It's like a flower.". If you fall in love with a flower growing on a star, then at night you look at the sky and feel sweet and happy, and all the stars seem to be in bloom."When I first read "Little Prince", I was attracted by his fresh writing style and pure world at high school. Now six years later, read the "Little Prince", can not help but again and again to tears, and palpitation for Prince's mind be sad, moved by his pure and persistent love, for his innocence and mourning gradually to disappear. As the author of St. Erik Marcus Paley said in the preface, he put the fairy tale "to Leon? Wirth, when he was a boy"This is an adult fairy tale, which belongs to the once innocence adult's fairy tale, the children can not understand the little prince biting sadness and heavy. They should not be aware of this too early. They should enjoy a good time in a sunny world. It is not so much a fairy tale, but a tragedy. The hero in the fairy tale always looks like snow white or Cinderella, and lives happily. The little prince was sad to see that in the meaning of love after death in the desert. The plot of the novel is very simple, mainly from the "I" point of view about the prince's journey. For a beautiful and fragile rose, the little prince left has been a quiet life of the B-612 small swimming star, he has traveled six planet in the planet, he encountered some he felt very unreasonable than adults, proud as Lucifer king, mad about money merchants, pedantic lamplighter...... So he continued to sigh, "adults' world is really strange."." Here the author of the little prince child's eyes, see these people's empty, blind and foolish, as a adult lonely, no one can follow the situation. At last he came to earth. Here he met a fox, the fox to he solved that one fragile little rose brought him to love the doubts, make him understand, love means responsibility, compassion means, with love(generalized love) in the life all have meaning. The fox told him: "for you to tame things, you always have the responsibility. Do your duty to your rose." "If you make me tame, my life will be full of sunshine, cheerful. I'm going to hear a different kind of footsteps....... You have blond hair, so once you make me tame, it will become the golden wheat will be too wonderful for words! Reminds me of you. I will love the wind through the wheat......" Love makes man understand sorrow and sorrow, and at the same time makes man free from loneliness and make life full of spice and meaning. Just as the little prince said to me, "it's like a flower.". If you fall in love with a flower growing on a star, then at night you look at the sky and feel sweet and happy, and all the stars seem to be in bloom." So the author knew that it was no big deal for a sheep to eat a flower in the world, but for the little prince, it was like all the stars were extinguished in an instant."Finally, the little prince left his planet in 1st anniversary on the occasion, let the poisonous snake him, so he can get rid of the weight of the body, back to the B-612 small swimming star back to his pride andfragile rose side. The little prince was gone, like a little match girl, flying to the world where his grandmother was without cold and hunger, and he ran to his eternal love. The world was left with only the golden wheat fields and the insignificant roses of a garden. And we cry in vain. And we like to be tame fox, to miss the little prince in the golden hair. Because the little prince, I believe that the desert indeed hiding wells, because the little prince he heard voices in the wind in the desert, and drink that beautiful spring.

This story tells the story of the hero accidentally accidentally drifting to London, Londons two billionaire brothers made a bet. Elder brother think if you give him a $one million pounds, 30 days later he will be unable to prove that the money is his own and starved to death, and the younger brother is think he will live very well. So they gave a piece of millions of pounds to Henry, their two people to travel abroad for 30 days. And because of this piece of pounds to improve social status, and finally arrived in addition to the royal family of the supremacy of the duke of, ismarried to a beautiful wife, received thirty thousand yuan bank interest. And got good jobs from brother, lived a happy life.Ive realized people for the money, try very hard to bring one person, to the bow, and all aspects from obedience to him and arranged everything in place, just for the money. To have no money people, rude, arrogant to the rich people, honestly. It makes me feel very angry, everything should be equal, and these people have only value money, as long as the rich man will treat him very well, but have no money will be arrogant rude. Everyone is equal the reasonable use where go to?In our life, but also often have such a thing, everyone cried out, should be equal, but see the rich man, but the lack of one by one all, just want to get more money, earn a little more, I dont think this is a very vital qi, I hope everyone can, put the correct injustices in the city!
The White Death" by Jack London is a gripping and atmospheric short story that explores the themes of survival, isolation, and the relentless power of nature. The story follows the journey of two gold prospectors, Mason and Ruth, as they traverse the treacherous Yukon wilderness during the unforgiving winter months. As they navigate through treacherous ice fields and freezing temperatures, they encounter the titular "white death" –the brutal cold that threatens to consume them both.London's vivid prose paints a chilling portrait of the unforgiving landscape and the psychological toll it takes on Mason and Ruth. The isolation and loneliness they experience amplifies their fears and desperation, driving them to the brink of madness.Through a series of harrowing encounters with wolves, hallucinations, and near-death experiences, Mason andRuth's resolve is tested to its limits. They must confront their own mortality and grapple with the profound solitude that surrounds them.Ultimately, the story serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of human life and the indomitable spirit that resides within us. Despite the overwhelming odds, Mason and Ruth display unwavering determination and resilience, proving that even in the face of adversity, hope can prevail.

As a renowned author of short stories, O. Henry has captured the hearts of many readers with his distinctive style of storytelling. In his collection of short stories titled "Selected Short Stories by O. Henry", Henry presents a unique view of life, full of twists and turns that often leave the reader with a sense of surprise and wonder. One of the stories in the book that stood out for me was "The Gift of the Magi". It tells of a young couple, Jim and Della, who are struggling financially but wish to give each other meaningful Christmas gifts. Unbeknownst to each other, Jim sells his precious pocket watch to buy Della a set of combs for her beautiful hair, while Della cuts her long locks and sells them to buy Jim a chain for his pocket watch.Henry's storytelling in this story is masterful, building up the tension as the two characters prepare for their gifts exchange, and culminating in a heartwarming ending that leaves the reader with a sense of joy and admiration for the couple's love and sacrifice for each other.Another story that I enjoyed is "The Last Leaf". It tells of two young women, Sue and Johnsy, who live in an apartment at the top of a building. Johnsy contracts pneumonia and becomes convinced that she will die when the last leaf falls from a vine outside her window. As the days go by and the leaves fall one by one, Sue calls on a neighbor to create a painting of a leaf on the wall to deceive Johnsy and bring her hope. Eventually, Johnsy recovers, and the two women discover that the leaf outside their window wasreal and had not fallen, serving as a symbol of hope and resilience. What impresses me most about "The Last Leaf" is the emotional depth that Henry is able to convey in such a short story. The character of Johnsy, in particular, is well written, and the reader feels her fear and desperation as she clings to the belief that she is going to die. The story also explores themes of friendship, hope, and the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity.Lastly, "A Retrieved Reformation" is a story that highlights Henry's skills in plot development and characterization. The story portrays the character of Jimmy Valentine, a skilled safe-cracker, who is released from prison after serving ten years. He adopts a new identity and tries to turn over a new leaf but is drawn back to his old ways when he learns that his love interest's father is locked inside a safe that he cannot open. The twist in this story comes when Jimmy, instead of using his skills to open the safe and steal from it, instead decides to use his expertise to save the man's life. Through this act of altruism, Jimmy is able to redeem himself and start a new life, leaving his criminal past behind. In conclusion, O. Henry's "Selected Short Stories" is an excellent collection that showcases his unique style of storytelling. The stories are each unique and have a timeless quality that speaks to their universal themes and relatable characters. I highly recommend this book to any reader looking for a great short story collection.。
Oscar Wilde's short story "The Happy Prince" is a moving and thought-provoking tale that explores themes of selflessness, compassion, and the true meaning of happiness. This time I want to talk about a very famous short story written by Mark Twain---------“The Million Pound Note”。
Referring to Mark Twain, you must feel familiar, because we must have read his works before. I still remember the article“The Bite Events on the Train”in our textbook when I’m in the middle school. What touched me most at that time were his ironic words. Yes, he is a great humorist, novelist, writer and orator in America in nineteenth century. During his 40 years’ writing career, he created dozens of short or long stories. This story tells about a poor but honest American Adam Henry. When he was wandering in the street of London, he was given by two billionaires a letter, in which he surprisedly found a £1,000,000 pound bank-note. Later he got to know that the two billionaires who were brothers had made a bet about the results after he got a one million-pound note at once. One of them thought the note wound count for nothing to the poor man because he could not prove that the money was his own while the other considered just as the opposite.Dramatically, the plot went just out of my expectation. Herry went to a restaurant to have dinner first. The manager was mean to him at the beginning but his attitude changed quickly when Herry took out the note and asked for change. Faced with a millionaire, the manager apologized again and again and obsequiously told Herry that he didn’t need to pay for the bill right now. So Herry managed to have a free dinner. Then similarly, Herry went to a clothing shop and got a suit of clothes costing him nothing.Like the plot above, people are curious of such a rich man and tried every means to cozy up to him, from free food, free clothes to free accommodation. At the same time, his social status was becoming higher and higher and finally higher than most dukes. Apart from that, he later got a beautiful wife and 200,000 pounds of bank interest. I can imagine a bright future was waiting for him.The writing style of this story is so humorous. Mark Twain used hyperbole describing how our hero defeated snobbishness repeatedly. What I appreciate most is the detailed description of different people’s ridiculous actions before one million pounds, vivid, funny, ironic and humorous, which forms a Caricature. In terms of the theme, it is apparent that the author wanted to denounce the overflowing mammonism in the society. Even now it gives us an impressive lesson. Yes, I cannot deny the importance of money to a person who wants to survive. We won’t live without money, with which we get food, clothes, house and many other necessities. But we must know that there are many things which can’t be bought with money such as love or friendship. So in my opinion, money may be important to us, but not the most important. We need to build up the correct sense of money. To sum up, this story is a really good work of Mark Twain. The lesson I’ve learnt from it makes me want to be an honest man sincerely and lets me not to worship money too much.

As I finished reading the short stories of O. Henry, I was left with a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, the simplistic language and easy-to-follow plots were a welcome respite from the gripping suspense and complex characters that I was used to. On the other hand, I realized the incredible power of O. Henry in conveying profound messages in such a light-hearted way.It is fascinating to note how all his short stories are interwovenwith surprise endings, which are both ingenious and unexpected. One of the most memorable stories, “The Gift of the Magi” is a perfect example of how his writing can touch the reader and evoke strong emotions. The themes of love, sacrifice, and selflessness are exceptionally portrayed in the story of a young couple who sadly miss getting each other the perfect gift in their attempts to show their love for one another. The gift, however, was not the most valuable thing they had to offer and the conclusion of the story, as always in O. Henry’s fashion, leaves the reader smiling and appreciative of the meaning behind the tale.Another story that stood out for me was “The Cop and the Anthem.” The protagonist being a homeless, well-dressed man who tries his best to get arrested and jailed during the winter season when the nights are harsh and frosty, desperate for a warm bed and three meals a day. The story goes on with the main character's countless attempts to break the law, all of which are immediately dismissed by the police authorities. Finally, as he sits on a bench shivering in the cold, a church bell rings in the distance, and he is struck withan overwhelming urge to become a good, productive member of society. The story highlights the desperation and despair of thehomeless people in the early 20th century and the lengths they had to go to secure basic needs like food and shelter.Overall, what makes O. Henry’s short stories so memorable and unique is his ability to present deep human emotions and experiences through casual and relaxed writing. All the stories are permeated with a touch of humor, insight, and wisdom, which makes them highly relatable and enjoyable. It is easy to see why O. Henry is considered one of the great American short story writers, and the selected pieces of his work that I read have done nothing but cement that opinion in my mind.O. Henry's stories also offer a glimpse into early 20th-century America, with its bustling cities and distinct social classes. His characters, whether they are struggling artists, gamblers, or street vendors, represent the diverse makeup of American society. Through his simple yet lyrical prose style, O. Henry captures the unique rhythms and cadences of American English, making his stories even more accessible and enjoyable. Many of his stories also explore the themes of deception and betrayal, with characters often leading double lives or tricking others for personal gain. In "The Last Leaf," for instance, we see an elderly artist deceive her neighbor into believing that a falling leaf is the harbinger of her impending death. But in the end, it is the artist who sacrifices herself for the sake of her neighbor's health. Such clever twists and turns in O. Henry's tales make them all the more gripping and memorable.A notable feature of O. Henry's stories is his use of dialogue, which is often humorous and quirky. He portrays his characterswith unusual mannerisms and quirks, making them instantly recognizable and endearing to readers. His stories are also well-known for their symbolism and allegory, particularly in their depiction of the American Dream and individualism. In conclusion, O. Henry's short stories offer a unique window into early 20th-century America, capturing the hopes, struggles, and aspirations of its people. His writing style is accessible, often humorous, and always heartwarming. Whether it's the touching tale of the "The Gift of the Magi" or the poignant narrative of "The Cop and the Anthem," O. Henry's stories will continue to inspire and engage readers for generations to come.。
