They say they have original designs and ideas, but they don’t give any examples. I’d like to know more about their campaigns and their clients. The only thing they do say is that they are cheaper than the others—but do they give value for money? I could find more about them, but if a marketing company can’t sell itself, can it sell for us? I like Verity’s idea o f working closely with us at every stage of the process ... I think we need something like that. They seem to me to be a good company, and all the people who have worked with them tell me that they do exactly as they say — they work with you, and they don’t mess you around.Andrew Hodge: And Impact?Stephen Johnson: That’s the problem. They are good, very good. They are very expensive, but they do a fantastic job. If you look at their list of satisfied customers, it is as long as your arm. They are a young team, very professional, very innovative… but they are a bit light on their management consultancy side — they know it too, so they have brought in an outside partner. They will do a very good campaign, but we will have to organize it a lot more for them — their service is less complete.Andrew Hodge: So they do less, but do it well?Stephen Johnson: Very well. And their Return On Investment is apparently very good, so they are cheaper than they look.Andrew Hodge: So it’s going to be Impact then?Stephen Johnson: Well, if we end up with Impact, it will be no bad thing. But I have been talking to George Halds at Verity —they have a new young employee, Sandra Sean. She’s got some original ideas, and they want to give her a try on a big project. And she is almost as good as Impact in one way — they tried to poach her from Verity earlier this year!26. What is the main objection to Transworld? ( )A. Not enough detail.B. Not convincing.C. Many companies have set up nap rooms with beds, blankets and alarm clocks because they have recognized that most of their employees do not have enough sleep. If labor unions are truly interested in worker welfare , they should make such facilities a necessary item in contract negotiation.A brief nap makes people feel refreshed and relaxed. If workers take advantage of the opportunity to sleep for twenty minutes or so during the workday, they can go back to work with renewed enthusiasm and energy. Dr. Linda Pitt, for example, often manages to take a ten-minute nap between patient. She says that this respite helps her focus better on each patient' s problems. Also, there are companies that encourage their employees to take naps. They find that napping reduces accidents and errors and increases productivity, even if it shortens the workday a bit. A recent NASA study showed that twenty-four-minute naps greatly improved a pilot' s alertness and performance on long-distance flights.Studies have found that sleepy workers make more mistakes and cause more accidents. They are more likely to have heart attacks and other physical disorders. Dr. David Jones, a sleep researcher at Harvard, explained that the brain becomes less active when it fails to get enough sleep. It has been proved that lack of sleep affects attention and performance. It often leads to "microsleeps" , that is, involuntary lapses into sleep. These "microsleeps" often cause accidents. He suggested taking a "power nap" during the day to prevent the effects of sleep loss."Naps greatly strengthen the ability to pay close attention to details and to make critical decisions, " added Dr. Jones. He also stated that "a nap taken about eight hours after you wake can do much more for you than if you add those twenty minutes onto already adequate sleep at night. "21 According to the writer, many companies now______.(A)start to negotiate with employees(B)set up labor unions for employees(C)provide nap rooms for employees(D)provide paid leaves for employees22 The underlined word "respite"(para. 2)probably means_____.(A)test(B)case(C)idea(D)break23 By taking a "power nap" , one can avoid_____. (A)heart attacks(B)possible accidents(C)brain diseases(D)physical disorders24 According to Dr. Jones, people benefit a lot from____. (A)taking naps regularly(B)paying attention to details(C)making good choices(D)sleeping eight hours a day25 The tone of the writer is_____.(A)objective(B)sympathetic(C)emotional(D)understanding25 Judging from business profits, we should be enjoying a powerful economic recovery. During the depression, profits dropped by about 30%. But now profits grow every day. In the first quarter of this year, profits have recovered 87% of what they lost in the depression depression. When second— quarter results ate out, profits may rise above their previous peak. The recovery in profits should be a good sign. It makes companies more aggressive. They have a huge amount of money and ate able to do whatever they want-hire, make new investments, raise salaries. Historically, higher profits lead to higher employment. Yet, except for new companies, loss-making companies don't create new jobs.So far, the contrast between recovered profits and small job growth is surprising. Last year, employment dropped 3. 3 million. Since then, the economy has recovered only 11% of those lost jobs. Companies ate doing much better than workers; that' s a characteristic of today' s a characteristic of today' s economy. The most obvious explanation is that the relationship between labor and capital has changed. Capital has become stronger, labor has become weaker. The situation has made business managers eager to cut costs in depressions and unwilling to hire workers early in recoveries. Reducing the number of employees is the quickest way to recover profits. The big job cuts in this depression should not have been surprising. With the breakdown of the financial system, companies had to do everything they can to save money , because they couldn' t rely on outside money. So they cut jobs and new investment projects. Last year, business investment dropped 26%. Nothing like that had happened since the 1940s.However, there ate some good signs. Many companies have started to replace their old equipment. This can create new jobs. General Electric says its research budget is up 18% and it supports new product development. But it' s not clear whether business leaders were so scared by the crisis that they' ve become extremely cautious. That is bad. If labor is scared and capital is overcautious, the recovery must suffer.26 The passage shows the economy is getting better as profits have___.(A)almost doubled(B)recovered steadily(C)reached a new high(D)made up for the losses27 According to paragraph 2, in the past, increased profits led to an increase in____. (A)investment(B)jobs(C)new companies(D)salaries28 To recover profits quickly, business managers often choose to____.(A)reduce employment(B)increase work hours(C)Increase productivity(D)move into new areas29 The writer seems to think of the big job cuts in this depression as______.(A)shocking(B)avoidable(C)confusing(D)acceptable30 The writer thinks a real economic recovery requires___.(A)patience(B)experience(C)confidence(D)intelligence30 In last week' s Science, a group of leading investigators led by John Beddington, the chief science adviser for the British government, published a call warning climate change has become a growing threat to agricultural production and food security. In other words, the potential risks to fanning are another reason why we need to reduce the carbon in the air. And the fact that the climate is already changing, and will continue to change, means that we also need to start adapting agriculture to a warmer world immediately. How exactly could climate change lower our ability to feed ourselves? Warming alone could do it, with already hot and dry places—like the American Southwest or the Horn of Africa—predicted to become hotter and drier. The terrible droughts that have affected Texas and East Africa lead to an extreme shortage of food in the latter case. While additional carbon in the air may help some plants, warmer temper temperatures can also slow down growth, so extreme heat could lead to greater crop loss. It's not just drought, though; rain at the wrong time can be extremely bad for agriculture as well. That was obvious during the great floods in Pakistan in 2010, which not only killed thousands of people but also washed away crops. Those losses helped drive food prices to record highs during the past year, a level from which they're only now beginning to drop. As the atmosphere warms, it can hold more water, which means we can expect heavier storms when the rain does fall.Warming isn't the only threat to our ability to feed ourselves. 2024年1月自考英语二考试真题及答案全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Certainly! Here is a 2,000 word essay in the voice of an elementary school student, written in English, about the January 2024 Self-Study English Test II Exam Questions and Answers:The January 2024 Self-Study English Test II Exam!Hey guys! It's me again, your favorite elementary school kid here to tell you all about the big English test I just took. It was the January 2024 Self-Study English Test II exam. Wow, that's a really long name! But I'm getting ahead of myself.Let me start from the beginning. A few months ago, my mom and dad told me I needed to take this huge English test. They said it was really important for getting into a good university later on. I wasn't too excited at first because, well, tests can be kind of boring. But then they promised me ice cream if I did well, so I agreed to study hard!My parents got me some really thick books to prepare. They had chapters on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and even listening practice. The grammar part was probably the hardest for me. Who knew English had so many crazy rules about verbs, nouns, adjectives, and all that? My tutor tried her best to make it fun though. We played games like quiz shows and acted out little skits using the grammar I was learning. The vocabulary was a little easier because I like learning new words. My favorite was "serendipity" which means a happy unexpected discovery. See, I'm using my new vocabulary already! The reading comprehension sections helped me practice too. I had to read all kinds of stories and articles, then answer questions about the main ideas, characters, plot, and other details. Writing was interesting as I got to be creative and share my thoughts through essays and stories. Finally, there was the listening portion. Those tracks were tough because they spoke so fast! I had to listen carefully to conversations between characters, lectures, and news reports. Then I had to identify the mainpoints, speakers' attitudes, and other things like that. It took a lot of practice with my headphones on.Anyway, after weeks of studying hard, it was finally time for the big test day. I was a little nervous, but tried my best to stay calm like my parents said. The exam had sections just like thepractice materials - grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and listening. I worked relentlessly, putting all my new skills to use. When I finally bubbled in that last answer, I felt such a sense of relief! The test was over and I could just sit back and wait for the results. A few weeks later, the scores arrived and...I passed! I got a really high mark too. My parents were overjoyed and took me out for the biggest ice cream sundae ever to celebrate. All that hard work had paid off.Looking back, I realize how much I've grown in English. Before studying, a lot of it seemed like mumbo-jumbo. But now words, sentences, even long passages make sense to me. It's like I unlocked a secret code to understanding this whole other language. Who knows, maybe I'll be a writer, translator, or English teacher someday! For anyone else facing this exam in the future, here's my advice: Study hard, don't get discouraged, and always keep practicing. Those practice books and tutoring sessions helped me so much. And when test day comes, just relax, focus, and let all that preparation show through. Oh, and one more thing - don't forget to enjoy an epic ice cream celebration when you pass! That's all I've got to say about my big English exam adventure. It was challenging but amazing at the same time. I'm really proud of myself for sticking with it. And who knows what other cool linguistics mysteries I'll uncover next? The world of English continues to unfold before me! Okay, I'll stop rambling now. Thanks for listening, guys! Let me know if you need any other elementary school kid wisdom.篇2My English Test for Grown-UpsHi friends! My name is Timmy and I'm 8 years old. I love learning new things, especially English! My mom and dad are taking a big English test for grown-ups called the "Self-Taught English Test 2." They've been studying really hard, so I decided to make up my own test for them to practice. I hope you enjoy my questions and answers!Part 1: ReadingOne day, my friend Jake and I were playing outside. The sunny sky turned grey and it started raining cats and dogs! We ran inside to stay dry.Question 1: What's another way to say "it rained really hard?"A) It rained kittens and puppiesB) It rained cats and dogsC) It rained bucketsD) It rained elephants and hip篇3The Big English Test Adventure!Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm going to tell you all about the crazy adventure I had taking the big English test this year. It was super important because it helps decide if I get to go to the middle school I really want to go to next year. I was really nervous about it, but I studied really hard and I think I did a pretty good job!The test had four parts - listening, reading, writing, and translating. I'm going to go through each one and let you know how it went. Get ready for an exciting tale!ListeningFor the listening part, we had to listen to recordings and answer multiple choice questions about what we heard. I thought this would be the hardest part for me, but it actually wasn't too bad!The first recording was about a boy named Jack and his pet dog Rufus. Jack was telling his mom all about the fun things he and Rufus liked to do together, like go for walks in the park and play fetch. The questions asked things like what Rufus' name was and where they went for walks. Easy peasy! Then there was a longer recording that was sort of like a short story. It was about two friends, Emma and Sofia, who really wanted to go to the new water park that opened up in their town. But their parents said they had to earn the money for the tickets themselves. So they decided to set up a lemonade stand to make money. There were lots of funny details about the crazy stuff that happened while they were running their lemonade stand. Like a bunch of bees came because the lemonade was so sweet! And a big dog knocked over their whole stand at one point. The questions about that one were a little trickier, but I feel like I got most of them right.ReadingFor the reading part, we had two passages to read and then had to answer comprehension questions about them. One was pretty straightforward, just a simple story about a boy who really wanted a puppy for his birthday. The other one was a bit harder - it was more like an article about space exploration. The puppy story questions were simple stuff like "What did Tommy want for his birthday?" and "Why did he think his parents wouldn't get him a puppy at first?" For the space one, the questions were things like "According to the passage, what are some of the challenges of sending astronauts to Mars?" and "Which piece of new technology is helping make long-distance space travel more possible?" I'm not super into science and space, so that one was pretty difficult for me. But I tried my best!WritingThen came the writing section, which is usually my favorite part. For the first writing task, we had to read a short story about a girl who went on a camping trip with her family. We were supposed to write a new ending to the story in about 120 words. In the original story, they were all having a great time camping and hiking and looking at nature. Until the last lines which said "Suddenly, dark clouds filled the sky and they heard aloud clap of thunder. What would happen next?" So I had to continue from there and wrap it up.I wrote about how they all quickly ran back to their tent to take shelter from the storm. Then I described a huge thunderstorm with flashes of lightning and heavy rain pouring down. Their tent started leaking and they all got soaked! But then the sun came out again after the storm passed, and they built a campfire to dry off. They ended up having a great time after all, roasting marshmallows and telling stories. I thought my ending was pretty good! The second writing task was an opinion essay prompt. We had to write approximately 200 words in response to the question "Do you think kids should be allowed to have mobile phones? Why or why not?"Those prompts are always so tricky because you're supposed to discuss both sides. So I started by saying that I do think kids should be allowed phones for safety reasons, like being able to call their parents if needed. But then I discussed some of the downsides too, like kids maybe getting distracted and playing games instead of paying attention in class.Overall, I argued for allowing phones but with some rules, like only being allowed to use them at certain times. And maybeparents having ways to monitor and limit the apps/games. I tried to acknowledge the different perspectives and find a balanced stance. Writing has always been one of my strengths, so I felt pretty confident about that section.TranslationThe translation part was pretty wild! For some reason, instead of the typical format of translating sentences from English to our native language or vice versa, this test had us translating between English and some made-up fantasy language. It was so weird! The made-up language used the Latin alphabet but with a bunch of crazy made-up words that looked sort ofEnglish-inspired but not really. Like "glomped" and "turven" and "spront." Super random! I've never seen anything like it.We had to translate short passages between this weird fantasy language and English in both directions. Definitely the strangest part of the test for me. I just kind of had to use context clues from the rest of the passage to try to figure out what the made-up words might mean and do my best. Some of the translator instructions said things like "It is very important that spronts dopple the turven daily to remain jordy."Using clues from the full paragraph around it, I guessed that "spronts" might mean some kind of animal/creature, "turven" might be their food/grass, "dopple" could be "eat", and "jordy" could mean "healthy." So my translation was "It is very important that [creatures] eat their [grass/food] daily to remain [healthy]."I have no idea if I got those right or not! That entire translation section was pretty much a crazy guessing game. But it was kind of fun in a weird way too? I'd never experienced anything like that on a test before! The End?Phew, that's finally the end of my test day saga! Looking back, although parts of it were pretty strange and challenging, I think I held my own overall. Some sections like writing went well, while others like the fantasy translation were just flat-out bizarre.I'm really hoping I did well enough to get into that middle school program I want. But no matter what, it was definitely an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind exam experience! An adventure for the books. Thanks for letting me share my wild test day story. I'll leave you with one of the made-up words to ponder - what on earthcould "glomped" possibly mean?? Who knows! But I sure had fun trying to figure it out.篇4My English Exam Adventure!Hi friends! I'm so excited to tell you about the big English exam I took last month. It was the January 2024 self-taught English Test 2 and let me tell you, it was quite an adventure! The exam had four parts - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. I was a little nervous at first, but I studied really hard with my English tutor. She helped me practice all the different sections. For the listening part, we had to listen to recordings and answer multiple choice questions. There were conversations between people, news reports, and even a story! One of the conversations was between two friends deciding what movie to watch. The reading section had longer passages to read and questions to answer too.My favorite was the writing section! We had to write a short essay responding to a prompt. The prompt asked us to describe our favorite family tradition and why it is meaningful. I wrote allabout how my family always goes camping in the summer and we roast marshmallows over the campfire. I love falling asleep in the tent listening to the crickets! Then there was the speaking part. We had to answer questions and describe pictures out loud while being recorded. One of the pictures showed a busy city scene with tall buildings and people walking down the street. I tried to use lots of descriptive words like "towering" and "bustling."After the exam, my tutor went over the answers with me. I did pretty well on the listening and reading, but I made a few silly mistakes on the writing by forgetting some punctuation. She said my speaking was good except I accidentally mixed up "borrow" and "lend" when answering one of the questions. Oops!Overall though, I felt really proud for challenging myself with this big exam. My tutor said I worked hard and showed great improvement in all my English skills. She thinks I'll do even better next time! Now I can't wait for my results to arrive in the mail. Hopefully I did well enough to get that new bike my parents promised if I pass! Keeping my fingers crossed.Well, that's all about my big English exam day. It was kind of stressful but also kind of fun! I'm just glad it's over and I can relax for a little while. Thanks for listening to my story. Let me know if you've ever taken a big test like this too!Your friend,[Your Name]Listening Section:A: What movie do you want to see?B: I'm not sure. Maybe an action film?A: Okay, how about the new superhero one that just came out?B: Works for me! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I just took the big English Level 2 self-study exam in January 2024 and I wanted to tell you all about it! It was a really exciting experience.First, I had to sign up and pay the fees a few months before the exam. My parents helped me with that part. Then I spent a lot of time studying English vocabulary, grammar rules, reading comprehension strategies, and writing skills. It was hard work but I tried my best! Finally, exam day arrived on January 12th, 2024. I was so nervous that morning! My stomach felt like it had a million butterflies fluttering around inside. But I remembered to take some deep breaths like my teacher showed us. I ate a good breakfast too to keep my energy up.The exam was held at my local high school. There were lots of students there, some young like me and some adults too. We all had to show our identification and sign in before being allowed into the testing room. The room was really big with rowsand rows of individual desks. I found my assigned seat and tried to relax.Once everyone was seated, the exam proctors gave us our test booklets and scrap paper. They read the rules out loud – no cheating, no talking, no leaving the room except for bathroom breaks. I was ready! The first section was listening comprehension. We had to listen to audio recordings of conversations and answer multiple choice questions about what we heard. Some of the accents were really hard to understand at first! But I focused really carefully and used the strategies I had practiced.Next up was reading comprehension. We read some passages and answered questions proving we understood the main ideas, details, vocabulary words, and the author's purpose. There were a few really long passages that made my eyes get a little tired halfway through. I made sure to take a break and blink my eyes when that happened. The hardest part for me was the written composition section. We had to write a short essay responding to a prompt about our favorite books. I planned out my thesis and examples first like my teacher taught me. Then I wrote and rewrote my draft, checking over my spelling, grammar, and organization. Phew! After that was the grammar section which was actually kind of fun for me. I love learning about parts of speech, verb tenses, and sentence structures. There were some tricky questions but I tried using process of elimination when I got stuck. Finally, the last part was the oral interview section. One at a time, we went into a private room with a examiner and had a conversation in English. The examiner asked me questions about my hobbies, family life, future goals and other topics. I did my best to respond clearly and naturally. Practicing conversational English with my parents really paid off! When everything was over, I felt so proud of myself for working so hard and making it through the whole four-hour exam. A couple months later, I got my results in the mail – I passed! I have an official certificate now proving my English skills. Yay!Even though some parts of the exam were super challenging, it was an awesome experience overall. I learned a lot and feel more confident than ever in my English abilities now. I'm so glad I took this opportunity to test myself. If you're thinking about taking the self-taught English exam, I totally recommend it! Just make sure you study really hard beforehand. Learn all the grammar concepts, practice yourreading comprehension, do lots of writing exercises, and work on your listening and speaking skills too. Don't be nervous on exam day because you'll be well-prepared.Let me know if you have any other questions! I'm happy to share more tips about my exam experience. Study hard and you can pass the English Level 2 exam too! Thanks for reading my story.篇6My January Self-Study English TestHi! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I just took a really big test called the January 2024 Self-Study English Test 2. It was super hard but I tried my best. I want to tell you all about the questions and my answers! The first part was listening comprehension. They played some audio recordings and asked questions about what we heard. One was about a family going on vacation. The dad was trying to pack but kept forgetting things. His daughter helped him remember stuff like his toothbrush and phone charger. I had to answer questions like "What did the daughter remind her dad to pack?"Another listening was about two friends deciding what movie to see. One wanted an action movie but the other wanted a comedy. They went back and forth for a while but finally picked a funny superhero movie they both liked. A question was "What kind of movie did the friends decide to see?"Next was the reading section. We had to read some passages and answer comprehension questions on them. One story was about a brave firefighter who rescued a little girl from a burning building. He carried her out on his shoulders. A question was "How did the firefighter get the girl out of the fire?"Another reading was about the history of basketball. It explained who invented it and how the rules were created. There was a question like "Based on the passage, how did the sport of basketball originate?"The writing section was hard! We had to write a letter to our teacher about our favorite school subject and why we enjoy it. I wrote about how much I love science class because we get to do cool experiments. I described making a baking soda and vinegar volcano. Hopefully I explained it clearly enough!Grammar was probably the easiest part for me. They tested things like subject-verb agreement, pronoun usage, and verb tenses. One question was "John and I _____ going to the parklater." You had to pick the right verb to agree with the compound subject.Vocabulary asked us to fill in blanks with words based on the sentence context. Like "My puppy is very _____ and loves fetching sticks." You'd put a word meaning energetic or active. Some of those stumped me!All in all, it was a tough test over reading, writing, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. I felt okay about my answers for most of it. But those listening passages went by so fast, I may have missed some details. I'll find out my score soon though!Even though tests can be stressful, I know it's important to always try your best. That way you can show what you've learned so far. And any mistakes are okay, because that's how we learn for next time. I'm just happy I worked really hard and didn't give up!Whew, that's everything I can remember about my big English test day. Getting through all those sections took concentration, but also a little brain break times. Tests are no fun, but learning is! I'll keep practicing my English skills for the next exam. Anyway, thanks for reading about my test experience! Let me know if you have any other questions!。

Ⅳ、Reading Comprehension (20%)A.Read the transcript of a meeting and answer the questions.Andrew Hodge: Well, have you decided which one it’s going to be?Stephen Johnson: Well, it’s tough—but I think it’s between Impact Ads. and Verity.Andrew Hodge: What’s wrong with Transworld?Stephen Johnson: Well, they are a little low on substance. They keep saying they are a “top” company, but they do not say what they are top of!
