Most men worked in an office, a factory or some other place away from home. Since the man earned the money, he paid the bills. The money was used for food, clothes, a house and other family needs. The man made most of the decisions. He was the boss. In the traditional marriage, the woman seldom worked away from the house. She stayed at home to care for the children and her husband. She cooked the meals, cleaned the house, washed the clothes and did other household work. Her job at home was very important. In recent years, many couples continue to have atraditional relationship of this kind. The man has a job and earns the money for the family. The woman stays at home and cares for the children and the house. (66) Many Americans are happy with this kind of marriage. But some other Americans have a different impression of marriage and family responsibilities. There are two important differences in male and female roles now. One is that both men and women have many more choices. They may choose to marry or to stay single. They may choose to work or stay at home. Both men and women may choose roles that are comfortable for them. A second difference in male and female roles is that within marriage many decisions and responsibilities are shared. The husband and wife may choose to have children, or they may not. If they have children, the man may take care of them some of the time, all of the time, or not at all. The woman may want to stay at home and take care of the children. Or she may want to go to work. Men and women now decide these things together in a marriage. (67) Many married people now share these decisions and the responsibilities of their families.46.Which of the following is NOT true in the traditional marriage?A.Men worked at a job to earn money for the family.B.The woman made most of decisions.C.The woman stayed at home to care for the children.D.The man paid the bills.正确答案:B47.In recent years, ______.A.young couples reject the traditional relationshipB.the woman has a job and earns money for the familyC.the woman doesn’t stay at home and care for the children and the houseD.the roles of men and women have begun to change正确答案:D48.Men and women may now choose all the following EXCEPT to______.A.marry or to stay singleB.work or to stay at homeC.have the roles that are comfortable for themD.leave their jobs just because they have children正确答案:D49.The following are all now true EXCEPT that______.A.they may choose to have children or notB.the man may take care of the children some of the timeC.the woman may want to go to workD.the woman is the most important person in the house正确答案:D50.Which of the following is NOT true?A.The man was the boss in the traditional marriage.B.The woman’s job at home was very important in the past.C.Many Americans still have a traditional marriage.D.Everyone tries to get married.正确答案:DMost young people enjoy some forms of physical activity. It may be walking, cycling, swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kind, football, hockey, golf, tennis, or it may be mountaineering. Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountains? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure.(68) Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a different kind that it would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team game”. We should not be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no “matches”between”teams”of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their live may depend, there is obviously teamwork. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities. A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is not unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. (69) They may take more time than younger men, but they probably climb with more skills and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment.51.Mountaineering is a sport which involves______.A.hardshipB.coldC.physical riskD.all of the above正确答案:D52.The main difference between a sport and a game lies in______.A.uniformB.activityC.rulesD.skills正确答案:C53.Mountaineering is also a team sport because______.A.it involves rulesB.it involves matches between teamsC.it requires mental and physical qualitiesD.mountaineers depend on each other while climbing正确答案:D54.Which of the following is true?A.Mountaineers compete against each other.B.Mountaineers compete against other teams.C.Mountaineers compete against nature.D.Mountaineers compete against international standard.正确答案:C55.What is the best title for the passage?A.MountaineeringB.Mountain ClimbersC.Mountaineering Is Different from Golf and FootballD.Mountaineering Is More Dangerous than Other Sports正确答案:AMost cities and states in the U. S. collect a sales tax on almost everything you buy. You must ask when you move into a new community how the local sales tax is, and what items are and are not taxable. (70) Both taxable items and the amount of tax vary considerably, from one.or two percent in some places up to eight or ten in others. The New York City sales tax, for example, is currently 8% , so if you buy a pair of $40 shoes you will actually have to pay $43.20. This makes paying and getting correct change much more difficult (not to mention making everything more expensive). We say in America that only two things in life are unavoidable; one is death and the other is taxes. Another thing that makes money exchanges more complicated is tipping. The Chinese people have happily put an end to tipping, butWesterners are still putting up with this indignity. Waiters and waitresses, cab drivers, hotel bellboys, bakers, hairdressers and all sorts of other people must be tipped. Their employers give them low wages because it is expected that you, the customer, will make up the difference. If you don’t, the service person can’t earn a living. Tipping also varies from place to place, generally in the area of 15% of your bill (before taxes) , but again you should ask local residents whom to tip and how much. There is another kind of tipping as well. You are generally expected to give something( either cash or a bottle of whisky) to the mailman at Christmas time. You should discuss this also with neighbors and colleagues.56.This passage is about______.A.shopping and tippingB.sales and taxesC.sales taxes and tippingD.sales taxes and people正确答案:C57.According to the passage, if you buy a pair of $50 shoes in the New York city, you pay an extra______as sales tax.A.$4.5B.$4C.$5D.$5.50正确答案:B58.Usually, cab drivers______.A.get high wages from the employerB.get great benefits from the employerC.get low wages from the employerD.get high bonus from the employer正确答案:C59.According to the passage, which of the following statements is true?A.The Chinese people have to give tips in western countries.B.The westerners don’t have to give high tips in their own country.C.Barbers, hotel bellboys and all sorts of other people can earn a living if they are not tipped.D.Tipping varies from place to place, generally in the area of 20% of your bill.正确答案:A60.Usually, taxable items and the amount of tax______.A.have no difference from place to place in the U.S.B.are over 15% in the U. S.C.have been put an end to in the U.S.D.vary from place to place in the U. S.正确答案:DIn a classroom in any country, the teacher teaches more than art or history or language. He or she teaches something behind the culture of the country. In a country such as the United States, people with different history, culture and language join together and they pay much attention to personal ideas. Teachers try to make each student special. Students do not have to remember a lot of information, instead, they work and find answers by themselves. There is often discussion in the classroom. At an early age students learn to have their own ideas. Their education encourages personal thought. The importance is placed on how to arrive at an answer and not just to get the correct answer. In most Asian countries people have the same language, history and culture. Perhaps for this reason, the education there pays more attention to group goals. Children in China and Japan often work together and help each other on homework. In the classroom, the ways of teaching are often very traditional. The teacher says, and the students listen. There is not much discussion. Instead, the students repeat rules or information that they have been taught in order to keep them in mind. In many ways these differences come from different educational ideas. In Western countries teachers are taught to help students to learn. They make it easier for the students to learn by themselves. In some Asian countries, however, teachers often feel that their job is to pass knowledge to students.61.Do students in the United States have to remember a lot of information?正确答案:No, they don’t have to.62.There is often discussion in the classroom in America, isn’t there?正确答案:Yes, there is.63.What does the education in the United States encourage?正确答案:The education in the, United States encourages personal thought.64.Which does education in some Asian countries pay more attention to, group goals or personal ideas?正确答案:It pays more attention to group goals.65.What do the teachers in Asian countries think about their job?正确答案:They think their job is to pass knowledge to students.Section ADirections: Translate the following English into Chinese.66.Many Americans are happy with this kind of marriage. Each of the three passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the ANSWER SHEET with a single line through the center.Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage:In the traditional marriage, the man worked at a job to earn money for eht family. Most men worked in an office ,a factor or some other place away from the home .Since the man earned the money ,he paid the bills. The money was used for food, clothes,a house and other family needs. The man made most of th decisions. He was the boss.In the traditional marriage, the woman seldom worked away from the house. She stayed at home to care for the children and her husband. She cooked the meals ,cleaned the house, washed the clothes an did other household work. Her job at home was important. In recent years, many couples continue to have a traditional relationship of this kind .The man has a job and earns the money for the family. The woman stays at home and cares for the children and the house.May Americans are happy with this kind of marriage. But some other Americans have a different impression of marriage and family responsibilities. There are two important differences in male and females roles now .One is that both men and woman have many more choices. They may choose to marry or to stay single. They may choose to work or stay at home .Both men and women may choose roles that are comfortable for them.A second difference in male and female roles is that within marriage many decisions and responsibilities are shared. The husband and wife may choose to have children ,or they may not,If they have children ,the man may take care of them some of the time ,all of the time ,or not at all.The woman may want to stay at home and take care of the children .Or she may want to go to work.Men and women now decide these things together in marriage. Many marrige people now share these decisions and the responsibilities of their families.46. ColdB. Physical riskC. All of the above52.The main difference between a sport and a game lie in ________A.UniformB.ActivityC.RulesD.SkillsA. Mountaineering is also a team sport because________A.it involves rulesB.It involves matches between teamsC.It requires mental and physicalD.Mountaineers depend on each other while climbing55.Which of the following is true?A.Mountaineers compete against each otherB.Mountaineers compete against other teamC.Mountaineers compete against natureD.Mountaineers compete against international standard55.what is the best title for the passage?A.mountaineeringB.Mountain climbersC.Mountaineering is different from golf and footballD.Mountaineering is more dangerous than other sportsQuestions 56 to 60 are based on the following passage:Most cities and states in the U.S collect a sales tax on almost everything you buy.You must ask when you move into a new community how the local sales tax is and what items are and are not taxable. Both taxable items and the amount of tax vary considerably, from one or two percent in some places up to eight or ten in others .The New Your City sales tax ,for example,is currently 8 %,so if you buy a pare of $40 shoes you will actually have to pay $43.20.This makes paying and getting correct change much more difficult (not to mention making everything more expensive). We say in America that only two things in life are unavoidable:one is death and the other is taxes.Another thing that makes money exchanges more complicated is tipping .The Chinese people have happily put an end to tipping ,but Westerners are still plagued with this indignity.Waiters and waitresses ,cab drivers, hotel bellboys, barbers an hairdresser and all sorts of other people must bu tipped.Their employers give them low wages because it is expected that you ,the customer, will make up the difference,If you don't,the service person can't earn a living .Tipping also varies from place to place ,generally in the area of 15%of your bill ,but again you should ask local residents whom to tip and how much. There is another kind of tipping as well. You are generally expected to give something(either cash or a bottle of whisky )to the mailman and to your building "super"at Christmas time. You should discuss this also with neighbours and colleagues.56.This passage is about ______A. Shopping and tippingB. Sales and taxesC. Sales taxes and tippingD. I suggest that you use a multi-stage interviewing process by which the candidate meets with multiple people to provide different opinions and input on the hiring-decision. Again, keep all notes taken during theinterview. These notes should be factual and should detail bservations made by the people conducting the interview as well as quotations of the candidate’s reponses to questions. There should be no inferences made about a candidate in any notes, and no notes should be taken on a resume(简历).Pre-determine three to six questions that will help you uncover the capability of each applicant and ask those same questions to each person that is interviewed. These initial questions will serve as a departure point to base other follow-up questions on. By using the same question in different ways and you will also be able to draw close com parisons between each candidate’s responses, which will help you determine the best match for the position.Developing that interviewing process a little further, time limits should be set on responses to candidates.Today’s job market changes so rapidly that waiting more than 72 hours to inform a candidate how he or she did in an interview is an eternity(永远). Many candidates have multiple interviews within one or two days and plan to take the first job offered that meets their salary and benefits demands. Hired or not, as a candidate, it is much easier to keep a positive frame of mind about a company that is responsive, shows an interest in your success as an individual, and provides feedback (反馈)about an interview within one or two days. Waiting to make a decision about candidates is how other companies manage to hire the “perfect fit”right out from under you!26. As for an interview, the author suggests that .A. there should be more than one interviewer in the interviewing processB. only the applicants’ responses to questions should be noted and recorded.C. interviewers should make some notes on the margins of the candidates’ resumesD. interviewers should ask whatever questions that may help decide the perfect fit27. They give their owners automatic credit in stores, restaurants, and hotels at home, across the country, and -even abroad; and they make many banking services available as well. More and more of these credit cards can be read automatically, making it possible to withdraw or deposit money in scattered-locations, whether or not the local branch bank is .open. For many of us the "cashless society" is not on the `horizon--it's already here. While computers offer these conveniences to consumers, they have many advantages for sellers too. Electronic cash registers can do much more simply ring up sales. They can keep a wide range of records, including who sold what, when, and to whom. This information allows businessmen to keep track of their list of goods by showing which items are being sold :and how fast they are moving. Decisions to reorder or return goods to suppliers can then be made. At the same time these computers record which hours ate busiest and which employees are the most efficient ,allowing. personnel and staffing assignments to be made accordingly. And they also identify preferred customer for promotional campaigns. Computers are relied on by .manufacturers for similar `reasons: Computer-analyzed marketing reports can help to decide which products to emphasize now, -which to develop for the future, and which to drop .Computers keep track of goods in stock, of raw materials on hand, and even. of the production process: itself.Numerous other commercial enterprises, from theaters to magazine publishers, from, gas and electric utilities to milk processors, bring better end more efficient services to consumers through the use of computers.31. The phrase "ring up sales" most probably means .A. make an order of goods.B. record sales on a cash register.C. call the sales manager.D. keep track of the goods in stock.34. The answers should bewritten after the corresponding numbers on the Answer Sheet.Although. credit cards are becoming more .acceptable part of the financial scene, they are still regarded with suspicion by many as being a major part of the “live now pay later" syndrome. Along With hire; purchase, rental and leasing schemes, they provide encouragement to spend more money. Of course, it is only the foolhardy who succumb to the temptation to live, temporarily at least; beyond their means, and such people would not doubt manage to do so even without credit cards.Advertising campaigns have, however, promoted a growing realization of the advantages of these small pieces of plastic. They obviate the need to carry large. amounts of cash and are always useful in emergencies. All the credit card organizations charge interest on a monthly basis which may work out as high as 25 percent a year, yet judicious purchasing using a card can mean that you obtain up to seven weeks interest free credit. Using the card abroad where items frequently take a long time to be included on your account can extend the period even further. It is worthwhile shopping around before deciding on particular credit card. I t’s necessary to consider the amount of credit granted interest rates which may vary slightly the number and range of outlets though most cards cover major garages, hotels, restaurants and departments stores and of course what happens if your card is lost or stolen. A credit card thief may be sitting on a potential gold mine particularly if there is delay in reporting the loss of the card. However, if used wisely, a credit card can cost nothing or at least help to tide you over a period of financial difficulty.36. Many people suspect that credit cards lure people to .37. The author seems to believe that even in the absence of credit cards, some people would undoubtedly .38. In Para. 2, in addition to the advantages of no need to carry cash and being usefulin emergency, what else is said to be the advantage of credit cards?.39. What’s the main i dea of Para 3?40. The author holds a attitude towards credit cards.Task 4Directions:Read the following passage and complete the outline below it (No.41 through No. 45).Y ou should write your answers briefly on the answer sheet correspondingly.During the holiday break, I finally got around to a promise I made to my mom and dad—to remotely access their PC—to help troubleshoot problems or questions they have about their Dell laptop.A while ago, I download GoToMyPC on my, computer, which allows you to access your computer from any other computer. Reading Comprehension (120 point, 3for each)Directions: In this section there are six passages followed by questions or unfinished statement, each with four suggested answers marked A, B, C or D Choose the one that you think is the correct answer.Passage 1The universities from which our own are descended were founded in the Middle Ages. They were established either by corporations of students wanting to learn, as in Italy, or by teachers wanting to teach as in France. Corporations that had special or customary privileges for the purpose of carrying out the intentions of the incorporators were common in those days. The university corporations of the Middle Ages at the height of their power were not responsible to anybody, in the sense that they could not be brought to book by any authority. They claimed, and made good their claim, complete independence of all secular and religious control The American university was, however, at first a corporation formed by a religious denomination or by the state for the purposes of the denomination or the state. The American university in the seventeenth century was much closer to the American university today than to the medieval university. The Puritan communities needed ministers and professional men and so established universities to provide them. Later, religious groups built universities in order to extend their own influence. For example, the University of Chicago was founded by devout Baptists to combat the rising tide of Methodism in the Middle West. The president and trustees of the university were required to have the proper religious affiliations in order to keep the university on the right path. Fortunately, the combination of John D. Rockefeller, William Rainey Harper, and the enlightened wing of the Baptist Church preserved the university from too narrow an interpretation of its purpose.11. what does the passage mainly discussed?A. It is implied that the University of ChicagoA. underwent a period of liberalizationB. succeeded in fighting the influence of MethodistsC. made true of the "founders" purposeD. was finally taken over by John D. Rockefeller15. All of the following statements are true in the passage EXCEPTA. John D. Rockefeller helped to set up the University of Chicago.B. The University corporations of the Middle Ages were independentC. The American university today was similar to the university of the seventeenth centuryD. The French universities were founded by groups of professors.Passage 2Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order to improve his way of life. With the tools of technology he has altered many physical features of the earth. He has transformed woodlands into farmland, and made lakes and reservoirs out of rivers for irrigation purposes or hydroelectric power. Man has also modified the face of the earth by draining marshes and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways. However, man' s changes to the physical environment have not always had beneficial results. Today, pollution of the air and water is an increasing danger to the health of the planet. Each day thousands of tons of gases come out of the exhausts of motor vehicles; smoke from factories pollutes the air of industrialized areas and the surrounding areas of countryside. The air in cities is becoming increasingly unhealthy. The pollution of water is equally harmful. In the sea, pollution from oil is increasing and is killing enormous numbers of algae (水藻), fish and birds. The whole ecological balance of the sea is being changed. The same problem exists in rivers. Industrial wastes have already made many rivers lifeless.Conservationists believe that it is now necessary for man to limit the growth of technology in order to survive on earth.16. Man has changed his physical environment with a view toA. altering the physical features of the earthB. bettering his way of lifeC. improving his surroundingsD. modifying the face of the planet17. According to the passage, pollution of the air and water is caused byA. thousands of tons of gases coming out of the exhausts of motor vehiclesB. the changes of the environment that technology has brought to manC. the increasing amount of oil that has been producedD. industrial wastes discharged into rivers18. The ecological balance of the sea is lost whenA. people consume more fish than they used toB. the ecological balance of the river is lostC. large numbers of algae, fish and birds are killedD. the production of marine petroleum is increased19. Who would most probably disagree with conservationists?A. Industrialists.B. Ecologists.C. Businessmen.D. Environmentalists20. The purpose of the writer isA. to reduce modern technologyB. to improve man' s way of lifeC. to warn people not to change the natural environmentD. to call attention to the protection of the natural environmentPassage 3People appear to be born to compute. The numerical skills of children develop so early and so inexorably that it is easy to imagine an internal clock of mathematical maturity guiding their growth. Not long after learning to walk and talk, they can set the table with impressive accuracy--one plate, one knife, one spoon, one fork, for each of the five chairs. Soon they are capable of noting that they have placed five knives, spoons, and forks on the table, and a bit later, that this amounts to fifteen pieces of silverware. Having thus mastered addition, they move on to subtraction. It seems almost reasonable to expect that if a child were secluded on a desert island at birth and retrieved seven years later, he or she could enter a second-grade mathematics class without any serious problems of intellectual adjustment.Of course, the truth is not so simple this century. The work of cognitive psychologists has illuminated the subtle forms of daily learning on which intellectual progress depends. Children were observed as they slowly grasped--or, as the case might be, bumped into-concepts that adults take for granted, as they refused, for instance, to concede that quantity is unchanged as water pours from a short stout glass into a tall thin one. Psychologists have since demonstrated that young children, asked to count the pencils, on a pile, readily report the number of blue or red pencils, but must be coaxed into finding the total. Such studies have suggested that the rudiments of mathematics are mastered gradually, and with effort. They have also suggested that the very concept of abstract numbers--the idea of a oneness, twoness, a threeness that applies to any class of objects and is a prerequisite for doing anything more mathematically demanding than setting a table--is itself far more innate.21. What does the passage mainly discuss?A. trends in teaching mathematics to children.B. The use of mathematics in child psychology.C. The development of mathematical ability in children.D. The fundamental concepts of mathematics that children must learn.22. It can be inferred from the passage that children normally learn simple countingA. soon after they learn to talkB. by looking at the clockC. when they begin to be mathematically matureD. after they reach school grade in school23. According to the passage, when small children were asked to count a pile of red and blue pencils, they __A. counted the number of pencils of each otherB. counted the total number of pencilsC. counted only the pencils of their favorite colorD. subtracted the number of red pencils from the number blue pencils.24. The word "itself " in last sentence refers toA. the totalB. the concept of abstract numberC. any class of objectsD. setting a table25. The word "prerequisite" in paragraph two is closest in meaning toA. reasonB. theoryC. requirementD. techniquePassage 4More surprising, perhaps, than the current difficulties of traditional marriage is the fact that marriage itself is alive and thriving. As Skolnick notes, Americans are marrying people: relative to Europeans, more of us marry and we marry at a younger age. Moreover, after a decline in the early 1970s, the rate of marriage in the United States is now increasing. Even the divorce rate needs to be taken in this pro-marriage context: some 80 percent of divorced individuals remarry. Thus, marriage remains, by far, the preferred way of life for the vast majority of people in our society. What has changed more than marriage is the nuclear family. Twenty five years ago, the typical American family consisted of a husband, a wife, and two or three children. Now, there are many marriages in which couples have decided not to have any children. And there are many marriages where at least some of the children are from the wife' s previous marriage, or the husband' s, or both. Sometimes these children spend all of their time with one parent from the former marriage; sometimes they are shared between the two former spouses (配偶).Thus, one can find the very type of family arrangement. There are marriages without children; marriages with children from only the present marriage; marriages with "full-time" children from the present marriage and "part-time" children from former marriages. There are stepfathers, stepmothers, half-brothers, and half-sisters. It is not all that unusual for a child to have four parents and eight grandparents! These are enormous changes from the traditional nuclear family. But even so, even in the midst of all this, there remains one constant: most Americans spend most of their adult lives married.26. By calling Americans marrying people the author means thatA. Americans are more traditional than EuropeansB. Americans expect more out of marriage than EuropeansC. there are more married couples in U.S.A than in EuropeD. more of Americans, as compared with Europeans, prefer marriage and they accept it at a younger age27. Divorced AmericansA. will most likely remarryB. prefer the way they liveC. have lost faith in marriageD. are the vast majority of people in the society28, Which of the following can be presented as the picture of today's American families?A. A typical American family consists of only a husband and a wife,B. Many types of family arrangements have become socially acceptable.C. Americans prefer to have more kids than before.D. There are no nuclear families any more.29. "Part-time" childrenA. spend some of their time with their half-brothers and some of their time with their half-sistersB. spend all of their time with one parent from the previous marriageC. are shared between the two former spousesD. cannot stay with "full-time" children30. Even though great changes have taken place in the structure of American families,A. the functions of marriage remain unchangedB. most Americans prefer a second marriageC. the vast majority of Americans still have faith in marriageD. All of the abovePassage 5Students who score high in achievement needs tend to make higher grades in college than those who score low. When degree aptitude for college work, as indicated by College Entrance Examination Board Tests, is held constant, engineering students who score high in achievement needs tend to make higher grades in college than the aptitude test scores would indicate. We can define this need as the habitual desire to do useful work well. It is a noticeable influence characteristic of those who need little supervision. Their desire for accomplishment is a stronger motivation than any stimulation the supervisor can provide. Individuals who function in terms of this drive do not try to deceive others in regard to a job that they fail to do well. Some employees have a strong drive for success in their work: others are satisfied when they make a living. Those who want to feel that they are successful have high aspiration for themselves. Thoughts concerning the achievement drive are often prominent in the evaluations made by the typical employment interviewer who interviews college seniors for executive training. He wants to find out whether the senior has a strong drive to get ahead or merely to hold a job. Research indicates that some who get ahead have an even stronger drive to avoid failure.31. It can be inferred from the passage that individuals with a strong drive to succeedA. accept responsibility for themselvesB. blame others if they failC. are motivated by stimulation a supervisorD. pretended they haven' t failed when they have32. Employees who are successful in their work areA. self-satisfiedB. high-mindedC. ambitiousD. self-important33. What quality do employment interviewers look for in college seniors for executive training?A. Ability to hold down a job.B. High achievement needs.C. Capacity to work hard.D. Constant aptitude for work.34. What motivates some seniors to succeed?A. They are afraid of failing.B. They like living well.C. They want to become executives.D. They wish to do research work.35. Which is the main subject of this passage?A. Students' grades in college.B. Individual motivation for work.C. The achievement needs of engineering students.D. Successful interview techniques.Passage 6 Short Answer QuestionsDirectfons:In this part there Js a short passage with five questions or incomplete statements. Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements Zn the fewest possible words (not exceeding 10 words). For many women choosing whether to work or not to work outside their home is a luxury: they must work to survive. Others face a hard decision.Perhaps the easiest choice has to do with economics. One husband said "Marge and I decided after careful consideration that for her to back to work at this moment was an extravagance (奢侈) we couldn't afford." With two preschool children, it soon became clear in their figuring that with baby-sitters (临时照看小孩的人), transportation, and increased taxes, rather than having more money, they might actually end up with less.Economic factors are usually the first to be considered, but they are not the most important. The most important aspects of the decision have to do with the emotional needs of each member of the family. It is in this area that husbands and wives find themselves having to face many confusing and conflicting feelings. There are many women who find that homemaking is boring or who feel imprisoned (被囚禁) if they have to stay home with a young child or several children.
