1. The Force of HabitsHabits, whether good or bad, are gradually formed. The more we do a thing, the more we tend to like doing it; and if we do not continue to do it, we feel unxxfortable. This is called the force of habits, and the force of habits should be fought against. This applies even to such good things as work or rest. Some people form a bad habit of working too much, and others of idling too much. Bad habits, once formed, are difficult to get rid of.The wise man always remembers to check any bad habit. He warns himself “I am now bexxing idle” or “I like too many sweets” or “I smoke too much”. And then adds, “I will get myself out of this bad habit at once.”

It looks poorest when you are richest. The faultfinder will find faults in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace. The town's poor seem to me often to live the most independent lives of any. May be they are simply great enough to receive without misgiving. Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means. Which should be more disreputable. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends, Turn the old, return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.【篇⼆】适合英语朗读的段落精选 A Smile is A Gift That Anyone Can Give It costs nothing, but saves much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash, and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich that he can get along without it; none so poor that he is not enriched by it. It creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sick, and nature's best antidote for trouble. It cannot be bought, borrowed, or stolen, for it is no earthly good to anyone until it is given away. If you meet someone too burdened with grief or worry to smile, just give him one of yours. For nobody needs a smile so much as he who has none left to give.【篇三】适合英语朗读的段落精选 Nothing succeeds lacks confidence. When you are truly and justifiably confident, it radiates from you like sunlight, and attracts success to you like a magnet. It's important to believe in yourself. Believe that you can do it under any circumstances, because if you believe you can, then you really will. The belief keeps you searching for answers, which means that pretty soon you will get them. Confidence is more than an attitude. It comes from knowing exactly where you are going and exactly how you are going to get there. It comes from acting with integrity and confidence. It comes from a strong sense of purpose. It comes from a strong commitment to take responsibility, rather than just letting life happen. One way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and to get a record of successful experiences behind you. Confidence is compassionate and understanding. It is not arrogant. Arrogance is born out of fear and insecurity, while confidence comes from strength and integrity. Confidence is not just believing you can do it. Confidence is knowing you can do it.Know that you are capable of accomplishing anything you want, and live your life with confidence. Anything can be achieved through focused, determined effort and self-confidence. If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power to change it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis. Live your priorities. Live with your goals and your plan of action. Live each moment with your priorities in mind. Act with your own purpose, and you will have the life you want.【篇四】适合英语朗读的段落精选 The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seemed to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it‘s time for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.。

"I wasn’t watching," he said.Louise sighed."I’ll have to clean this up fast.Father and Mother will be home soon. They are just across the street."She filled a pail with soap and water. Then she got the mop and the sponge.Lionel watched her. He knew how Louise must feel. It was not a good feeling."I’ll help you," he said."Really?" said Louise. "Thanks. I’ll do the kitchen. You start in the hall."Lionel scrubbed the carpet. The footprints spread into brown smudges. Lionel rubbed harder. The smudges got bigger.Louise finished in the kitchen. She came out to see how Lionel was doing."Arrrgh!" she screamed."Well, I’m not done yet," said Lionel."I can see that," said Louise. She took the sponge from Lionel. Then she rubbed really hard. She squeezed the dirty sponge into the pail again and again.Lionel got fresh water from the kitchen three times. When they finished the last footprint, Louise let out a deep sigh. Then she turned around. "Oh no!" she cried. "Look at the wall!"Lionel looked. His fingerprints were everywhere." I’ll get more water," he said quickly."No, no," said Louise. "Don’t move."She ran for some towels and fresh water. Then she scrubbed and cleaned and scrubbed some more.Lionel held the dirty towels. Finally she was done. Louise slumped into a chair."Where should I put the towels?" Lionel asked." I’ll take them," said Louise."Why don’t you go out and play?""Are you sure?" Lionel asked.Louise nodded. "I’m sure.I’m positive! Thanks for your help, Lionel. But, please…Go!" "Okay," he said.He was glad he had helped Louise. Maybe he would try it more often.。

1A Day at the ZooHi there! My name is Emily and I'm 10 years old. I want to tell you all about my amazing day at the zoo last weekend. It was the best day ever!On Saturday morning, my mom woke me up really early. I was kinda grumpy at first because who likes getting up before the sun? But then she told me we were going to the zoo and I got super excited! I love animals, especially the big furry ones like lions and bears. We had a quick breakfast of cereal and orange juice, and then we were off. Dad drove us to the zoo which is on the other side of the city. The drive took forever but I didn't mind because I was daydreaming about all the cool animals I would get to see. Finally, we arrived and I could hardly contain my excitement. The zoo entrance had this huge elephant statue that was taller than a tree! We bought our tickets and went inside. The firstthing we saw was the bird sanctuary. There were so many pretty birds with bright feathers flying around. I saw toucans, macaws, flamingos and even a funny-looking bird called a shoebill stork. It looked like it was wearing a giant shoe for a beak!Next, we walked over to the big cat area. That's where they keep the lions, tigers, leopards and other fierce felines. The lions were so majestic, just lounging around in the sun. But then one of them let out this incredible roar that made me jump! The tiger was pacing back and forth, looking very sleek and dangerous. I wouldn't want to meet one of those in a dark alley! After the big cats, we went to see the apes and monkeys. They were hilarious, swinging from branch to branch and making funny noises. My favorite was the orangutan - it looked so silly with its long arms and furry orange hair. One of the chimps started picking its nose and then ate it! Gross, but also kinda funny. For lunch, we had hot dogs and fries at a little restaurant inside the zoo. I got ketchup all over my face because I was eating too fast. I was just so excited to get back and see more animals! In the afternoon, we saw the bears, both polar bears and grizzly bears. The polar bear was splashing around in a big poolof water which looked really refreshing on such a hot day. The grizzly bear was napping and letting out these funny snoring sounds. I wouldn't want to wake him up, that's for sure! Finally, we went to see the elephants, giraffes and zebras in the African safari area. The baby elephant was sooo cute, following its mom around and using its trunk like a little snorkel in the water. The giraffes had the longest necks and tongues I've ever seen - one of them actually licked my face with its giant purple tongue! And the zebras were beautiful with their black and white stripes.By the end of the day, my feet were sore from all the walking but I had the biggest smile on my face. We stopped at the gift shop on the way out and I got a stuffed lion that I named Leo. I can't wait to go back to the zoo again someday. It was the best day ever!篇2Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 6th grader at Beijing Elementary School. Today I want to tell you all about my daily life and what a typical day is like for me.I wake up pretty early, around 6:30am, because I have to get ready for school. My mom makes me a healthy breakfast, usuallysome congee with vegetables or an egg sandwich. I don't like to skip breakfast because then I feel really tired at school. At 7:30am, I leave for school. My dad drives me most days, but sometimes I take the school bus if he has an early meeting at work. The drive to school takes about 20 minutes because there's a lot of traffic in the mornings. I really enjoy listening to music or an audiobook in the car to pass the time.My first class starts at 8:15am. We have lots of different subjects like math, Chinese, English, science, and history. My favorite is probably English because I find learning another language super interesting and fun! We get a short break at10am where we can have a snack and play outside for 15 minutes. After the morning classes, we have lunch in the cafeteria at 11:45am. The food is pretty good - they have different options like noodles, rice dishes, and vegetables. My friends and I like to trade food sometimes to try new things. In the afternoon from 1pm to 4pm, we have more classes like art, music, and P.E. P.E. is my least favorite because I'm not very athletic or coordinated. But I know it's important to exercise and stay active. Art class is really enjoyable for me since I love painting and being creative.Once school is over at 4pm, I head home and have a little free time before starting homework. I'll watch some TV, play outside, or read for fun. Having some downtime helps me recharge after a long day.I start my homework around 5:30pm. I have assignments for almost every subject, so it takes me a couple of hours to get through it all. Sometimes I get frustrated when there's a lot of work, but my parents remind me that it's important to develop good study habits. We have family dinner at 7:30pm. My mom is an amazing cook and always makes really delicious homemade Chinese dishes. We'll talk about our days and my parents ask me how things are going at school. Having that family time is one of my favorite parts of the day. After dinner around 8:30pm, I relax by watching a show or playing games on my tablet. I try not to use too much screen time though, so I'll also read books, draw, or play board games sometimes. My parents make me start getting ready for bed at 9pm.I go to sleep around 9:30pm so I can be well-rested for the next day. Even though I'm just a kid, I stay pretty busy with school, activities, homework, and more. But I know it's importantto work hard now so I can have opportunities later on. I feel very lucky to be able to get a good education. That's a typical day in my life! Being a 6th grader in Beijing keeps me busy for sure, but I really appreciate all the chances I have to learn and grow. Thanks for listening, and let me know if you have any other questions!篇3Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I go to Beida Elementary School here in Beijing. Today I want to tell you all about my summer vacation last year. It was the best summer ever!It started off with a big family trip. My mom, dad, little brother Tao, and I went to Hainan Island down in the very south of China. We stayed at this awesome beach resort with a huge pool, waterslides, and everything! The beach itself was beautiful with soft white sand and bright blue ocean water. I spent hours every day swimming, building sandcastles, and looking for little crabs and shells. One of the coolest things we did was go snorkeling. We all got to wear masks and tubes to breathe underwater and see the coral reefs and tropical fish up close. There were so many colors -bright yellow fish, striped purple ones, even some that were almost transparent! I saw a sea turtle which was incredible. Tao got a little scared at first being underwater but then he loved watching the fish swim all around us.Another day, we went on a boat tour around the island. The guide told us all about the history of Hainan and how it used to be underwater millions of years ago. We saw these huge rock formations sticking up out of the ocean that used to be ancient mountains! We also got to stop at a little fishing village and I tried my first-ever fresh coconut drink straight from a coconut. It was so delicious and refreshing on such a hot day. After a week in Hainan, we travelled to my grandparents' hometown of Xi'an to visit them for a few days. That's where my dad grew up. I love going there because the city is full of such cool history. We always visit these incredible terracotta warrior statues that were buried underground for over 2000 years before being discovered! Can you imagine that? Thousands of life-sized soldier sculptures all standing at attention. My mind was blown thinking about how long they had been there. My grandparents live in a traditional courtyard house in the Muslim Quarter neighborhood. That's where my grandpa's ancestors are from. The narrow streets are packed with tinyshops, markets, and restaurants. Everything smells so good from all the street food - skewers of lamb kebabs, warm naan bread, and my favorite - hand-pulled noodles! You can watch the chefs stretching and twisting the dough into long noodles right in front of you. I tried making them myself but it's much harder than it looks! One night we went to this amazing fountain show at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It's this gigantic historic pagoda that's been around for over 1300 years! The show combined lights, music, water fountains, and even fire at some points. The water would dance and change colors in time to traditional Chinese music playing. The grand finale featured the whole pagoda appearing to be on fire with bright red and orange light projections. It looked like a burning torch against the night sky. So cool! After Xi'an, we headed back to Beijing but stopped for a few days at my aunt and uncle's place in Chengde. They live in this gorgeous villa surrounded by mountains. We went on some fun hikes and swam in the rivers and streams in the area. One day we visited these amazing imperial summer gardens and palaces built way back in the 1700s. The Chinese emperors used to escape Beijing's heat by vacationing there. The gardens hadpavilions, temples, bridges, and even a replica of a Tibetan Buddhist monastery! The last stop on our trip was Inner Mongolia to visit some nomadic families living out in the vast grasslands there. That was a really unique experience! We stayed in traditional Mongolian yurts which are circular tents made of wood and canvas. At night, we would sit around a fire, drink milk tea, and listen to folks play traditional instruments and sing throatsinging songs. It was like nothing I'd ever heard before!During the days, we went on horseback rides across the wide open prairies and hiked up grassy hills. The landscape looked like it went on forever with no trees or buildings in sight, just sporadic herds of cows, sheep, and horses roaming free. One afternoon, some of the nomads showed us how they practice archery on horseback, which was their main hunting method traditionally. They were such excellent riders and incredible archers to be able to do both at once. I just about fell off my horse trying it!We also got to participate in an authentic Mongolian barbecue one evening. It involved digging a pit in the ground, filling it with hot coals and rocks, and then putting a grated rack over the top to cook all the meat and vegetables. Everything wasso flavorful and tender cooked that way! For dessert, we had thick yogurt drinks and sweet rice biscuits. It was all absolutely delicious.Well, that was pretty much my amazing summer travels last year! I had such an awesome time experiencing so many different cultures, foods, activities, and sights all across China. From beach vacations to historic cities to staying with nomads on the grasslands, it was the trip of a lifetime. I feel so lucky to have had that opportunity and made so many wonderful memories. Can't wait for more adventures this summer!篇4Hi there! I'm Jia Ming and I'm 11 years old. I just finished 5th grade at Huaxia Elementary School here in Beijing. I had such an exciting year and can't wait to tell you all about it!The best thing that happened was getting a new English teacher, Mr. Davis. He's from Canada and speaks perfect English of course. Having a native speaker as our English teacher made learning the language so much fun. In the past, English class could be a little boring with just our Chinese teachers. But Mr. Davis always had us playing games and singing songs to practice vocabulary and grammar. My favorite game was "Quotation Marks" where we had to listen carefully as Mr. Davis read a quote or famous saying and then put our hands up in the shape of quotation marks around our faces whenever he paused talking. If we messed up the hand motions, we were out! It was such a silly game but really helped me concentrate on understanding full sentences in English.Another highlight was when we did reader's theater and acted out stories and plays from our English textbooks. I got to be Goldilocks and had so many lines to memorize! Speaking all that English dialogue in front of my classmates wasnerve-wracking at first, but it ended up being a blast. Now I'm way more confident speaking English out loud.Outside of class, I tried to immerse myself in English as much as possible. My parents signed me up for an English learning app that had cool animated videos teaching vocabulary, pronunciation, and more. I loved collecting points and badges for completing lessons. We also started watching some movies and shows in English at home with Chinese subtitles, like the new Disney remakes of classic animated films. While I couldn't understand everything, I caught more words and phrases than I expected. The highlight of my English adventures though was my first time traveling abroad with my family over winter break. We went to Singapore and I was amazed that I could understand and communicate so much better than when we last traveled a few years ago before I started intensively studying English. Ordering food, asking directions, and making simple conversation was pretty easy. Singapore was also an awesome place to visit with amazing attractions like Gardens by the Bay and the giant Ferris wheel on the waterfront. When we came back to Beijing, my English skills had improved so much that I got moved up to an advanced English class for 6th grade next year. I'm excited but also a little nervous because it will be super challenging. The advanced class has students way ahead of me who have been taking extra English tutoring forever. I'll have to work twice as hard to catch up to their level. That's not going to stop me from trying my best though! My biggest goal for the upcoming school year is to read my first full novel in English. I'm already practicing by reading short children's books like the Dog Man series. I can understand most of the vocabulary and basic plot pretty well, especially with the funny illustrations providing context clues. Someday I hope tomove on to the Harry Potter books, which look so thick and intimidating but are supposed to be modern classics. As you can probably tell, learning English is my biggest passion right now. My dream is to become an interpreter working at big events and businesses dealing with international affairs. How cool would it be to translate for world leaders, athletes, and celebrities?! With hard work and determination, I'm confident I can make this dream a reality. The world is becoming such an interconnected place and having English skills opens up so many opportunities.Well, that's enough from me. Writing this all out has me even more fired up to continue leveling up my English over the next year. Wish me luck in 6th grade! I'll do my best to make my family, my teachers, and myself proud. Thanks for reading and talk to you again soon!
We’re Just Beginning从零开始By Charles F. KatteringBGM:夏の終わりの海(夏末的海)-岸部真明“We are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book whose pages are infinite ...”“我们正在读一本书的第一章第一行,而这本书有无数页……”I do not know who wrote these words, but I have always liked them asa reminder that the future can be anything we want to make it.
We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything that we can imagine, just as a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reap a good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past. I don’t want it contaminated by the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all be concerned about the future because that is where we will spend the remainder of our lives.
The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it. The future is before us and dynamic. Everything we do will affect it.
Each day brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and in our businesses, if we will only recognize them. We are just at the beginning of the progress in every field of human endeavor.

For every single act that is senselessly destruct ive, there are thousands more small, quiet acts of love, kindness and compassion. For every person w ho seeks to hurt, there are many, many more who devote their lives to helping and to healing.
There is goodness to life that cannot be denied.
In the most magnificent vistas and in the smallest details, look closely, for that goodness always c omes shining through.
There is no limit to the goodness of life. It gr ows more abundant with each new encounter. The mor e you experience and appreciate the goodness of li fe, the more there is to be lived.
Even when the cold winds blow and the world seems to be cov ered in foggy shadows, the goodness o f life lives on. Open your eyes, open your heart, and you will see that goodness is everywhere.
Though the goodness of life seems at times to suf fer setbacks, it always endures. For in the darkes t moment it becomes vividly clear that life is apriceless treasure. And so the goodness of lifeis made even stronger by the very things that wou ld oppose it.
Time and time again when you feared it was gone forever you found that the goodness of life was really only a moment away. Around the next corne r, inside every moment, the goodness of life is t here to surprise and delight you.
Take a moment to let the goodness of life touch your spirit and calm your thoughts. Then, share yo ur good fortune with another. For the goodness of life grows more and more magnificent each time i t is given away.
