These drinks also have very different uses.Tea drinking started in China over 4,000 years ago. Tea is made from leaves. These days, some people drink tea for health, using it to help with stress(压力) or losing weight. However, most people in tea-drinking countries think of tea as more than just a healthy drink. They are expected to produce clean and renewable energy. With solar panels on the surfaces, solar roads cost more than traditional roads. However, besides the functions of traditional roods, they have the panels to receive sunlight and change it into the energy to supply power to homes, factories and street lighting. There are four layers in a solar panel:•Base layer: It is made of insulation material and forms a good grip with the road below this layer.•Middle layer: This is the most important layer. It holds all kinds of power lines connecting all the solar parts in the panel, like LED lights and the heating system.•Top layer: This layer is super-strong glass. It allows the panel to hold the weight of the heaviest vehicles.•Capping: This is the topmost layer used to offer extra protection to the solar parts in the panel. The layer must be rough enough to provide the traction for the safety of vehicles. With the smart design, solar roads can successfully charge the vehicles on them. And the roads have inbuilt LED lights to replace the traditional rood signs and lines, which are usually painted and harmful to humans. What’s more, the heating systems in the solar roads can take care of the snow and ice on the roads for drivers.Test solar roads have been built in several countries (France, China, USA, etc.) since 2014. The first word solar road project, Metrics of Watt Way in France, was set up by a French company called Construction Colas. It was an example of low effectiveness. In the first year, it had been expected to produce around 767 kWh of energy a day, but it only produced 409 kWh. Even so, the production could increase with design improvements. Of course, more time is needed before this technology is put into use.Solar roads may not be widely used in the near future, but they are indeed great for an environment-friendly and energy-saving world.1. A mini-garden carried on China’s Chang’e-4 moon lander recently became home to the first plant to grow on another world. This is yet another success for Chang’e-4. On January 2, the probe(探测器) became the first lander to touch down on the far side of the moon. This is the unknown face of the moon that is always looking away from us, so we never see it from down here on the earth. Although it is often considered as the dark side of the moon, the far side actually gets as much sunshine as the near side. For example, when all we can see is a silver of a new moon, the far side of the moon is in full sunlight.Part of Chang’e-4’s mission(使命) is to see how a moon base could be built for humans, including exploring(探索) whether humans could grow food and other plant products there. Chang’e-4 carried a mini-garden with air, water and soil with seeds planted in it. When plants shoot on the earth, their stems grow away from the gravity (the force that keeps your feet on the ground), and so they always shoot upwards. The moon’s gravity is a sixth as strong as the earth’s, so Chang’e-4’s experiment was a test: would the earth plants k now which way was up on the moon? Four days after landing, a tiny cotton shoot showed that they do.Night has now fallen on the far side of the moon; sunlight will not return until the start of February. As a result, the cotton shoots died. Besides the dar kness, the plants can’t stand the cold (it can drop to -170℃ on the moon at night). However, the experiment is a success, since it has proved that it is possible for plants to grow in space.( )1.The text is mainly about .A.another success for Chan g’e-4B.Chang’e-4 moon landerC.tiny seeds in the soilD.the steps of an experiment( )2.Which of the following is TRUE about Chang’e-4?A.It carried a mini-garden.B.It landed on the near side of the moon.C.It explored the moon base.D.It found plants on the moon.( )3.From the text we can know that .A.the far side of the moon gets less sunlightB.we can see the far side of the moon from the earthC.the stems fail to grow away from the earth’s gravityD.the earth plants know the way to grow on the moon( )4.What can be inferred(推理) from the text?A.Plants can be grown on the moon soon.B.It is perfect to do experiments on the moon.C.The cotton shoots can last 4 days on the moon.D.We can see a new moon at the start of February.( )5.In which section of a magazine can you read the text?A.Health and sport.B.History and culture.C.Science and technology.D.Population and environment.三. 首字母阅读A)根据短文内容及首字母提示,写出所缺单词,使短文完整、通顺。

One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century. However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century.Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the year 1100.Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that countries rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers, magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm? In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulated(使绝缘) from heat or cold with paper. However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2,800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees tomake one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48,000 trees every day. The fact is that it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow.So we must start saving paper right now. We can use both sides of every piece of paper. We can make useful things out of used paper. We can use china cups instead of paper ones. When shopping, we can use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we have some.In short, we should keep a balance(平衡) between using paper and protecting trees, and do it now before it is too late.1.When did the Chinese begin to use paper money?A.In the 5th century.B.In the 6th century.C.In the 7th century.D.In the 15th century.2.Why did Canada become an important country in paper making?A.Because it was a large country.B.Because it had lots of forests.C.Because it was a very rich country.D.Because the inventor was from Canada.3.In Finland, paper is used for .A.making bedsB.reducing wasteC.making umbrellasD.keeping warm4.According to the passage, how many trees are needed to make one ton of paper?A.10.B.17.C.2,800.D.48,000.5.Paragraph 5 mainly talks about .A.how paper boots are madeB.how paper was inventedC.how we can save paperD.how we can make useful thingsBLong, long ago people made fires from lightning(闪电). But they had to keep the fire burning, for they couldn’t start it again if there was no lightning. Later, they found out hitting two pieces of stone together could make a spark(火花). The spark could fire dry leaves. In this way they could make the fire again if it went out. Then people also learned to make a fire by rubbing(摩擦). They made a hole on a piece of wood and put a smaller stick into the hole. They turned the stick again and again. After a few minutes they got a fire.As years went by, people learned other ways to make a fire. Sometimes they used the heat from the sun. They held a piece of glass in the right way and made a piece of paper on fire.About two centuries ago, people began to make matches. Matches brought people a quick and easy way to make fires. Today matches are still being used, but people have more new ways to make fires. One of them is to use an electric fire starter. Of course an electric fire starter is much more expensive than a box of matches. The most popular way to teach these young children another language is called immersion.Children in immersion programs hear only the new language in the classroom. The children play games, sing songs and talk to one another in the new language. Some experts say immersion programs are the most effective way for young children to learn a language. But there can be a problem when children in the United States begin to learn another language at such an early age. Not many elementary schools continue to teach a foreign language. Only seven of the fifty states require schools to teach a foreign language to students between the ages of six and twelve. Language experts say it is easier for younger children to learn a language. Our guide informed us that this was a Baobab tree and that they could live for hundreds of years.Compared with this tree, the elephant just looked like dwarfs (much smaller plants or animals)! We were informed that Tarangire was one of the best National Parks in Africa to see so many Baobab trees. As we continued our drive through the park, we finally reached a watering hole. Our guide warned us that there were lions all around us.It took us all a while to find them, but there they were! Most of them are resting in the shade under bushes, but there was one that was drinking from the watering hole directly in front of us.We then noticed just to our right, there were a couple of fresh zebra bodies — it seemed as if the lions which were resting had killed them! We were unlucky not to have seen the kill, as our guide had mentioned that the zebra bodies were fresh and the kill had happened within the last hour. Our final big sighting was one that none of us were expecting to see, even our guide! We stopped at a place where there were quite a many cars, with a sleeping leopard(美洲豹)there! They fought hard to drive the enemy out of Scotland, but there were too many Romans. It looked as if the Romans would win.One night, the leader of Scots marched his soldiers to the top of a hill. “We will rest here tonight,my men,”he said. “Tomorrow we will fight one more battle. We must win or we will die.”They were all very tired,so they ate their supper quickly and fell asleep. There were four guards on duty, but they, too, were very tired, and one by one, also fell asleep. The Romans were not asleep. Quickly they gathered at the foot of the hill. Slowly they climbed up the hillside, taking care not to make a sound. Closer and closer they came to the sleeping Scots. They were almost at the top. A few minutes more, the war would be over. Suddenly, one of them put his foot on a thistle(蓟). He cried out and his sudden cry woke the Scots. In a moment, they were on their feet and ready for battle. The fighting was hard but it did not last long. The Scots wiped out the Romans and saved their country. The thistle is not a beautiful plant. It has sharp needles all over it. Few people like it. 2024初中英语中考总复习任务型阅读专项练习一Are you an “I person” or an “E person”? These two personality labels (个性标签) are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters, and there are 16 results in total. “I” stands for “introverted (内向的)” and “E” refers to “extroverted”.Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an “I” person can still act outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an “E” person. According to experts, this is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in some situations. Because human beings want to get the sense of belonging by pleasing others.Using the MBTI result to identify (识别) and describe someone’s personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one time. My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P people” don’t like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” she asked back. “Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then I realized I’d taken the result too seriously. The M BTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends. And that’s all it is—for fun. Knowing someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t define (定义) who you are.阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

And I imagined that if there was something valuablein the wallet, the owner would be back. Sure enough, an hour later a man came up to the counter and asked if anyone had found a wallet. I asked him to describe the lost wallet, and after he described it exactly, I gave him the wallet. Heexpressed his thanks when I handed it to him. He asked me if I had opened it, and when I told him “no”. At once he opened it and showed that it had nearly $ 800 in cash. He took out a twenty-dollar bill and handed it to me and I was amazed at this. “A r eward for your honesty,” he said and then turned and walked away.Thinking about it later, I began wondering whether I would have been honest if I had known what was in the wallet! I thought that if I had no way to find the owner and no one returned to get it, I might keep it. But it also came into my mind that I actually saved someone’s Christmas plans by finding and returning the wallet. The good feeling it gave me was worth more than anything could buy.根据以上短文内容,然后从每题所给的四个选项中选择最佳选项。

If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer.5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside.(1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time?A. Beijing.B. Shanghai.C. Shenzhen.(2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?.A. 5G is widely used in China now.B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient.C.
Without music, life would be a mistake, "famous German philosopher(哲学家)Friedrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some American schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired over 1, 000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often. However, learning music is beneficial(有益的)in many ways. When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth K. Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music:Einstein played the violin and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.(1)Some schools in the US cut music classes, because ____.A. they were too difficult to learnB. students in the US weren't interested in musicC. the schools wanted to control budgetsD. there weren't enough music teachers in the US (2)In Paragraph 2, what does the underlined word "them" refer to(指代)?A. Students in Chicago.B. Public schools.C. Parents in Chicago.D. Fired teachers.(3)How many scientists who are good at playing music are mentioned in this passage? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.(4)What's the writer's opinion according to this passage?A. Music is as simple as it looks.B. Music classes should be cut in some schools.C. Music is a big part of our lives.D. Music isn't a very important life skill for us.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)B(4)C【解析】【分析】本文介绍了很多地区削减了音乐课以控制预算,这是不合适的,因为音乐在许多方面都是有益的。

She is fitted with a satellite tracking device(卫星跟踪仪). Her trip started on Oct. 18 from Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. The trip is known as the longest nonstop journey by one of these endangered seabirds. Before that, this kind of birds was known only to fly a few hundred miles from where they live, staying away for just a few days at a time. They usually fly over the sea. The scientists feel it strange that Lydia made such a long, nonstop journey and flew overland. So the above facts raise some serious questions about efforts to stop the decline(减少)of the birds. The number of the birds has fallen by 10 percent over the past 20 years.Besides, the scientists are surprised that she was away from her b8by for such a long time.
