Chinese and Western eating habits are different．In the West，everyone has their own plate of food，but in China the dishes are placed on the table and everybody shares．This is the main difference between them．If you are being treated by a Chinese host, a lot of food will be prepared for you．Chinese are very proud of their culture of cooking and will do their best to show that they welcome you．
Sometimes a Chinese host will use his chopsticks to put food in your bowl or plate．This is a sign of politeness．The right thing to do is to eat it and say “How delicious it is!”．If you feel uncomfortable with this，you can just say “thank you” and leave the food there．
Make sure the spout（壶嘴）of the teapot is not facing anyone．It is impolite to set the teapot down where the spout is facing somebody．The spout should always be directed to where nobody is sitting，usually outward from the table．
Don’t tap on your bowl with your chopsticks．Beggars tap on their bowls. So this is not polite．Also，when the food is coming too slowly in a restaurant，people will tap on their bowls．If you are in someone’s home，tapping on your bowl is insulting．

Does money make people happier? Studies show that it does－when
people at the poverty level are suddenly paid more. Other studies also show that
people who lose the money they are used to having become very unhappy. But
the most important thing seems to be that people are happiest when they make
more than other people. Perhaps one secret of happiness is just to think about
people who don’t have as much money as you. Sadly, how ever, the opposite is also true. When you compare yourself to friends and neighbors who have higher incomes(收入), this may make you unhappy.
Poor people need enough food to feed themselves but what happens when people suddenly become rich? This is the case in China right now where people have become much better off, but can only have one child. The result is an army of “little emperors”: fat, spoiled children. A child measures happiness in love, not food, and there’s nothing good about overfeeding a child.
R ichard Layard, director of the London School of Economics, says, “The six key factors(因素) now scientifically established to influence happiness most are: mental(心理的) health, satisfying and secure(稳固的) work, a secure and loving private life, a safe community, freedom, and moral values (道德观).” It is quite interesting that only one of these has to do with making money. People who realize this think that it is better to be paid in something other than money, for example, time.
Many people are now starting to take time off in different ways. Rather than saving up their vacations for a rushed trip once a year, people are taking a day or so here and there to have smaller, quieter vacations. In some cases, people are going in the other direction and taking vacations of several months or even a year. On these vacations, they don’t generally just lie on a beach. Instead, they might volunteer in another country or learn a new skill like a foreign language.

九年级英语总复习资料 一、被动语态： 1.总述：英语中有两种语态：主动语态和被动语态。 1)主动语态表示主语是动作的执行者。 巧记为：主动、主动、主语去动。 例如：Many people speak English. 谓语speak的动作是由主语many people来执行的。 2)被动语态表示主语是动作的承受者。 巧记为：被动、被动、主语被动。 例如：English is spoken by many people. 主语English是动词speak的承受者。 2.被动语态的构成 被动语态由“助动词be＋动词的过去分词”构成。人称、数和时态的变化是通过be的变化表现出来的。现以teach为例说明被动语态的各种时态的构成。 ①一般现在时之被动语态的动词形态： am／is／are＋taught 现在被教 ②一般过去时之被动语态的动词形态： was／were＋taught 过去被教 ③一般将来时之被动语态的动词形态： will／shall be＋taught 将来被教 歌诀：被动语态be动词，体现时态是关键；过去分 词跟后面，被动语态才完全。 3.被动语态的用法 (1)不知道或没有必要说明动作的执行者是谁。 例如：Some computers were stolen last night. 昨晚，一些电脑被盗了。(不知道是谁偷的) The window was broken yesterday. 昨天，窗户被打破了。(不知道是谁打破的) This book was published in 1981. 这本书出版于1981年。（没必要说出执行者） (2)强调动作的承受者，而不强调动作的执行者。 例如：This book was written by him. 这本书是他写的。 Eight hours a day for sleep must be guaranteed. 应用歌诀：谁做动作不知道，说出谁做没必要； 动作受者要强调，被动语态运用到。 4.主动语态变被动语态的方法： (1)主动语态的宾语变为被动语态的主语，是代词时， 改宾格为主格。 *(2)把谓语变成被动结构(be＋过去分词) (根据被动语态句子里的主语的人称和数，以及原来 主动语态句子中动词的时态来决定be的形式)。 (3)把主动语态中的主语放在介词by之后作宾语，是 代词时，改主格为宾格。 例如：All the people laughed at him. =He was laughed at by all the people. They make the bikes in the factory. =The bikes are made by them in the factory. 歌诀：宾变主语主变宾，by宾短语随后跟。关键谓 语动词动，be和“过分”来使用。 5.含有情态动词的被动语态 含有情态动词的主动句变成被动句时，由“情态动词 ＋be＋过去分词”构成。 歌诀：情态动词变被动，要牢记住三部分，情态加 be加“过分”。 例如：We can repair this watch in two days. = This watch can be repaired by us in two days.
