In the afternoons, we go on long walks through the fields and forest. Grandpa knows so much about nature. He can identify every bird, bug, and wildflower. He's like a walking encyclopedia!Sometimes we bring a picnic lunch and relax under a shady tree. Those are my favorite times just talking and laughing with Pops.He has the most amazing stories from when he was a kid growing up on that same farm. Grandpa tells me what it was like to live without any modern technology - no TV, video games, or even electricity sometimes! He even carved a little wooden train for my sister that actually moves along a track he built! For my last birthday, Grandpa made me a cool walking stick with a bear head carved on the top. I take it along when we go hiking.Grandpa is always so patient when teaching me how to do new things too. Last year, he showed me how to bait a hook and cast out the fishing line all by myself. He let me try hammering nails and using tools safely when he was building a new doghouse for Rufus. This year, Pops is letting me help out in his vegetable garden by planting seeds, watering, and pulling weeds.I love getting my hands dirty!Sometimes I wish Grandpa lived closer so I could see him more often.
