参考范⽂⼀In some countries, high-speed rail is welcomed by many people because it can carry passengers between cities within a shorter period of time. Some think the government should allocate a large sum of money into such railway lines, while others believe that the money should go to existing public transport.Supporters of building high-speed rail argue that new railway lines can help save commuting time despite the massive investment. With urban areas expanding further, more people may live in suburbs or even live in neighboring cities, and this means a new railway line between cities is especially important for those who need to travel to and from city centre for work. If there were not such high-speed rail, it is impossible for many people living in rural areas to commute in and out of the city every day. Therefore, a significant investment in the construction of high-speed railway lines is justified. However, there are also some opponents against such investment, myself included, and they think the funds should go to existing public transport. One major reason is lhat high-speed trains are expensive and the same amount of funds can be used to improve most of the current transport, including buses and underground trains. These are still the main transport by which thousands of people use every day. Another possible reason is related to the demand. It is reported that there are still a large percentage ofpeople living in cities and a new railway line outside of the town can only serve a small percentage of people. This means the investment is not a sensible decision. Ultimately there would be not enough funds to run the new railway system. In conclusion, I believe that although there are benefits to some people living outside of the city if high-speed trains are developed, the number of rural population is still relatively low and existing public transport is still the main choice for most of population and should therefore be the priority of the investment.
In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travelfor a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
Well, you know, there's this trend in some countries where young folks are given a nudge to take a year off between high school and university to either work or travel. It's like a little break from the academic treadmill, and it has its own set of good and not so good things.
For starters, when a young person goes off to work for a year, it'slike a crash course in the real world. They get to see what it's reallylike to earn a living, not just get pocket money from their parents. They might start off thinking that getting a coffee every morning is no big deal, but when they're the ones paying for it with their hard earned cash, they'll think twice. It's a real eye opener and makes them more responsible.Traveling is also super cool. Imagine going to different countries, tasting new foods, and meeting all kinds of people. It broadens their horizons like crazy. They learn about different cultures, and this can make them more open minded. For example, a young person from a small town in the US who travels to India might come back with a whole new perspective on family, religion, and community.2.
雅思 16 test2 写作范文Task 1(柱状图)The given bar chart illustrates the number of visitors to fourdifferent museums in a particular city during the year 2019.Looking at the data, it's clear that Museum A was the most popular among the four. In the first quarter of 2019, it had around 400,000 visitors. This number fluctuated throughout the year but still remained relatively high. For example, it dropped to about 300,000 in the second quarter and then climbed back up to around 350,000 in the third quarter, and finally ended the year with approximately 380,000 visitors.Museum B, on the other hand, had a much lower number of visitors. It started the year with just over 100,000 visitors in the first quarter. There was a slight increase in the second quarter to around 120,000, but then it dropped back down to around 100,000 in the third quarter and ended the year with about 90,000 visitors. It seems like Museum B just couldn't quite catch the public's fancy as much as Museum A.Museum C had a somewhat steady stream of visitors. It began the year with about 200,000 visitors in the first quarter. This number remained more or less the same in the second quarter, with a minor dip to around 180,000. In the third quarter, it increased a bit to about 220,000, and in thefourth quarter, it had around 200,000 visitors again.Museum D was an interesting case. It had a very low number of visitors in the first quarter, only about 50,000. But then it had a significant jump in the second quarter to around 150,000. However, this increase didn't last long as it dropped back to around 80,000 in the third quarter and ended the year with about 60,000 visitors.Overall, Museum A was the star of the show in 2019 in terms of attracting visitors, while Museum D had the most erratic pattern of visitor numbers among the four.Task 2(话题:人们在工作之余是否应该做一些和工作完全不同的事情)In our modern, fast paced world, the question of whether people should do something completely different from their work in their spare time is quite an interesting one.Well, I think they absolutely should. You see, our jobs can be really taxing. Take me, for example. I work in an office all day, staring at a computer screen, typing away like a madman. By the time I'm done with work, I feel like my brain is about to explode. If I then go home and do something similar to work, like more typing or data analysis (even if it's for personal projects), it's just going to drive me nuts.Doing something completely different is like a breath of fresh air. It gives our minds a break. For instance, if you're a doctor who spends all day dealing with sick patients, maybe in your spare time you could take up painting. You get to use a different part of your brain, be creative, and forget about all the stress at work. It's like your mind goes on a little vacation.Another great thing about doing different things in your spare time is that it broadens your horizons. Let's say you're an accountant. Your workis all about numbers and spreadsheets. But if you start learning a new language in your free time, you're opening up a whole new world. You can meet new people from different cultures, understand different ways of thinking, and it just makes you a more well rounded person. Some might argue that doing work related things in your spare time can help you advance in your career. But I say, come on! We need a break. Life isn't all about work. If we keep grinding away at work related stuff all the time, we're going to burn out. And a burnt out person isn't going to be very effective at work or in life in general. In conclusion, doing something completely different from work in our spare time is not only good for our mental health but also for our personal growth. So, go ahead, ditch the work related tasks in your free time and do something wild and different. It'll do you a world of good.。

Discuss.开头段⑴Advertising has become prevalent in the contemporary society and vast billboards, TV commercials and leaflets(传单)are all exerting profound impact on modern life. ⑵In the meantime, whether advertising is a blessing or a curse has sparked spirited (激烈的)debate. ⑶Some people argu e (认为)that advertising has only beneficial influence on our lives while many others contend that it has detrimental (有害的)effect as well. (我很难想象相反的事情发生)结尾段⑴In the final analysis, I concede that the proliferation (扩散)of the advertising industry does not come without any adverse effects. (概括让步段的观点)⑵However, the benefits created by advertising far outweigh the disadvantages. (说清楚自己更倾向的观点)⑶Overall, I am convinced that we should further promote the development of advertising and meanwhile get this industry better-regulated.二.Today PC games are very popular among teenagers. But some parents consider that these games are not instructive and that teenagers should be kept away from them. What do you think? As one of the products of modern technology, PC games have definitely become an indispensable part of most teenagers’ lives. Statistics show that teenagers are spending more time and money on entertainment items such as PC games than they did ten years ago. However, in my opinion, although PC games have certain positive effects such as giving teenagers relaxation and activating their imaginations, they have certain negative effects.First, PC games occupy the time when teenagers should be sitting in the classroom or studying in the library. The colorful pictures and vivid characters of PC games are far more exciting than the dull black letters in textbooks. Therefore, addiction to PC games is often accompanied by poor academic work.Furthermore, far from being instructive, some PC games contain violence and pornography, which are extremely harmful for the healthy growth of teenagers. It is said that most juvenile delinquents commit crimes just because their PC game heroes do so in a virtual-reality world. In addition, speaking from the physical aspect, PC games have contributed a lot to failing eyesight among teenagers in recent years. To sum up, despite their entertainment and relaxation values, PC games interfere with the education of teenagers. It would be better if teenagers could use such games in a more rational and controlled way, perhaps under the supervision of their parents. Writing Task 2You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: Nowadays we are producing more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to reduce the amount of rubbish produced? It is true that in almost every country today each family produces a large amount of waste every week. Most of the rubbish comes from the packaging of the things we buy, such as processed food. However, even if we buy food without packaging, we still produce rubbish from the plastic bags that are used everywhere. The first reason why we have so much packaging is that we consume so much more every day than families did in the past. Also, convenience is very important in modern life; therefore, we buy packaged food that can be transported over long distances and store it until we need it, at first in the supermarket, then at home.Further, the amount of waste produced is also a result of our habit of using something once and throw it away. We forget that even the cheapest plastic bag has used valuable resources and energy. Above all, we also forget that it is a source of pollution and difficult to dealwith. Therefore, I think that governments need to raise this awareness in the general public. Children should be educated about environmental issues at school while adults need to take action. Governments can encourage such action by collecting taxes on packaging, such as plastic bags and fining families and shops that do not try to recycle their Waste.。

It started from 40% in 1981, followed by 50 % in 1991 and reduced to 45% in 2001. Resources such as books experienced a similar pattern. In 1981, it occupied 15% of the spending and it rose to one fifth in 1991 before dropping to 9% in 2001.Other workers' salaries had been decreasing over last three decades, which reduced from 288% in 1981 to only 15% in 2001. On the other hand, more money had spent on insurance. It first rose by 1% to 3 % in 1991 and then dramatically climbed to 8% in 2001. Furniture and equipment also increased from 15% in 1981 to 23% in 2001, despite the fact that it declined by 10% in 1991.Overall, teachers and other workers’ salaries, furniture and equipment were the highest expenses of the school for the last 30 years. 2:The charts compare changes in the shares of five different items which comprised the yearly expenses of a British school between 1981 and 2001.Overall, while the shares of three items experienced rises, there were declines in the remaining two. Moreover, academic staff salaries contributed the largest proportion of expenditure throughout the survey, whereas insurance had the smallest share.Wages paid to the teaching staff accounted for the most significant proportion of expenditure in 1981 (40%) and went up by a quarter before declining slightly. In comparison, the salaries of non-academic employees were responsible for less than a third of all expenses in 1981, but their share dipped substantially by 13% over the course of these 20 years. The share of furniture and equipment was initially as high as that of educational resources (15%), but while the former dropped by 2/3 before rising fivefold, the latter experienced a marked rise after which it halved, reaching just below 10%.The contribution of insurance had risen minimally from 2% to 3% by 1991, before climbing almost threefold in 2001.参考范文3(考官范文):The charts show how much a UK school spent on different running costs in three separate years: 1981, 1991 and 2001.In all three years, the greatest expenditure was on staff salaries. Technology has affected relationships in various ways, and in my opinion there are both positive and negative effects.Technology has had an impact on relationships in business, education and social life. Firstly, telephones and the Internet allow business people in different countries to interact without ever meeting each other. Secondly, services like Skype create new possibilities for relationships between students and teachers. For example, a student can now take video lessons with a teacher in a different city or country. Finally, many people use social networks, like Facebook, to make new friends and find people who share common interests, and they interact through their computers rather than face to face.On the one hand, these developments can be extremely positive. Cooperation between people in different countries was much more difficult when communication was limited to written letters or telegrams. Nowadays, interactions by email, phone or video are almost as good as face-to-face meetings, and many of us benefit from these interactions, either in work or social contexts. On the other hand, the availability of new communication technologies can also have the result of isolating people and discouraging real interaction. For example, many young people choose to make friends online rather than mixing with their peers in the real world, and these ‘virtual’ relationships are a poor substitute for real friendships. In conclusion, technology has certainly revolutionised communication between people, but not all of the outcomes of this revolution have been positive.。

Undoubtedly, the railway construction, in a way, can be deemed as a win-win program for both the country and its citizens. After all, pared with other types of transportation, the transporting load of railage in a unit time is the largest and it is also the fastest approach of conveyance on land. Meanwhile, some people think that at present, there are too many choices for people to select. As fas as I am concerned, I totally agree with it.On one hand, more and more companies are established as the result of economic globalization. And these companies can not only provide people with enough job opportunities, they can also offer people a variety of products they make. However, in the past, there were not so many companies, and many people could only choose to spend their whole day in the farm and do their own business. On the other hand, people nowadays are having better life now than they did in the past as the result of economic development, which means that they have more money now, and they can afford to buy more things. We may see rich people have a lot of choices when they buy luxuries to show their social status, and normal people are richer than before, and most of them can buy things they want.Last but not least, the advent of the Internet has contributed a l ot to the increasing number of people’s choices. At present, we individuals could even sell our brand new or used things on the Internet. Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to deal with. Others, however, think that each individual should take some actions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
由于考题的提问形式是“Discuss both views and give your own opinion. ”所以,既要讨论到个人能够采取何种行动解决一些环境问题,也要讨论为什么有些环境问题个人无法解决(即只有政府或公司才能解决)。
Sample Answer:It is true that our tiny individual actions often seem insignificant compared to the scale and complexity of global environmental problems such as pollution, deforestation and depletion of natural resources. But that does not relieve our duty as individuals to do as much as we can to deal with these problems.Individual actions, small as they may be, can prove more effective than we realize. We can avoid driving the car, and take public transit, walk, or bicycle instead. This will reduce the use of fossil fuels and cut pollution. Saving energy at home, like turning on the air conditioner only when we have to, or turning water heater down a few degrees, is also ultimately good for the environment. Individual actions can also turn into united powers when, for example, the whole neighborhood is mobilized to participate in a local campaign to oppose environmentally damaging policies. There are, however, obstacles that stand in the way of individual action towards environmental conservation. The first obstacle is the lack of professional knowledge needed to cope with serious environmental issues like soil erosion and salinity, which require a significant amount of investigation and research. Another obstacle which makes individual action almost impossible is when an environmental emergency or accident happens, e.g. an oil spill near the bord der line, which would necessitate government intervention or even international coordination. So, in conclusion, when it comes to environmental problems, individual actions are indispensable in the problem solving process. But the most pressing and complicated problems go far beyond an individual’s capability and so r equire the concerted effort of the government as well as the global community.271 words2009年2月28日Some people believe that improve public health should increase the number of sports facilities; others believe that it has little effects and need other measures to improve it.Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Sample Answer (359 words)The construction of new sports facilities are definitely needed in an environment where people's health is in a declining state. However, there are those who believe that the way to improving people's health should lie in other measures that governments have to come up with to get people to live more healthily. In many countries around the world, sports facilities are diminishing at an alarming rate, with existing ones being threatened with closure or face redevelopment in favor of housing and commercial development. The lack of sports facilities has directly led to a sharp decline in the general public’s involvement in sports activities, which is the major culprit for ill health and excessive weight nowadays. If a wider range of sports and fitness facilities (swimming pools, basketball court and gymnasiums etc.) were available, then people would be more willing to spendtime in these facilities to train their bodies and to improve their fitness, instead of living a sedentary life at home watching television, playing video games or using computers. However, the building of such facilities may become a waste of time and taxpayers’ money if they are built far away from where people live or if they are too expensive to use. There are scenes of empty sports grounds in many cities because it takes too much trouble to get there, and many sports clubs are receiving fewer guests because they charge unreasonably high membership fees. In these cases, the government should be spending more on advertising healthier life style instead of just wasting money on facilities that are not going to be actively used by the people. For example, it is important for people to know that little things like jogging or taking the stairs provide as many benefits as using exercising equipment in a sports club. All in all, the government should be spending more money on the campaigns of getting the people to be more involved in a healthier lifestyle instead of wasting taxpayers’ money on sports facilities that are barely used by the general public. This is by far the best way of improving the health standards of a nation as a whole.2009年3月7日Newspapers have become an enormous influence on people’s ideas and opinions. Why is this the case? Is it a desirable or undesirable situation? The nickname of the “Uncrowned King” given to the modern journalist is by no means an exaggeration. In almost every modern society, newspapers have been playing an essential role in shaping people’s thoughts on a wide range of iss ues and are always regarded as an indispensable source of information. In my opinion, this complex phenomenon can be boiled down to several key factors, and both its positive and negative aspects need to be analyzed thoroughly. To begin with, human curiosity is an underlying factor in the growing popularity of newspapers. As the only species on the planet equipped with extraordinary intelligence, humans are inveterately curious about the latest events around the globe. Therefore, all kinds of newspapers pro sper in such an age that is gushing with information, appealing to people’s increasingly strong desire to know more about this constantly changing world. It is little wonder that numerous readers are lured into heavier reliance on those well-established and internationally renowned newspapers. To a large extent, this situation is a desirable one with its many positive aspects. First of all, in order to maintain their good reputation, most newspapers and magazines report actual events in a detailed way, providing not only factual information but also deep insights into complex social and political issues. In addition, circulated on a daily basis and across an extensive demographic region, major newspapers have smoothly operated branches, seasoned correspondents and a highly efficient system to collect local news with the swiftest actions. Most importantly, their coverage and insightful comments can encourage young readers to form their own opinions on current affairs. On the other hand, people should be fully aware of the downside of the journalistic dominance. More often than not, newspapers of national importance are largely controlled by the government and act as the organ of the authorities. By furnishing citizens with prejudiced and self-opinionated reports on sensitive issues, such as foreign affairs and national security, these newspapers can manipulate their perspectives and attitudes and exercise a sort of monopoly on their way of thinking. On a less serious level, flooding the pages with trivial pieces of entertainment news and celebrity secrets is the usual way to divert the public’s attention away from government scandals and to eclipse such social and economic ills as unemployment, crime and judicial incompetence. In conclusion, although the positive functions of modern journalism are to be sufficiently recognized, people must not slacken their vigilance against the possible abuse of such a tremendous power that newspapers possess. In other words, while absorbing bits of information in the newspapers, readers are advised to adopt an objective approach and cast a discriminating eye on their way of presentation, comments and implicit assumptions.2010年1月30日Today there is a great increase in anti-social behavior and lack of respect to others. What are the causes of this? What measures can be taken to reduce this problem?Nowadays, the issue of anti-social behaviour and lack of respect for others is not uncommon. This is especially true among young people. There are mainly two causes of this phenomenon--the negative influence of mass media and the decline of the family and poverty. As the mass media become increasingly commercialized, program producers and publishers of books are more focused on ratings, which is clearly associated with profits. Therefore, violence of all kinds is presented on TV and in books. The constant exposure to violence is to suggest people that violence is an ordinary way of life, and that shooting and cheating are possible ways to succeed. We also notice that our societies and even our families have become less cohesive, as people have to struggle to cope with the challenges of life. The decline in our sense of community and family has gonehand-in-hand with the rise of individualism. People increasingly look after their own interests without considering the needs of society.Accordingly, it is the government's responsibility to introduce restrictions and supervision on the mass media, i.e. not allowing certain TV programs at given times, or by limiting the number of books published according to their content. Families and schools also play equally important role in dealing with this problem. Parental guidance is a key factor of self-cultivation in one's lifetime. Parents can spend more time staying with their children and patiently carry out the duty of family education. For children who exhibit someanti-social behaviour, schools should help them to realize what they did is wrong rather than giving up on them.Overall, although the problem of anti-social behaviour and lack of respect for others seem to be inevitable, we must recognize its negative effects on the society as a whole and work on effective measures to diminish its adverse influences.
