All of us have habits, whether we want to admit it or not. They are tiny little mannerisms that affect our behavior, our emotions, and even the way we live our lives. Some of these habits are easy to change. You all don't need me to tell you how: you just do it. But then, there's the other kind, the kind that seems to keep defeating us. We always try to change them. We try and try and it really does work for a while, then we stop tryin g. We give up. We force ourselves to try quitting or changing again, then we stop again… and we feel like failures. These habits that are so hard to change are referred to as our bad habits and as we will see, it is harder than we think to break them!

Why is it so hard to break a bad habit?

We unknowingly develop good and bad habits at young ages. But bad habits are the ones that are hard to get rid of. Talking out of turn, using bad table manners, pushing in line, biting our fingernails—the list could go on for miles. Even more, what you believe are good habits to you might be seen as bad to others, that's why we don't always realize that we have bad habits. Some manners that Chinese people accept as good behavior might be seen as rude according to a person from a different country. So either we try to break them all the time or sometimes we don't even realize that our habits are bad.

Take small steps
