全国公共英语等级4写作part 1Teachers pay little attention to those school failures, assuming that academic failure means failure in everything. What do you think of this attitude? Write a short argumentative essay(about 300 words) explaining your view.Since the 1980s, there has been heated discussion on the correlation between the academic failure and the sustainable development of a child. Some teachers emphasize that academic failure will deprive a student of any opportunity to further his college education, thus bringing about disastrous changes to his prospective career. However, through numerous practices and observations, it turns out that their statement has many restrictions.Admittedly, the idea held by those arguers does contain an element of truth. For example, the repeated academic failure will definitely leave a man frustrated, hence often casting a shadow on his mood. But these arguers tend to ignore two other essential aspects. First, they fail to take into account the possibility that many people, though presenting a poor academic performance at school, turn out to be outstanding in realms other than their original academic research and study. Consider Charles Darwin who often flunked in his medical study. He later became the founder of the Natural Selection and Evolution. In this sense, the academic frustration is not always synonymous to the bankruptcy of one’s future professional career. Second, the teachers’ assertion doesn’t provide sufficient data to narrow down the exact correlation between the academic competence and the future achievement. Therefore, any further conclusion addressing the problem must be based on thorough investigation. As a matter of fact, when Albert Einstein was young, he couldn’t properly complete certain simple calcu lation. But he finally established himself as the founder of the Theory of Relativity. Given reasons above, the argument that the academic failure meansfailure in everything, under a careful scrutiny, turns out to be groundless in its hasty conclusion. In conclusion, these teachers’ evidence lends little credible support to their claim. To persuade people that academic success is central in one’s career, those teachers would need to provide clearevidence, sufficient data and thorough cause and-effect analysis of alternatives.part 2The command of one or more foreign languages is now a valuable asset for young people. While some find it easy to learn a foreign language, others feel that it really gives them headaches. Write a 300-word expository essay illustrating different kinds of language learners. The issue whether a good command of one foreign language is rather complex, since it involves a conflict between the divergent motives in language learning and the suitable approaches dealing with the target language. However, the final judgment should depend on acase-by-case analysis of several key factors. To begin with, since the 1980s, China has witnessed some dramatic changes in its relationship with other countries. As a result, more foreign companies have already invested in China. Under such situation, it is not surprising at all that a growing number of people, young ones in particular, are particularly interested in foreign language learning, for their linguistic competence will probably be a passport to an esteemed joint venture or bring to them a vacancy with the handsome salary. Additionally, some observers believe thatsufficient financial support from the renowned educational institutions abroad also contribute to the rise of language learners. For example, In China, if a student performs well in such tests as TOEFL or GRE, he is more likely to be admitted by a foreign university. This consideration can also partly account for the increase of language learners. However, in some other instances, the above-mentioned situation is not always adequate. For instance, it is quite possible that a man learns a language out of his interest, or he is planning to work as aninterpreter Surely enough, these are exceptional cases, yet they do exist.Given the analysis above, it is justified to conclude that it is a social phenomenon nowadays that more people begin to learn a foreign language. But what measures should be taken so that language learners can benefit from their study? For one thing, they are expected to enhance their awareness that proper approaches are central in the language study. For another thing, they must attach importance to such basics as grammar, pronunciation or spelling. Still, they must bear inmind that it requires painstaking efforts to take a good command of a foreign language. As Samuel Johnson put it, “Words can’t move mountains. It is diligence that accounts.”。

Section III Writing(40 minutes)Directions:6l. Read the following text(s) and write an essay to1)summarize the main points of the text(s),2) make clear your own viewpoints, and3 )justify your stand. In your essay, make full use oft he information provided in the text(s). If you use more than three consecutive words from the text(s) , use quotation marks( ).You should write 160 -200 words on the ANSWER SHEET.We have all heard the saying, "You are what you eat." Current research suggests that the majority of Americans have bad eating habits, and some of this is determined by our lifestyle, which demands that we eat quickly and inexpensively. What are the commonest foods on the American menu? Hamburgers and French fries, sugarladen drinks; pies and whipped cream, malts and ice-cream. Apart from an occasional broiled hamburger, all the things on that list are bad for us. And there are certain prophets of doom who predict that all those fat laden fast foods provide us with only one thing--a faster road to the grave. On the other hand, there are those who claim that the basic fast-food meal contains all the nourishment you need. After all, there are meat, milk, salad and bread. And if you have a cheeseburger instead of a hamburger, you are doing yourself an extra favor by adding additional protein. What these good news gossips are overlooking is the usually pulpy bun; the excess of sugar in the maltose or Coke; and overdose of salt that is sprinkled on the hamburger to make palatable. So you decide to stay away from the hamburger joint, and buy your food from the supermarket. Are you any better off? Not if you buy frozen or canned food. The experts tell us that canned and frozen vegetables contain sugar, as well as all sorts of perspectives that are not doing anything to improve your health. According to these people, the only way to be sure your food is good for you is to buy it and cook it fresh. And then, of course, you have to eat it--and that creates another problem. The speed of today's world has encouraged many of us to eat far too fast. We do not chew our food enough, and we eat on the run or we jump and start running the minute we finish eating.参考范文:In the article, the author mentioned two aspects constituting Americans’ unhealthy eating habits:one is eating fast food with high calories;the other is eating too fast. Some fast food seem to have nutrition.but still Can do harm to one’S heal出because there are lots of sugar hidden in them.Frozen or canned food are also bad because they are not fresh.the fast pace of modem life force people to eat very fast, with little time to digest or relax fight after each meal. These habits may gradually ruin people’s body.To build a good eating habit,we need some serf-control.when we see fat—laden food such as fried chicken and ice creams on the menu,we’d bet- ter turn our head away toorder some fresh vegetables instead.Take our time to enjoy the meal, instead of finishing it in hurry or eating food on our way to work.Having a small walk after meal is also good for digestion.【2017全国英语等级考试pets4级写作练习题】。

Some solutions have been proposed, such as reducing the number of private vehicles, fully promoting public transportation means and using lead-free petrol, etc. However, my advice is that we should use electricity-generated vehicles instead as a solution to the problem. The substitution of petrol with electricity is advantageous for last two reasons. The first reason is that electricity is clean. We know that the use of petrol has proved to be the most serious cause of air pollution. But if electricity is applied, no pollutants will be produced. The second reason is that electricity is almost inexhaustible. Since many ways of generating electricity are available now, the resort to electricity may free us from the worry that the power needed for vehicle use may run out someday. As a result, we will not have to impose restrictions on the use of vehicles. Nor will we need to trim down the number. To sum up, using electricity as power is an ideal solution to the problem of vehicle pollution. It can both keep the air clean and permanently satisfy the needs of vehicle users.April 20Dear George,I have got a ticket for a computer fair. I would like to give it to you because I will go back to my hometown next week, and I will not be able to attend it. I know you are a computer fan and keen on studying different computers. I think you may like to go to the fair, which is located at Guangming Square on Shanghai Road. Please find the ticket enclosed. Wish you would have a happy time there.Sincerely yours,Mark1999A Major Advantage of Advertising on TelevisionEvery time we turn on TV, we all encounter beautiful girls smiling and dancing with cell phones; handsome men jumping and swirling with their shining shoes; adorable babies singing and giggling for super milk. Although different people have different ideas about the advantages and disadvantages of TV ads, I will say the advantages weigh more. The major advantage of advertising on TV lies in its convenience. Advertising on TV can save our time. We can know directly where we can get the goods we need. For example, it is unnecessary for us spend much time trying to find them from one shop to another. Besides, it can also save our money. We can compare the similar products advertised on TV and finally get the best and cheapest one, without going out or traveling a long distance to get what our friends suggested we should buy. What’s more, we can obtain much information about certain products faster than from other media with its beautiful sounds and vivid pictures. From the above-mentioned reasons, we can see it is very convenient for us to know what products are available, how much we should pay form them and where to get them by watching the advertising on TV.March 27 Dear Jimmy,I’m very sorry to hear you are ill these days. What happened to you? Are you feeling better now? I really want to see you, but I am tied up with my term paper. I have to finish it before next Friday the deadline set by Prof. Wang. Anyway, I will come to you when my paper is finished. Hope you will recover soon. All the best.Yours,Tom2000The Importance of VolunteeringExtracurricular activities as part of college life are very important for the all-round development of college students. No student can afford to neglect the importance of these activities.Evidently, extracurricular activities are important in many ways. Firstly, such activities can enrich the students’ college life. As an effective way of both physical and mental relaxation, extracurricular activities provide students with different opportunities to enjoy themselves and relax themselves. For example, after class students can participate in various ball games or colorful recreational activities. Secondly, such activities can help develop teamwork and cooperation among students. For instance, when involved in group activities, students will realize the limitations of their individual efforts and the strength of group work. Lastly, such activities provide the students with an opportunity to be sociable, which is surely helpful for them to communicate with different people in the future after they graduate from college. In brief, extracurricular activist are of great importance to college students. Only when college students are fully aware of the importance, can they really enjoy their college life and have an all-round development of their physical strength and mentalityOct. 16 Dar George,I just learned form the notice board that our university library is looking for a part-time library assistant who can work at weekends. I know you badly need a part-time job to support yourself. It is said the job is well paid, so I am writing to tell you the news. I think you are the right person for the post. So why not go for an interview?Yours truly,Tom2002The Best Way to Stay HealthyNowadays people are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of health. And they have different ways to stay healthy. For example, some exercise every day while others try to keep a balanced diet. In my view, to do physical exercise regularly is the best way.My suggestion that physical exercise is the best way for people to stay fit is based on the following two reasons. The first reason is that physical exercise can help to reduce on e’s unnecessary fat and weight. Medical experts have reported that the redundancy of fat is one of the causes of various diseases, some of which are even fatal. The second reason is that physical exercise can keep people a good shape of figure. For example, by doing physical exercise, a man can have a strong body and look cool; while a woman can have a slim figure and look pretty. That is why there are so many people doing physical exercise in the parks, on the sports ground and in the various body-building clubs. In short, I believe the best way to keep fit is to do physical exercise. We may bear the following in mind: to the physical exercise very day, you will keep the doctor away.Sept. 12 Dear Jack,I heard form Sam you would sell your walkman. It happened that my Walkman has been broken for almost a month. I’d like to buy yours if possible. So will you let me know about its present condition and the price you would like to charge? Would 30 dollars is a reasonable price?Yours,Simon2003The Importance of Keeping a Good MoodModern people are supposed to endure a lot of pressure, form education, career, or family. There are many tragic stories in the newspapers about people who went insane or some who committed suicide. Those tragedies once again indicate how important it is to keep a good mood.Keeping a good mood under whatsoever circumstances is important in at least two aspects. The first one is that keeping a good mood can help people possess a right attitude towards various difficulties and challenges. Self-confidence is always the best way for people to get out of the difficult situation. For example, some people have failed in business for several times and now they are in deep debt, but they never give up their hope and still believe they have the ability to be successful. This self-confidence will surely lead them to success someday. The second one is that keeping a good mood can help people put disappointment and frustration in the right perspective. Thinking that failure is the mother of success, people can well survive thetemporary blows and look forward to the right future.Through the above analysis, we can realize how important it is to keep a good mood in order to face the pressure or challenges of modern society. When most people are aware of the importance of physical health, we must at the same time remind them of the significance of mental health.Nov. 12Dear Clare,Congratulations on your moving into a new house and thanks a lot for your invitation to your house-warming party this weekend. But I won’t be able to come because I have to be in Beijing on business this Friday and will not return until next Monday. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy the party and wish the new house of yours would bring you a wonderful new life.Yours,Mike2004Will Phones Kill Letter Writing?According to a recent survey made by China Daily, about 200 million Chinese are using phones as their daily communication means instead of writing letters to each other. So some people say that phones will kill letter writing. But I don’t think so.My argument that phones will not kill letter writing lies in at least three aspects. First, letter writing as a traditional way of communication still has some advantages over phones. For example, if people want to express something confidential to their close friends, they will turn to letter writing. Another example is that rural workers who are working far way from their hometown are more likely to write letters to their families than to make phone calls for the purpose of saving money. Second, letter writing is more authoritative and formal in some way. For instance, people who are doing business will write formal business letters to do a deal; people who want to recommend or introduce someone to someone else will write letter of recommendation or letter of introduction; people who want to apply for a scholarship will write a letter of application to a certain university, etc. Last but not the least, letter writing is still regarded as a token of friendship among friends. People always write letters to show their everlasting glove and affection. All in all, letter writing is still very popular among people. It is still a good way for people to communicate with each other and it is impossible to be killed by phones. Just do as the saying goes, if you don’t want to be forgotten by your friend, then take up your pen and write him a letter.June 30Dear Jane,This morning Sandy came to tell me you are feeling very unhappy these daysbecause you failed in the final examination of mathematics. As a close friend of yours, I just want you not to be so depressed and not to lose heart. You know there is no permanent winner, so don’t’ be so disappointed. Cheer up, my dear friend.Yours truly,Dan05 年The Importance of Extracurricular ActivitiesExtracurricular activities as part of college life are very important for the all-round development of college students. However, I find there are still some students who neglect the importance of these activities.Evidently, extracurricular activities are important in many ways. Firstly, such activities can enrich college life. As an effective way of both physical and mental relaxation, extracurricular activities provide students with different opportunities to enjoy themselves and relax themselves. For example, after class students can participate in various ball games or colorful recreational activities. Secondly, such activities can help develop students’sense of teamwork and cooperation with each other. For instance, when involved in group activities, students will realize the limitations of their individual effort and the strength of group work. Lastly, such activities provide the students with an opportunity to be sociable, which is surely helpful for them to communicate with different people in the future after they graduate form college. In brief, extracurricular activities are of great importance to college student. Only when college students are fully aware of the importance, can they really enjoy their college life and have an all-round development of their physical strength and mentality.Section B Note-WritingOct. 16, 2000Dear George,I just learned form the notice board that our university library is looking for a part-time library assistant who can work at weekends. I know you badly need a part-time job to support yourself. It is said the job is well paid, so I am writing to tell you the news. I think you are the right person for the post, so why not go for an interview?Yours truly,Tom2009Will Tourism Bring Harm to the Environment? In recent years, tourism has developed rapidly in China. Many people believe that tourism produce positive effects on economic growth and we should try our best to promote tourism. But what these people fail to see is that tourism may bring about a disastrous impact on our environment. As for me, I'm firmly convinced that too much tourists bring harm to the environment. The bad impact of tourism on the environment has mainly expressed itself in various ways. One way is the process of exploiting a new scenic spot. In order to attract tourists, a lot of artificial facilities have been built, which have certain unfavorable effects on the environment. This process usually breaks the ecological balance of the area. In some mountainous places, trees are being cut down to build hotels for others to see and explore the beauty of the mountains. Then land slides and mud-rock flows come up. Another way the development of tourism has damaged the environment occurs when tourists go to scenic spots. Some tourists don't have the awareness to protect the environment, and ignorantly throw their garbage here and there. Some people even kill the local wildlife to eat, which badly damages the balance of the natural environment. It is wrong to sacrifice the environment for the growth of tourism. We must keep in mind that too much tourists bring harm to the environment. We need to find a balance between satisfying the needs of tourists and reducing to a minimum the pollution they cause.Section BDear Lily,I know you're looking for a part-time job in the coming summer vacation. And I have just seen an ad for a private English tutor for a schoolboy on the campus. Since you're good at English and like teaching, I think this job is very suitable for you. It will help you both earn some money and practice yourselves. So please think about it.。

If you use more than three consecutive wards from the text(s), use quotation marks(“”).You should write 160 -200 words on the ANSWER SHEET.No woman can be too rich or too thin. This saying often attributed to the late Duchess of Windsor embodies much of the odd spirit of our times. Being thin is deemed as such a virtue. The problem with such a view is that some people actually attempt to live by it. I myself have fantasies of slipping into narrow designer clothes. Consequently, I have been on a diet for the better--or worse part of my life. Being rich wouldn' t be bad either, but that won' t happen unless an unknown relative dies suddenly in some distant land, leaving me millions of dollars.Where did we go off the track? When did eating butter become a sin, and a little bit of extra flesh unappealing, if not repellent? All religions have certain days when people refrain from eating and excessive eating is one of Christianity's sevendeadly sins. However, until quite recently, most people had a problem getting enough to eat. In some religious groups, wealth was a symbol of probable salvation and high morals, and fatness a sign of wealth and well-being.Today the opposite is true. We have shifted to thinness as our new mark of virtue. The result is that being fat---or even only somewhat overweight--is bad because it implies a lack of moral strength. Our obsession with thinness is also fueled by health concerns. It is true that in this country we have more overweight people than ever before, and that in many cases, being overweight correlates with an increased risk of heart and blood vessel disease. These diseases, however, may have as much to do with our way of life and our high-fat diets as with excess weight. And the associated risk of cancer in the digestive system may be more of a dietary problem--too much fat and a lack of fiber--than a weight problem.Section III WritingFatness, which used to be a symbol of fortune and prosperity,nowa- days become more like a sin, because people usually associate it with weak moral strength、and poor physical condition. And people are more obsessed with thinness. There are both religious reasons and health concerns behind this phenomenon.However.I think people’S real concern is not being over-weight or too fat,but that we don’t take enough exercises or we fail to eat well.It is quite necessary for US to build strung bones as well as improve heart and lung con-dition through exercises. We should not always keeping our eye Oil the weight.Simply bein9.thin is not enough because being thin doesnot equal being healthy.Neither being too fat nor too thin is good for people’s health. To keep fit, both healthy diet and regular exercises are needed. For instance,we Call eat nutritious food with low calories, have more fresh vegetables and fruits and go to the gyms at least twice a week,or at least take a walk after dinner.Only in this way call we drive fatness away and keep a slender figure.。
