Ladies and gentlemen,Good evening! It is a great pleasure to stand before you today and share my thoughts on the power of film and its impact on oral speech. As weall know, film is not just a medium of entertainment; it is a powerful tool that has the ability to inspire, educate, and connect us on aglobal scale. In this speech, I will explore how film has shaped the way we communicate through oral speech, and how it continues to influenceour lives today.Firstly, let us consider the origin of film and its evolution. The birth of cinema in the late 19th century marked the beginning of a new era in human communication. Prior to this, oral speech was the primary means of storytelling and cultural exchange. However, with the invention ofmotion pictures, we were able to capture the essence of human emotions and experiences in a visual format. This revolutionized the way we tell stories and share our thoughts with others. One of the most significant contributions of film to oral speech is the art of dialogue. Dialogue in films is not just a means of advancing the plot; it is a reflection of the way we speak in everyday life. directors and screenwriters often craft dialogue that resonates with audiences, making them laugh, cry, or ponder over the words spoken by the characters. By watching films, we learn how to express ourselves more effectively and understand the nuances of human communication.Consider, for instance, the classic film "The Godfather." The way Marlon Brando delivers his iconic line, "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse," captures the essence of persuasion and power. Through this line, we learn the importance of confidence and conviction in our speech. Similarly, the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" showcases the power of empathy and the importance of standing up for what is right, even whenit is not popular. These films teach us valuable lessons about how to communicate effectively in real-life situations. Moreover, film has played a crucial role in promoting diversity and inclusion through oral speech. Many films have been instrumental in highlighting the struggles and triumphs of different cultures, races, and genders. By listening to the voices of characters from various backgrounds, we gain a deeper understanding of the world around us and learn to appreciate the diversity of human experiences. This, in turn, enhances our own communication skills as we become more open-minded and empathetic listeners.Another fascinating aspect of film's impact on oral speech is the use of voiceovers and narrations. Voiceovers have the power to transport us to different times and places, while narrations provide context and emotional depth to the story. They are essential tools for conveying complex ideas and emotions through oral speech. Think of the voiceoverin "Inception," which takes us on a mind-bending journey through the layers of dreams. This technique not only enhances the storytelling but also challenges us to think critically about the way we perceive reality.Furthermore, film has become a platform for social activism and advocacy. Many documentaries and feature films have brought attention to pressing global issues, such as climate change, human rights, and social justice. By raising awareness through oral speech, these films encourage us to take action and become better citizens. The Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" is a prime example of how oral speech in filmcan inspire change. In addition to its educational and social impact, film has also influenced the way we consume and produce oral speech in our daily lives. With the advent of streaming services and social media, we are now exposed to a plethora of content that requires us to engage in oral speech more actively. Commenting on YouTube videos, participating in online discussions, and creating content ourselves have become integral parts of our communication repertoire. Film has equipped us with the skills to navigate this digital landscape and express ourselves effectively. In conclusion, the power of film in shaping oral speech cannot be overstated. From the art of dialogue to the use of voiceovers, film has become an indispensable tool for storytelling, education, and social change. It has the ability to inspire, educate, and connect us, makingit an invaluable resource in our quest for effective communication. As we continue to embrace the power of film, let us not forget the importance of oral speech in our lives. Whether we are watching a movie, engaging in a conversation, or speaking in public, the way we express ourselves through oral speech has the potential to influence the world around us. So, let us learn from the masterful storytelling of film, and strive to become better communicators, listeners, and human beings.Thank you for your attention, and I hope you have gained a deeper appreciation for the power of film in shaping our oral speech. Let us continue to explore the world of cinema and its many wonders together.Thank you.。

A crowded and cluttered living room in a low-income townhouse. Stansfieldbends over to see Leon lying in his own pool of imaginary blood that soaks intothe already stained carpet. Leon uses his last ounce of strength to lift hisclenched fist up to Stansfield. He opens to reveal a grenade pin, “ForMathilda…At maybe thirteen years old, this might have very well been my directorialdebut. I had just watched The Professional earlier that week and was telling mycousins about it. Describing the whole movie I arrived at the climax and decidedthat I really wanted for them to capture how the ending played out. So I setthem up, fed them their lines and fetched a few props, or in our case whateverresembled a weapon. I tried my best to describe to my acting cousins how to playeach part. Eventually, with all the noise we created, we gathered the family andheld an impromptu performance.I would like to say that this was the moment that I realized that I wantedto be apart of the film industry. That at that very second in time, everythingsimply clicked for me and I knew what I wanted to do therest of my life. Ofcourse this wasnâ€Ⅲt the case. It was a gradual decision and agreement withmyself that I found my senior year of high school. Like choosing which child youlove more, I had to choose which dream to follow. That of music which I havebeen involved with for so long, or that of a newly found passion, cinema. I wasweighing more towards the latter when I discovered a school that offered Cinemain my home state of Virginia, it felt like a godsend. Okay, maybe I was beingoverly dramatic, but nonetheless, I decided that I wanted to go to VirginiaCommonwealth University for cinema.Being accepted into VCUâ€Ⅲs Photography/Film, I found out about theactual Cinema program a bit late to apply effectively. So I decided to dedicatemy first year to prepare myself for cinema. I chose to major in Philosophy, which would be my intended secondary major should I be admitted, for my interestand curiosity in politics and everyday life. It would in addition help mecreatively, crafting more intellectual and meaningful waysto portray messagesin film. Also, working at Media and Reserves in James Branch Cabell Library hasalso helped me with its extensive collection of great movies. From Stalker toTalking to Strangers, I have taken the adviceIâ€Ⅲve read from manyfilmmakers, “Watch a lot ofmovies.I started out like many young filmmakers my generation, with animagination, a few friends and a handicam. I would directand shootstraight-to-You-Tube short films about anything and everything. Starting withthe time traveling Sylvia Plath to music videos and of course, the ever-popularStar Wars fan films. Eventually, with the popularity of my shorts, my name gotaround school and I was offered a job as a video editor through a peerâ€Ⅲsaunt and her wedding videography business. During this time, I had theopportunity to shoot with a more satisfying camera. I took advantage of thechance and started the production of a new project. Taking a different approachwith his short film, I decided that now with a more professional camera, everything else should be taken up a notch as well. I worked harder duringpre-production, developing the script and casting actors besides my closefriends, specifically adults. With the story taking place in my school, I shotduring class hours which upped the production value however also added a lot offactors to work against me. I had to fight against the clock as well somerushing teachers. In the end, we created a satisfying ten-minute short,Yanni. After I showed just about everyone I knew the movie, I passed a flyer for a5-Minute Video Competition displayed in my school. I was really excited for thisuntil I read that the deadline was in a few days. I settled on submitting Yanniand cutting five minutes off of an already taut movie. A few days went by and Ireceived information on an awards ceremony for all the competitors and that Iwas a finalist for the contest. The day of the ceremony, I walked into the dimlylit high school gymnasium and saw all of the other contestants. I spoke to somerandom Comcast superior, whose company sponsored the event, and after a bit ofunintended schmoozing, had a seat in the back corner. I felt kind of alone beingthe only competitor to represent my high school. All of the other kids werelaughing around the platters of food describing their favorite parts in eachotherâ€Ⅲs submissions. The ceremony had begun and the projectors began toroll. I was beginning to get nervous to see how others would react to my film. However, hopefully without sounding too ostentatious, to my surprise the videosI saw lacked much merit. Most were home movie-esque images of themselves playinglacrosse laced with title shots and sound effects. Still, I slouched down in myseat when my video was next in line. I think it was well received by theaudience after it was shown. There were three otherfinalists in my category. Mymispronounced name was called to stage second receiving an honorable mention. Icouldnâ€Ⅲt help but have a big grin on my face when I walked up and shookthe announcers hand. Afterwards, I mingled with some of the contestants and wecongratulated one another. A few numbers were exchanged and some ideas forcollaborating were brought up. I left that night feeling accomplished andcompelled to continue my life as a filmmaker.。
