PartⅠ: Teaching material analysis

New English Curriculum Standards

The students in Grade Eight should attain level-2. It requires students can understand and make up conversations with partners. Meanwhile, they can work with others to learn and solve problems.

Ⅰ.Status and function:

The topic of unit 5 is to talk about“Entertainment”. This is the second period of section B. It’s a reading practicing lesson.

Ⅱ.Analysis of students:

The students in Grade 8 have mastered about 1200 vocabularies. They can read and make up short conversations with partners. Students are very creative. They like to imitate and challenge. It’s very importa nt for them to learn to work in pairs and groups.

Ⅲ.Teaching aims and demands

1. Knowledge objects

To know more words about entertainment and know how to describe different game shows.

2. Ability objects

To improve students’ ability of reading.

3. Moral objects

To encourage the students to try their best to face any difficulties and work hard to achieve their dreams.

PartⅣ: Teaching Steps

Step 1 Warm-up

Enjoy a video about Mickey. After that, Teacher asks Ss “ Do you like cartoons?

What’s your favorite cartoon?

Purpose of my designing: Students are interested in the video and game. They are good ways to review the words they learned before.

Step 2 Presentation

Teacher shows a Mickey toy to introduce Mickey and Walt Disney.

Show them some words about Mickey on the screen. Ss read them after teacher.

Purpose of my designing: Using a Mickey toy to teach the new words and phrases can make the students focus on the teaching.

Step 3 Drills

Show a short passage on the screen, which contains the key words and phrases that teacher just used .

Walt Disney , a very common man, but he became a rich and successful man. He created (创作)Mickey Mouse ,the symbol of American culture Steamboat Willie ,the first cartoon with sound and music. It was created by Walt Disney. There are two characters,Mickey mouse and his girlfriend Minnie. People like Mickey ,one of the main reasons is Mickey like a common man .Mickey was ready to try his best to do anything.

Purpose of my designing: To make the students grasp all the new words, and also let the students know something about the main idea of the passage.

Fast-reading :

Task1. Read and fill in the blanks. Tapes: (快速默读)

Task2. Fill T or F in following sentences:

Task3. Fill the facts about Mickey.

Purpose of my designing: Teaching reading skills is very important in this class. So I give them some tasks by reading fast, then reading carefully to learn the skills.

Step5 Game

Who can be the richest .Ss break some golden eggs and find how lucky they are. Different eggs, different money. Sometimes there are some questions in the eggs and Ss should answer the questions to get the money.

Purpose of my designing: All the teenagers are interested in games. So this part can cultivate their learning interests.

Step 6 Group work

Ask students to put some sentences in order.

It's important for the students to learn to work in groups.

Purpose of my designing: Groupwork and teamwork is important for all the students. So this part can help them to learn how to work with others.

Step 7 Moral Object

Enjoy a sentence: If you want to be like Mickey ,you should try your best to do everything well and you should try to face any danger.

Purpose of my designing: It's to cultivate the Ss to work hard.

Step 8 Homework

Write a short passage about a Chinese cartoon character.
