在日常生活中如何保持绿色环保生活英语作文
How to Live a Green Life Every Day
Hi there! My name is Emily and I'm a 4th grader at Oakwood
Elementary School. Today I want to talk to you about something
that's really important for our planet – living an environmentally
friendly or "green" lifestyle. The way we live now is hurting the
Earth in lots of ways, like causing air and water pollution, creating
too much garbage, and wasting natural resources. But there are
simple things we can do every day to take better care of the
environment. Here are my top tips for going green!
Use Less Energy
One of the best ways to help the planet is to use less energy
from non-renewable resources like coal, oil and natural gas. The
energy made from burning these fossil fuels creates greenhouse
gas emissions that contribute to climate change and global
warming. Everytime you turn off lights when leaving a room or
unplug electronics when not using them, you save energy. At
home, we wear sweaters inside during winter instead of cranking
up the heat. In summer, we open windows instead of blasting the
air conditioning. My parents also adjusted our thermostat a few degrees to use our heating and cooling system less. These small
changes can really add up!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
You've probably heard the three R's – reduce, reuse and
recycle. Following them is one of the easiest ways to go green.
Reducing means cutting down on the amount of stuff you use
and throw away. You can carry a reusable water bottle instead of
buying plastic bottles, bring your own bag when shopping, and
avoid disposable items like paper plates. Reusing is finding a
second life for items you'd normally toss out. Get creative and
turn your trash into treasure! Old jars make great storage
containers and you can repurpose boxes as organizers. Finally,
recycling keeps items out of landfills. Most plastics, papers,
metals and glasses can be recycled infinitely into new products.
At school, we have recycling bins and do bottle/can drives. At
home, we have separate bins for trash, recycling and
compostable food waste.
Save Water
Fresh clean water is a limited resource that's essential for all
life. Yet so much of it gets wasted through leaky faucets, long
showers and over-watering lawns. Start paying attention to your
daily water use. Take short 5 minute showers instead of baths, never let the faucet run when brushing teeth, and wait until you
have full loads to run the dishwasher and washing machine.
When cleaning or washing hands, turn off the tap while lathering
up. Outside, we collect rain in barrels to water plants instead of
using the hose. Simple tricks like fixing leaks and only watering
the yard in the early morning or evening (when it's cooler)
prevents evaporation.
Walk, Bike or Take Public Transit
Instead of driving a personal car, walk, bike or take public
transportation more often. Vehicle emissions create smog and
pollute the air we breathe, while burning gasoline depletes
natural resources. They also contribute massively to greenhouse
gas levels causing climate change. Whenever possible, leave the
car keys at home and use muscle power to get around. It's better
exercise and doesn't generate any emissions! My family maps
out our weekly errands to do them by bus or bike. For longer
trips, we carpool or take the train. Every car trip avoided helps
reduce our carbon footprint.
Eat Plants not Meat
Did you know that raising animals for meat, dairy and eggs
has a huge environmental impact? The farmland, fertilizers,
water, fuel and other resources required make animal agriculture very resource-intensive. Plus, the manure from farms releases
methane, a potent greenhouse gas. In contrast, a plant-based
diet has a much smaller environmental footprint. At home, we
have one or two meatless nights per week where we eat
vegetarian meals like stir-fries, lentil dishes, pasta, veggie
burgers or salads. When we do eat meat, we buy from local
farmers to cut down on transportation pollution. Avoiding overly
packaged and processed foods also reduces waste.
Buy Sustainable Products
Every product we buy affects the planet in some way
through its manufacturing, packaging and transportation. You
can lower your impact by choosing eco-friendly, sustainable
items made from renewable resources. Look for products with
little packaging, made from recycled materials and meant to be
reused or recycled. Things like bamboo utensils, stainless steel
bottles, cloth bags and toys made from plants or recycled
plastics are smart choices. It's also better to buy local items to
reduce shipping distances. Or buy second-hand items – it gives
them a second life instead of ending up in a landfill!
Start A Garden
Having a garden, even just a small one on your patio or
windowsill, provides so many environmental benefits. The plants
