一.参考题库(共20题)
1.I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. She had just moved into
the neighborhood and her grandmother brought her down to 1 me. I hid behind my
mother and she hid behind her grandmother, 2 to look at each other. Soon, we lost the
shyness and started playing with each other. In 7th grade, I first lost 3 with her. She
was 4 family problems and I deserted her. 5 of my new friends liked her 6 they knew
she had “problems”.
It was last year when I noticed the 7 . I guess I was just to catch up in high school to
realize she8 someone there for her. I didn’t know9, but she started cutting herself!
She was10 from clinical depression(抑郁), and had to go to a11 during the day. I was
very upset at first but with the late night12, and meeting each other at midnight. I
wanted to be there for her since her new best friend once13 her since people were
calling her crazy.
Yesterday she came to me and said this:“I never knew what a best friend was14 you
were the only person that would15me from cutting; the only person that ever made me
feel better about myself and my problems. You don’t know this but I was trying
to16 myself that night you called me. You didn’t even know you were17 me. I owe you
so much.”
We both cried. And I guess a kind of18 from my life is:“never give up on your friends”.
Even if they aren’t as cool as others, or people think they are19, they need someone
there. If you desert them, you will only be20 yourself. So if a friend needs you, and you
care for them, you can never desert them.

4.As is known to us all, baths and bathing have long been considered of medical
importance to man. In Greece there are the ruins of a water system for baths built over 3,000 years ago. The Romans had warm public baths. In some baths, as many 3,000
persons could bathe at the same time.
Treating disease by taking bathing has been popular for centuries. Modern medical
bathing first became popular in Europe and by the late 1700’s has also become popular
in the United States.
For many years frequent(经常的) bathing was believed to be bad for one’s health.
Ordinary bathing just to keep clean was avoided, andperfumewas often used to cover
up body smells!
By the 1700’s doctors began to say that soap and water were good for health. They
believed that it was good for people to be clean. Slowly, people began to bathe more
frequently. During the Victorian Age of the late 19th century, taking a bath on Saturday
night became common.
In the United States ordinary bathing was slow to become popular. During the 18th and
early 19th centuries, many Americans were known as “The Great Unwashed!” In one
American city, for example, a person was only allowed to take a bathe every thirty days!
That was a law!
Frequency of bathing today is partly a matter of habit. People know that bathing for
cleanliness is important to health, Doctors know that dirty bodies increase the chance of
diseases. As a result, in the United States, people generally bathe often. Some people
bath once a day at least. They consider a daily bath essential (="necessary)" to good
health.
