We were all clutching our phrase books and dictionaries, trying our best to communicate.The first few days were definitely the hardest. Everywhere we went, I tried using my Chinese to order food, ask for directions, or just chat with locals. Some laughed at my mistakes, but most people were so impressed and encouraging. I felt like a rock star!While the classes and activities were amazing, the best part was the lifelong friendships I made. Even though we came from all over and spoke different languages, we became the closest of friends. We spent every minute of our free time laughing, playing games, having deep conversations (often resorting to wildgesticulations!), and just being silly kids together.
