When vultures feel threatened they vomit, and the smell of vomited-on dead bodies puts of most predators. Throwing up allows the vulture to fly away more quickly-and the vomit can hurt the aggressor's eyes and face.Opossum (负鼠)In some ways opossums have it easy. 七选五专题江苏省天一中学2021届高三新高考统一适应性考前模拟试题第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)Much of the work in today’s world is accomplished(完成)in teams. Most people believe the best way to build a great team is to gather a group of the most talented individuals. 36 Companies spend millions hiring top business people. Is their money well spent?37 They focused on football, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed. For football and basketball, adding talented players to a team proves a good method, but only up to the poin t where 70% of the players are top talent; above that level, the team’s performance begins to decline. Interestingly, this trend isn’t evident in baseball, where additional individual talent keeps improving the team’s performance. To explain this phenomenon, the researchers explored the degree to which a good performance by a team requires its members to coordinate(协调)their actions. 38 In baseball, the performance of individual players is less dependent on teammates. They conclude that when task interdependence is high, team performance will suffer when there is too much talent, while individual talent will have positive effects on team performance when task interdependence is lower. If a basketball star is, for example, trying to gain a high personal point total, he may take a shot himself when it would be better to pass the ball to a teammate, affecting the team’s performance. Young children learning to play team sports are often told, “There is no I in TEAM.” 39Another possibility is that when there is a lot of talent on a team, some players may make less effort. Just as in a game of tug-of-war(拔河比赛), whenever a person is added, everyone else pulls the rope with less force.40 . An A-team may require a balance—not just A players, but a few generous B players as well.A. It’s not a simple matter to determine the nature of talent.B. Sports team owners spend millions of dollars attracting top talentC. The group interaction and its effect drew the researchers’ attention.D. Stars apparently do not follow this basic principle of sportsmanship.E. Several recent studies examined the role of talent in the sports world.F. Building up a dream team is more complex than simply hiring the best talent.G. This task interdependence distinguishes baseball from football and basketball.7选5阅读答案:36-40 BEGDF本篇七选五讨论如何将团队的作用最大化,并根据研究得出一个好的团队不是简单的人才累加。

高考英语阅读理解专项训练-自然类(1)The blue tits(山雀) have been inspecting the nest-box again this year. The male is the house-hunter but the female will make the final choice. He lands at the hole and turns his head to expose his white cheeks as a signal to attract the female from where she has been feeding.Among many birds that nest in holes, the male has a light-coloured patch on its plumage(鸟羽) which acts as signal for drawing the female’s attention to a suitable nesting-place. Unlike the blue tit, the redstart(红尾鸲) may be only the male that strikingly coloured and the female is not beautiful.A few years ago I was lucky enough to spot a pair of redstarts in action in a Walsh wood. Passage oneLike most birds, the great tit is (mostly) monogamous(一夫一妻的). Every winter pairs of the beautiful songbirds reunite for the upcoming breeding season and spend most of their time together—marking out territory, building nests and even searching for food. The strength of their bond is obvious, but what would happen if the birds were forced to choose between love and food?To find out, University of Oxford zoologist Josh Firth and his colleagues arranged a set of feeders in a forest near the English countryside. Some of those feeders were set to open only for birds that had been labelled with odd-numbered microchips; others allowed access only to those labelled with even numbers. Thus, pairs with matching assignments could open the same feeders and feast on sunflower seeds together. Mismatched couples, on the other hand, were forced to dine at different venues.Over the course of three months the researchers monitored 17 couples, including seven odd-plus-even pairs that could not eat at the same feeders. They found that birds from thosemismatched pairs visited inaccessible feeders nearly four times as often as those from matched pairs, suggesting that mates were sticking together even if it meant one of them lost out on a meal. The results were published in December in Current Biology.Great tit couples may remain side by side even when one of them is hungry because they will need each other later on. “The pair bond is vital for great tits,” Firth says. “Single parents cannot cope with the demands of raising young birds alone. Their only hope for success depends on havi ng a supportive and reliable partner.”Andrew King, a behavioral ecologist at Swansea University in Wales, says that these findings mirror observations in a wide variety of animals, ranging from primates to fish. “Getting less food and searching for food w ith a ‘friend’ may still be better than getting more food and searching for food alone,” he says.1 .Some couples were given microchips with different kinds of numbers so that ________. Make your own Angry Birds做自己的"愤怒的小鸟"Homebrew apps have arrived私人制作的软件已经来临LAST year Eddie the pig took Chile by storm. The iPhone game "ePig Dash", featuring Eddie, dislodged"Angry Birds" to become the number-one paid game on the Chilean App Store. By itself, the story of a cute, if flatulent, pig pushing a bunch of irate birds off the top spot is nothing unusual. What is odd is that the creator of "ePig Dash", a conjuror and economics teacher, knew little or nothing about programming. Instead he used GameSalad, a do-it-yourself tool for app-makers.
DIY is hot. In May Research in Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry, unveiled a kit that allows people with no programming skills to create a working app within minutes. Apple, too, has applied for a patent indicating it is also building a DIY tool for iOS, its mobile operating system. And in March the Massachusetts Institute of Technology released a beta version of App Inventor, which allows even simpletons to make apps for Android phones."
Several start-ups already offer DIY app services. Conduit, a firm which was valued at $1.3 billion after J.P. Morgan acquired a 7% stake for $100m earlier this year, allows people to build mobileapps themselves with a simple graphical interface. AppMakr, a similar service, has helped to create some 10,000 apps. Users include individuals, small businesses and the Harvard Business Review. AppMakr also offers its users help in bringing apps up to standard before submitting them to Apple's picky App Store. Other services publish to Android and Windows, or bypass Apple altogether by creating web apps.
Custom-made apps can cost $10,000 or more. By contrast, DIY apps are free to create, with a subscription for continued support. Prices vary, typically from about $30 to $80 a month. Magmito, an app-building service that targets small and medium businesses, has a plan that costs as little as $50 a year. AppMakr offers a free, ad-supported service.
Magmito
Small businesses and tech-savvy amateurs have been the most enthusiastic early creators of DIY apps. But they can also be a profitable business. GameSalad allows users to make 2D games for smartphones, which some choose to sell. According to Steve Felter, GameSalad's boss, some developers even make a living designing apps on its platform.
The democratisation of technology is not without drawbacks. Apple's App Store already has some 550,000 apps. Google offers 450,000 for download on its Android operating system. The comingdeluge of apps made by amateurs will see thosenumbers swell.
Not all will shine. "There's a lot of garbage on YouTube. But once in a while you find a gem and everybody passes it around," says Ted Iannuzzi of Magmito. Professional app-makers may not be shaking in their boots just yet. But the clever ones, like AppMakr, are moving from creating stuff for mobile phones to creating the stuff that creates the stuff for mobile phones. App-creating software could be the machine tools of the mobile world.
