscutting emissions,” Mr. Morrison said.1. What’s the main idea of the passage?A. Businesses are finding ways to send their message to the shoppers.B. Companies will soon get information about cutting carbon emissions.C. Firms are making efforts to encourage customers to keep goods at home.D. Firms are urged to cut carbon emissions by shoppers’ environmental awareness.2. The underlined word “inform” in Paragraph 2 probably means“”.A. affectB. changeC. disturbD. reject3. According to Harry Morrison, businesses .A. will benefit from cutting carbon emissionsB. should buy carbon allowances for shoppersC. are required to make up for their carbon emissionsD. have encouraged shoppers to take their custom elsewhere4. We can learn from the passage that businesses will .A. have a strong desire to reduce costsB. use the same logo in their marketingC. gain advantages by taking early actionD. attract more shoppers by storing goods【参考答案】1-4 DAAC阅读理解。

体裁:议论文话题:历史故事时间:6分钟The movies just wouldn't be the same without the warm buttery taste of popcorn.Amazingly, this delicious treat started its life as a corn kernel(玉米粒)—and not from just any corn.Popcorn is a type of sweet corn that was originally grown in Mexico and spread to China,India and elsewhere. It is the only kind of corn that will pop.Today, most of the world's popcorn is grown in the United States.Every popcorn kernel contains a tiny drop of water, surrounded by soft starch(淀粉).When the popcorn is heated, the water turns into steam. This puts pressure on the surrounding hard kernel, forcing it to explode. The soft starch increases about 40 times in size as the corn kernel turns itself inside out.In the 1500s popcorn was an important food source for the Aztec Indians of central and southern Mexico. But it wasn't only food.It was also used in ceremonies or in headdresses and necklaces.By the time the Europeans arrived in America, popcorn had spread through most of the American Indians. Some early American settlers ate popcorn with cream and sugar for breakfast. But it wasn't until the late 1800s that popcorn became popular. The demand for popcorn increased and farmers began farming popcorn. The first mobile popping machine was invented in 1885,and popcorn was sold by street sellers much like hot dogs are sold today.During the Great Depression of the 1930s,the popcorn business still thrived as people could still afford it.Then in the 1950s television arrived and popcorn consumption decreased.People stayed home and stopped going to the theatre. But the link between movies and popcorn had already existed.Soon people began making popcorn at home on the ter, microwave popcorn was introduced.Today the movies have regained popularity and popcorn has once again become the favorite.【语篇导读】没有温热香甜的爆米花,电影似乎也会失去味道吧。

Ladies and gentlemen,Now I would like to tell you how I learn English writing. That’s all.

The Maldives faces the threat of extinction from rising sea levels, but the government said on Thursday it was looking to the future with plans to build homes and a golf course that float. An increase in sea levels of just 18 to 59 centimeters would make the Maldives—a nation of tiny coral islands in the Indian Ocean—virtually uninhabitable by 2100, the UN’s climate change panel has warned.President Mohamed Nasheed has vowed a fight for survival, and last month he signed a deal with a Dutch company to study proposals for a floating structure that could support a conference centre, homes and an 18-hole golf course.“It is still early stages and we are awaiting a report on the practicality,” a government official who declined to be named said. The company, Dutch Docklands, is currently building floating developments in the Netherlands and Dubai. There was no immediate comment from the firm but its website said it undertook projects th at make “land from water by providing large-scale floating constructions to create similar conditions as on land”.The Maldives began to work on an artificial island known as the Hulhumale near the crowded capital island of Male in 1997 and more than 30,000 people have been settled there to ease congestion. The city, which has a population of 100,000, is already protected from rising sea levels by a 30-million-dollar sea wall, and the government is considering increasingly imaginative ways to combat climate change.Nasheed, who staged the world’s first underwater cabinet meeting in October to highlight his people’s serious and difficult situation, has even spoken of buying land elsewhere in the world to enable Maldivians to relocate if their homes arecompleted covered. He has also promised to turn his nation into a model for the rest of the world by becoming “carbon neutral” by 2020. His plan involves ending fossil fuel use and powering all vehicles and buildings from “green” sources such as burning coco nut husks.1. Why do you think Mohamed Nasheed chose Dutch Docklands?A.
