VI.Writing

As a college student, I spend no less than an average of six hours on reading every day. There are two major types of reading according to my reading purposes. One is reading for learning, and the other is reading for pleasure.

In my study time, I read academic literature which includes textbooks and journals. I have to study my textbooks every day to prepare for and review my lessons. To keep uo-to-date with developments related to my major, I go to the department library once a week to glance through international academic journals such as System and Applied Linguistics. Although I spend most time on these international journals, I also check some domestic ones for the latest news.

In my spare time, I read for pleasure. The range of my reading varies from newspapers and magazines to stories and novels. They can be divided into four categories, namely, classical literature, popular novels, news, and instruction manuals. Among popular novels, my favorite genre is that of martial arts, which brings me to the exciting world of swordsmen. In the news category, there are weather forecasts, sports articles, and reports on domestic or international politics. I usually cover cookbooks and travel guides as my instructional reading material. They are very useful when I try to cook dishes for weekend parties and prepare for trips during summer and winter holidays.

简评:本文是一篇典型的分类作文,首先开门见山地将作者的阅读分为两大类,然后各起一段分别进一步细分介绍,文章脉络清楚,分类合理全面,描写方法得当。
