When something goes wrong,it can be very satisfying to say,”Well, it’s so-and-so’s fault. ”or “I know I’m late, but it’s not my fault;the car broke down. ”It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody

or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to su ccess.

Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a differen t person, or don’t rely on the person. You should accept that the person. Ask to work with a different person, or don’t rely on this person. You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well.

This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on “whose fault it is. ” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stop on for success.

25. According to the passage, winners __________.

A. meet with fewer difficulties in their lives

B. deal with problems rather than blame others

D. blame themselves rather that others

26. When your colleague brings about a problem, you should _________. .

B. blame him for his lack of responsibility

C. tell him to find the cause of the problem

D. ask a more able colleague for help

27. When problems occur, winners take them as __________.

A. excuses for their failures

B. chances for self-development

C. barriers to greater power

D. challenges to their colleagues

28. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A. A Winner’s Problem.

B. A Winner’s Achievement

C. A Winner’s Opportunity.

D. A Winner’s Secret

When Facebook was entirely dominated(主宰)by people under the age of 25, things were simple. But now an important social question has arisen --- should you “friend” your child, or accept a parent as a “friend”?

With a lack of involvement in or understanding of their children’s social networking, parents begin to feel powerless, irrelevant and rejected. So some parents “friend”their children on social media to know more about their children.

Lindsay Stewart, 15, completely understands why she should refuse a parent’s

friend request. Lindsay’s profile (资料)settings are quite private, and while there may be nothing obviously embarrassing or secret being discussed, it’s not a place she wants her mother to have access to. “It’s a community,”she explains. “Our parents aren’t there in our groups in school. I primarily joined Facebook to have conversations with my friends. My mum is my mum. I like her, but she’s not necessarily to be my ‘friend’.”

Mrs Stewart knows well about what role a parent should play on the world’s biggest networking site --- stay well away from your children. “I wouldn’t dream of being my children’s ‘friend’,”Mrs Stewart said. She thinks attempts at “friending”her children could seem like an invasion (侵犯)of privacy.

Yet Tim Harness, 54, and his daughter Josie, 18, are “friends”on Facebook and perfectly happy. Josie left home for university in Plymouth, and Mr Harness could see her daughter online. “She puts on loads of photographs. I have a little look now and again,” he explains. “It’s quite fun to see who her roommates are. She seems to be having a good time.”

Josie tells me she is glad to know that her father’s checking up on her occasionally. She has plenty of family friends and what they see on her profile doesn’t concern her. “Is it an invasion of privacy? Not really. Everyone has Facebook these days. The only reason you wouldn’t want them is if you’ve got something to hide and if you don’t want them to see what you’re doing.”

29. According to Para. 2, some parents want to “friend”their children on Facebook

because _________.

A. they want to communicate with their children more effectively

B. they have little time to accompany and chat with their children

C. they want to know more about their children’s social circles

D. they want to keep an eye on their children on the Internet

30. The writer mentioned the Harness family to _________.

A. show there is no generation gap between parents and children

B. show young people don’t protect their privacy

C. show Facebook is popular with people of all ages

D. show different opinions about “friending” a child online

31. The passage mainly talks about _________.

A. how kids should protect their privacy on Facebook

B. whether parents should “friend” their kids on Facebook

C. how parents can get along well with their kids on Facebook

D. why kids are opposed to “friending” their parents on Facebook

D

Life holds many bad things for left-handed people --- from the everyday products designed for right-handers to old sayings that they are connected with the devil (魔鬼). So perhaps it is the result of dealing with such situations that they are angrier than common people.

Researchers found that among lefties, the two parts of the brain communicate more with each other so they have more interaction(互动)with the parts which produce negative emotions. Left-handed people have to deal with a lot of inconvenience, since it seems that most of the world is set up for right-handed people. A spokesman said, “Although 10-13 percent of the nation is left-handed people, it is often difficult to find products specifically designed for left-handers.” Everything from can openers to knives is usually designed for right-handed people. Many left-handed schoolchildren were asked to write with their right hand. But some researchers have already said that the hand you write with has almost nothing to do with when you hand in your homework. They have endured the fact that being left-handed seems to be evil or bad luck. And they were thought to be foolish.

A study, led by Ruth Propper, a psychology professor at Merrimack College in Massachusetts, found that the two parts of the brain in those who are left-handed or ambidextrous(双手通用的)communicate more with each other, which makes them more emotional, while earlier studies had shown that “lefties” are easier to produce negative emotions. This research published in the Journal of Nervous and mental Disease.

Many of the world’s leaders and stars are left-handed, with some known for being bad-tempered. One famous bad-tempered leftie is Bob Geldof, who became well-known thanks in part to swearing during TV Live Show. Another is tennis legend John McEnroe, who is as famous for his bad temper as his successes. Leaders who are left-handed include Barack Obama and David Cameron.

But Lauren Milson, who runs https://www.doczj.com/doc/e42915851.html,, which sells goods to left-handed people, said, “Left-handed people just get on with it and do not complain that much. We just deal with a world designed for right-handers.”

32. Compared to common people, left-handed people _________.

A. are more likely to be angry

B. are slower in action

C. are often in bad situations

D. are always looked down upon

33. Which of the following possibly makes left-handed people bad-tempered?

A. Their own character.

B. An unsuccessful career.

C. Other’s attitude towards them.

D. Products designed for them.

34. What can we learn about https://www.doczj.com/doc/e42915851.html,?

A. It is managed by Ruth Propper.

B. It provides products designed for left-handed people.

C. It carries out research into left-handed people’s habits.

D. It is very popular among many famous left-handed people.

35. What can we infer from the passage?

A. Lauren Milsom stands on the side of left-handers.

B. Being left-handed makes John McEnroe more popular.

C. Right-handed students always hand in homework on time.

D. Bob Geldof became famous partly because he acted rudely on the show.

第二节七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)

Dear Seth,

You’re only three years old, and at this point in your life you can’t read, much less understand what I’m going to try to tell you in this letter. But someday, when you’re ready, I hope you will find some wisdom and va lue in what I share with you.

Life can be cruel

36 They’ll tease you or try to hurt you because you’re different.

There’s not much you can do except learn to deal with them, and learn to choose friends who are kind to you and who make you feel good about yourself. When you find friends like this, treasure them, spend time with them and love them.

Be open to life anyway

Yes, you’ll find cruelty and suffering in your journey through life, but don’t let that close you to new things. Don’t retreat from life, don’t hide or wall yourself off. 37

Life isn’t a competition

You will meet many people who will try to do better than you, in school , in college, at work. To them, life is a competition.

But here’s the secret: life isn’t a competition. 38 Learn to enjoy the journey and make it a journey of happiness, of constant learning, of continual improvement, of love.

39

If there’s a single word you should live your life by, it should be this: love. It might sound corny, I know, but trust me, t here’s no better rule in life.

Love not only your loved ones, but your neighbors, your co-workers, strangers, your brothers and sisters in humanity. And most of all, love yourself and learn to love yourself for who you are.

40 You are starting out on an unknown, tiring, scary, but ultimately incredibly wonderful journey, and always remember I will be there for you when I can.

Love,

Your Dad

A. It’s a journey.

B. Life is full of love

C. Love should be your rule

D. Finally, know that I love you and always will.

E. Last, think that you are a wonderful human being.

F. Be open to new things, new experiences, new people.

G. There will be people in your life who won’t be very nice.

八. 写作参考答案

Recycling Textbooks is a Good Suggestion

According to the latest news from Shanghai, we know that textbook recycling plan will take off in Shanghai, which is really beneficial to our students. I was busy preparing the traditional Thanksgiving turkey when the doorbell rang. I opened the front door and saw two small children in rags huddling together on the top step. “Any old papers, lady?” asked one of them. I was busy. I wanted to say “no” until I looked down at their feet. They were wearing th in little sandals(凉鞋), wet with heavy snow. “Come in and I'll make you a cup of hot cocoa.” They walked over and sat down at the table. Their wet sandals left marks upon the floor. I served them cocoa and bread to fight against the cold outside. Then I went back to the kitchen and started cooking. The silence in the front room struck me. I looked in. The girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. The boy asked in a flat voice, “Lady, are you rich?” “Am I rich? Pity, no!” I looked at my worn-out slipcovers(椅套). The girl put her cup back in its saucer(茶碟)carefully and said, “Your cups match your saucers.” They left after that, holding their papers against the wind. They had reminded me that I had so much for which to be grateful. Plain blue china cups and saucers were only worth five pence. But they matched. I tasted the potatoes and stirred(搅动)the meat soup. Potatoes and brown meat soup, a roof over our heads, my man with a regular job, these matched, too. I moved the chairs back from the fire and cleaned the living room. The muddy marks of little sandals were still wet upon my floor. Let them be for a while, I thought, just in case I should begin to forget how rich I am. 36.Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A.Lady, are you rich? B.A story of Thanksgiving Day C.Don't forget how rich you are D.Does cups and saucers match well? 37.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage? A.The girl thought the writer was rich just because she wanted to make the writer happy. B.The writer had thought she wasn't rich because her supplies were not expensive.
