如Adela 、Manchester 、NATO 。
名著阅读(二) 《格列佛游记》《海底两万里》A(One day, Gulliver was caught in a storm and his ship hit a rock, then damaged. He was washed to the beach by sea wave.He walked and walked to find a city, but he was too tired and felt asleep. When he woke up, he found himself in Lilliput and a lot of tiny people were around him.) The Emperor spoke in a high voice but I could hear all the words clearly. His followers and all the ladies wore rich and beautiful clothes. The ground where they were standing looked like gold and silver cloth. His Majesty and I often spoke to each other but neither of us understood a single word. I tried words from many languages—Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and Latin. No one could understand my words, not even the cleverest of the Emperor's followers. After about two hours the Emperor left. His wife, children and their servants also went. There were strong guards around me. This was to stop the crowd of people from hurting me.An officer told the guards to hold six men who made me angry. These men were given to me and I had to choose their punishment. I put five of them in my pocket. Then I pretended(假装) to eat the sixth man.The poor man screamed terribly. The guards were worried when they saw my knife in my hand. Was I going to cut up the man? But I only cut the binding(捆绑物) round his hands. Then I put him on his feet and let him go. I lifted the other five men out of my pocket and put them gently on the ground too.The people and the soldiers were very pleased with my great kindness. They told the Emperor about it immediately. The Emperor ordered his men to make a bed for me and they had to join six hundred of their little beds together to make one bed for me.At the same time the Emperor asked all his advisers for their advice on how to deal with. They were very worried. If my binding was cut, I might be dangerous. I was eating so much food that soon all the people would be very hungry. The farmers could not grow enough food to feed all of us.The wise men thought that they should kill me. But they would not be able to bury(埋葬) me. My dead body would smell. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus had surfaced(浮出水面). I would go out and see the sunrise. Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to escape. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea to being on land.”“I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained that he had made diving suits(潜水服) that used special air tanks. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. He had also made lights that worked in electric batteries. When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We must go through it, and we were in the sea floor. It was an amazing experience. We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper. Two hours later, we were a hundred metres under the water. The suits worked very well, and it was easy to walk and breathe. At one hundred metres deep, we could still see quite well, and Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” in the forest were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical(垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small shrubs(灌木) grew under the large seaweed trees. Some of them had flowers. We walked through this forest for about an hour, and then we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but I was very sleepy. The 21st century. That would make you young, creative, connected, world-wide, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right? But what do other people think about your generation? Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the “face-down generation” because you use your phone so much. They wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoilt(溺爱) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents”. They were always there to guide and help their children with a busy program filled with homework and after-school activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many oftoday’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school. So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Lavinia had managed to pass Sara's room when the door was open, and had seen Mariette opening a box which had arrived late from some shop.“It was full of beautiful dresses,” she whispered to her friend Jessie. “I saw her shaking them out. It became a World Heritage Site in 1987.The city got its name from the Roman Baths, which was a place for public bathing in Roman Britain. The water there is naturally heated under the ground. Today visitors are no longer allowed to enter the water. However, the exhibitions there will tell you the history of the Roman Baths. You can see many ancient Roman objects, including the coins that were thrown into the water to show respect to the goddess.Looking over the city, you will see many old buildings in the colour of honey. Among them, the Royal Crescent and the Circus are the most famous. The Royal Crescent is a row of 30 houses in the shape of crescent(新月). The Circus is about 200 meters to the east of the Royal Crescent. It is a huge circle formed with large townhouses. It is divided into three parts of the same length by three entrances with a lawn in the center. When visiting Bath, you can't miss these two sites. The museums in the city are also popular. You can go and appreciate western paintings. If you are interested in the English writer Jane Austen, you can go to Jane Austen Center to know more about her life with her father in Bath. If you e in October, you can even take part in the Bath Film Festival.根据上面短文内容填空。

I dug around that tree and found the treasure. I was living in a cave, so I took the treasure to the cave. This morning, when Long John Silver and his men came to look for the treasure, I showed myself to one of them. He thought I was a ghost.” Ben laughed. “He ran off, and this gave me time to get back to the squire(乡绅) and the doctor. They were waiting at the cave.”“Now I know,” I said to the doctor, “why you gave the map to Silver.”“It was useless by then,” the doctor said. “There was no buried treasure. Ben Gunn had it. My plan was to get Long John Silver and his men away from the stockade(木寨). We could then get some stores from it.”When we got back to the cave, the squire was waiting for us.“Three of the mutineers(反叛者) got away,” the doctor told him. “But if we hurry, we can get to the boat before them. Let us know ‘your view’.Comments:Museums are not only there for enjoyment; they are education. This is why they must be free. While museums need a huge amount of money to operate, let the wealthy pay for it. The idea of a person or child interested in art not being able to view it because of cost is wrong.Krista Chen (US)—Age15 Free entry does not attract people or encourage them to appreciate art. Generally people respect things that are difficult or costly to get. Museums should require regular visitors to pay a fee, but provide free tickets as prizes for high-achieving students who can appreciate them more.Fred Smith (New Zealand)—Age14 Museums teach people about their past. This is part of our shared culture that should be available to everyone, rich or poor. People should never be asked to pay an entrance fee.Rob Sanchez (Australia)—Age17 There are no simple answers. Low ticket prices could help museums stay open. But companies andbusinessmen should also provide museums with more money and other support. They have a social responsibility too.Amber White (UK)—Age16I think museums and art galleries should all be free to the public. From playing video games to dancing to K-POP, streamers are making big money simply by sharing their daily lives with the world. Some streamers even become world-famous, especially e-sports players like Shroud and Ninja. I don't really watch a lot of livestreams. When it comes to gaming, I'd rather play video games myself than watch someone else play them. But I understand that some gamers might watch them to pick up playing tips. Sometimes live streaming is a bit vain. A lot of streamers are just doing it for the attention. That being said, I've also found some good streams. For example, one streamer I used to watch would hang a sign around her neck that asked for tips. When her tips reached a certain amount, she would put a metal bowl on her head and hit it with a wooden spoon. It was weird(怪异的),but I just couldn't stop watching sometimes. I'd never seen anything quite like it before. Other streams can show us things that we wouldn't usually get to see. Since you can start your own live stream with just a smartphone, even people in the countryside can show us their lives. 名著阅读(一) 《小公主》《最后一片叶子》A [2019·镇江二模]When Sara entered the schoolroom the next morning, everybody looked at her with wide, interested eyes. By that time every pupil—from Lavinia Herbert, who was nearly thirteen and felt quite grown up, to Lottie Legh, who was just four and the baby of the school—had heard a great deal about her. They knew very certainly that she was Miss Minchin's show pupil and was considered a credit to the school(为校争光的人). One or two of them had even caught a glimpse(瞥) of her French maid(女仆), Mariette, who had arrived the evening before. Lavinia had managed to pass Sara's room when the door was open, and had seen Mariette opening a box which had arrived late from some shop.“It was full of beautiful dresses,” she whispered to her friend Jessie. “I saw her shaking them out. I heard Miss Minchin say to Miss Amelia that her clothes were too good for a child. My mamma says that children should be dressed simply. She has got one of those dresses on now. I saw it when she sat down.”“She isn't pretty as other pretty people are,” said Jessie, stealing a glance across the room, “but she makes you want to look at her again. She has very long eyelashes, but her eyes are almost green.”Sara was sitting quietly in her seat, waiting to be told what to do. She had been placed near Miss Minchin's desk. She was not shy or nervous at all by the many pairs of eyes watching her. She was interested and looked back quietly at the children who looked at her. She wondered what they were thinking of, and if they liked Miss Minchin, and if they cared for their lessons, and if any of them had a papa at all like her own. She had had a long talk with Emily about her papa that morning. “He is on the sea now, Emily,” she had said. “We must be very grea t friends to each other and tell each other things. Emily, look at me.
