II. 5Wh 疑问词必须圈划(who, what, when, why, where, how)

例如:

1. Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he?

2. When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?

3. What did Jake do to protect himself from the cold temperatures?

4. How did Jake get down the mountain the next morning?

5. How long did it take Jake return to safety after he lost his ski?

6. What do you think of Jake? Give at least one reason.

(1)Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he?

When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?

What do you think of Jake? Give at least one reason.

(2)Did …mean? 回答:It meant …

4. Why

I. Because + 句子II. ……+ to do………(这里to do 表目的)

例如:

92. Why did Redmayne say that this Oscar belonged to all of those people around the world battling ALS ?

回答:Because he acted as Stephen Hawking in the film and Hawking was diagnosed with

ALS.

5. Where和When 提问,介词in / on / at 等不能遗漏。

例如:

91. Where will the orphan bears be sent when they are old enough?

回答:They will be taken to a nature reserve in Bryansk.

When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?

回答:When they got to the foot of the mountain.

6. How 提问,用By doing…来回答

例如:

How did Jake get down the mountain the next morning?

回答:By following some ski tracks.

He followed some ski tracks. / He found some ski tracks and followed those.

★如知道:Yes, they do. ★如不知:No, they don’t.

Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he?

回答:Yes, he did.

Jake didn’t lose one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, did he?

Yes, he did.

Does a good detective need much knowledge or a good assistant?

I A good detective needs

I . What do you think of...?

I think (that) it is / they are+ adj.

I think it is serious / terrible / awful / dangerous.

IV.

What might be the title of this passage? (In no more than TEN words)

回答:Internet Addiction. / Learn to control Internet use.

Teenager Jake Denham was skiing with his family in the USA when he fell over and lost one of his skis(滑雪板). His family didn’t know that he had a problem. They kept on skiing. When they got to the foot of the mountain, there was no sign of Jake, which made them very worried.

Jake couldn’t find his ski anywhere. In the end, he decided to take off his other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn’t work out the right way to go.

It was now getting dark and he was a long way from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the cold temperatures. But Jake kept calm. At home, Jake watched a lot of TV programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the tips from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole and pointed it up the hill so the wind couldn’t blow into it. Outside his hole, the temperature dropped to a dangerous -15℃that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold.

But he had to get down the mountain. The TV programmes always said, “If you are lost, you should find someone else’s tracks(足迹)through the snow and follow them.”“I wanted to live my life,” remembers Jake. “So I got up and found some ski tracks and I followed those.” He walked and walked and finally he saw lights. Nine hours after he lost his ski, he found a team of workers who came to save him. He was safe!

His mum was very happy when she heard the news. Amazingly, Jake didn’t even have to go to hospital. He got through the terrible experience without any injury.

88. Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, didn’t he?

89. When did his parents realized that Jake was missing?

90. What did Jake do to protect himself from the cold temperatures?

91. How did Jake get down the mountain the next morning?

92. How long did it take Jake return to safety after he lost his ski?

93. What do you think of Jake? Give at least one reason.

(Did Jake lost one of his skis after he fell over when skiing?) Yes, he did.

Jake didn’t lose one of his skis after he fell over when skiing, did he? Yes, he did.

“there was no sign of Jake, which made them very worried”= “Jake was missing”,所以答案是When they got to the foot of the mountain.

He made a hole in the snow and pointed it up the hill.

So I got up and foun d some ski tracks and

He found some ski tracks and followed those. By following some tracks.

It took him nine hours to return to safety.

Because he could use what he learned on TV in emergency. 或Because he still succeeded in solving the problem although he faced a difficult situation.

It was 3:21 a.m. when ten-year-old Glenn Creamer was woken up by the smell of burning. Except for the cracking(爆裂声)of flames somewhere below, there was not a sound in the two-floor house. But he realized at once what was happening.

As his father was away on night duty at a local factory, Glenn was worried about the safety of his other, his 14-year-old sister Karen and his 12-year-old brother Todd. He ran downstairs through the smoke-filled house to push and pull at Karen and Todd until they sat up. Then he helped them through the safety of the garden. There, his sister and brother, taking short and quick breaths and coughing, couldn’t move any more.

The ten-year-old raced back into the house and upstairs into his mo ther’s room. He found it impossible to wake her up and there was nobody to help Glenn carry her to the garden. But the boy kept calm. As a fireman said later, “He acted with all the self-control of a trained adult.”

On the bedroom telephone, luckily still working, Glenn called his father. After Glenn made sure his father would telephone the firemen and ambulance service, he got on with the task of saving his mother.

First he filled a bucket with water from the bathroom and threw water over his mother and her bed. In this way, she would be kept away from the fire before the firemen arrived. Then, with a wet cloth around his head he went back to the garden.

He could hear the fire engine coming up, but how would the firemen find his mother in the smoke-filled house where fire had almost covered the ground floor?

Fetching a ball of string(绳)from the garage, Glenn raced back into the house and rushed upstairs to his mother’s room. He tied one end of the string to her hand. Then he began to run back. He laid out the string as he went through the hall and back out into the garden.

Minutes later he was telling fire Chief John Coughlan, “The string _______________________________.” Mrs. Creamer was carried to safety as the flames were breaking through her bedroom floor.

88. Did Glenn realize there was a fire when he woke up?

89. Where were Karen and Todd when Glenn tried to save their mother?

Antarctica(南极洲)is the fifth-largest continent on Earth. It is also the coldest, windiest, driest and highest continent. It is an ice-covered place where no large plants grow, and no land animals live there.

Antarctica covers an area of more than 13.6 million square kilometres. It is nearly twice the size of Australia, or one-and-a-half times the size of the United States of America.

Antarctica does not belong to one country, and it has no government. People visit Antarctica --- usually as tourists, or to do scientific research --- but no one lives there all the time.

Antarctica was the last continent to be discovered. It is not certain who first saw Antarctica, but

sailors began to map Antarctica’s coast from their ships in the 1800s. The first confirmed(证实)landing was in the mid-1890s.

Over the next few years, several men tried but failed to reach the South Pole in 1911. By then, countries around the world were becoming more and more interested in the frozen continent, and soon several nations: Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom, had laid claim to parts of Antarctica.

As so many nations had made a claim to territory in Antarctica, it was clear that fighting might break out. Diplomats(外交官)from different countries wanted to stop a war from starting, so they began talking about a treaty for Antarctica. A treaty is a written agreement signed by two or more nations.

Several countries had already set up research stations in Antarctica where scientists could live and work. Most scientists worked during the summer months when it was not as cold as in winter. Scientists hoped a treaty would allow them to continue their work and to exchange information with scientists from other countries.

When it comes to helping developing countries, we often think about offering money in order that they can build schools and hospitals, buy food and medicine, or find clean water supplies. These seem to be the most important basic needs in their lives. However, it's far from enough. We have to come up with better ideas. A man called Nicholas Negroponte invented a cheap laptop computer, which he decided to invent after he visited a school in Cambodia. The laptop which Mr. Negroponte has designed is not the same as the normal one that you can buy in the shops. One difference is that it will be covered in rubber so that it is strong and won't be damaged easily. As an electricity supply can be a problem in developing countries, the computer also has a special handle in order that children can wind the computer up to give it extra power when needed. This special laptop computer will cost less than 100 US dollars and Mr. Negroponte wants to produce as many as 15 million laptop computers in the first year. The idea is that these computers will help the children's education as they will be able to access the Internet. These computers might not benefit the people in developing countries immediately, but by improving children's education they should help people to find their own solutions to their problems in the long term. Another idea to help children in developing countries is to recycle old mobile phones so that they can be used again. In the UK. And probably in many other countries too, millions of mobile phones are thrown away every year. The waste crested by throwing away thee old phones is very bed for the environment, so it seems to be an excellent idea to achieve two important goals at the same time. We will reduce the waste we produce and help others. In other words, we will be able to" kill two birds with one "and that is always a good thing. (1)The underlined phrase "wind up" in paragraph 2 means . A. 吹风 B. 给…… 使……(2)The laptop computer that Mr. Negroponte has designed . A. will be damaged much easier than the normal one B. has a special handle to access the Internet C. is cheap and can run with extra power D. can be helpful to find the people's own solutions (3)According to the passage, what benefit can we get from recycling old mobile phones? A. We can reduce the waste to protect the environment. B. We can help children in developing countries reuse the old mobile phones. C. it is good for the environment and very educative for phone users. D. It not only reduces the waste produced by developed countries but also helps the children in developing countries. (What is the idea? What are facts?)

Children are always boasting.They say things like“My Dad's car is bigger than your Dad's,”“My Mom is smarter than yours.”and“My family has more money than yours.” The word“boasting” means __B___ A.骄傲 B.吹牛 C.顽皮 D.幼稚 Many plants and animals are going extinct.Mammoths,which are related(有关联的) with Asia elephants,are now extinct.There are no mammoths in the world today. 1.A mammoth is a kind of _C___. A.plant B.bird C.animal D.tree 2.The word extinct means _C_ A.出现 B.危险 C.灭绝

如:表因果的because, since, as等;表转折的but, however ,on the contrary, on the other hand等等。 We can infer/learn from the(last) paragraph that. It can be concluded from the passage that. The passage implies/suggests that. What can be concluded from the passage? The author's purpose of writing the passage is. Because you can’t see or even hear the person, it would be easy for someone to misrepresent himself/herself. 某一段的主题句也常出现在段首或段尾,而且常有一些表归纳关系的信号词,如in short, In a word, in brief, to sum up, to conclude等。 What is the main idea/topic of the passage? The central point of the selection is that. The author is mainly concerned with. The passages mainly about等。

English is an important international language, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to learn. Many experts have tried to make English easier to learn —but they weren’t always successful. In 1930, Professor C.K. Ogden of Cambridge University invented Basic English. It had only 850 words (and just eighteen verbs) and Ogden said most people could learn it in just thirty hours. The problem was that people who learned Basic English could write and say simple messages, but they couldn’t understand the answers in ‘real’ English! It was also impossible to explain a word if it wasn’t in the Basic English word list. R.E. Zachrisson, a university professor in Sweden, decided that the biggest problem for learners of English was spelling, so he invented a language with the name Anglic. Anglic was similar to English, but with much simpler spelling. ‘Father’ became ‘faadher’, ‘new’ became ‘nue’ and ‘years’ became ‘yeerz’. Unluckily, Anglic never became p opular. In the age of international communication through the Internet, who knows what will happen? ... a new form of English might appear. A large

From the passage,we learn that___.答案为B: The rainforest people have done some- thing to protect their home. An illness had kept the boy home和下文写给Rick的信中可以猜测出意为“去世”。

Dear Mum, How are you? Every day I had fun with my cousins. On Monday we went to a restaurant. We ate good food. On Tuesday we went to a park. We sang and danced. On Wednesday we played ping-pong. On Thursday we climbed a mountain. We took many pictures. Tomorrow I'll be back home! Miss you and dad. Love. John

If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer. 5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. (1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time? A. Beijing. B. Shanghai. C. Shenzhen. (2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?. A. 5G is widely used in China now. B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient. C. There are no symbols at the top of our phones. (3)The writer uses self-driving cars as an example to . A. explain how 5G's fast speed can be helpful B. warn about the possible dangers of self-driving cars C. explain how self-driving cars work (4)What is IoT according to the passage? A. A robot that can do housework. B. An online store where you can buy anything. C. A large online network that connects things and people. (5)Which sentence is right according to the passage?
