To complete a study, a team of scientists left Boston and w ent halfw ay around the w orld to the middle of Kenya. They w anted to find out more about barefoot running.

Sure, people can run barefoot anyw here. But Kenya has produced some of the most famous long-distance runners in history, and many of these athletes grew up not w earing shoes.Scientist Daniel Lieberman visited some of these runners to figure out w hat a difference shoes make.

It w as a big difference, and not necessarily for the better. In particular, w hen a bare foot hits the ground, the blow (冲击)is softer and the running motion is smoother.Running barefoot may have advantages over running w ith shoes on, though more studies are needed to determine w hether or not barefoot running reduces the chance of injures. One shouldn't be scared of barefoot running or think it strange, Lieberman told Science New s.It's normal and, if done properly, it is very fun and comfortable.

Previous studies have show n that w hen a person runs barefoot, he lands on the fronts or middles of the feet. Then the heels(脚后跟)go dow n.During this process, the w eight of the body is at first on the fronts of the feet, then moves to the heels. When a person w ears shoes, how ever, he tends to run so that his heels hit the ground first. The effect of the heel hitting the ground many he much more forceful than the effect of the front of the foot hitting the ground. The researches also studied barefoot runners in their laboratory. The goal w as to measure the force w ith w hich a runner's foot hits the ground.A rear-foot (后足)strike is like someone hitting you on the foot w ith a hammer w ith about one and a half to three times your body w eight. It w ould hurt w ithout a shoe.Lieberman said.A forefoot strike is like having no one hit you at all.The study explores the physics of running, w hich is a complex topic.

The idea that barefoot running is better is a massive assumption.Reed Ferber, a biochemist at the University of Calgary in Canada said.Basically, there are no studies out there that show barefoot running is less injurious.41.Lieberman' s attitude tow ards barefoot running is ______.

A.supportive B.negative C.neutral D.unclear 42.According to the studies, if you run barefoot, you ______.

A.have your heels hit the ground first B.set the fronts of the feet on the ground first

B.It is much better for runners to run barefoot.

C.Barefoot running reduces the possibility of injures.

In a research on the effect of the transport sector(运输领域)on climate, it proves that road traffic contributes the most to global w arming. The aviation (航天)sector has the second largest w arming effect w hile shipping has a cooling effect on the Earth' s Climate.

The study concludes that since pre-industrial times, 15% of CO2 emissions (排放量)made by humans have come from the transport sector. The study implies that more attention needs to be paid to the fast grow ing road sector.Looking

How ever, the historical contribution from aviation emissions to global w arming is more than doubled the contribution from road emissions. In fact, over the next 100 years, today ' s road emissions w ill have a climate effect that is four times higher than the climate effect from today ' s aviation emissions.

For shipping, the picture is more complicated.Until now, shipping has had a cooling effect on climate. This is because shipping produces a large amount of SO2, w hich has a cooling effect. How ever, although the gas, until now, has given the shipping industry a cooling effect, this effect w ill disappear after a w hile, as the gas doesn't last long in the atmosphere. The long-lived CO2, w ill dominate (占优势), giving shipping a w arming effect in the long run.

In general, the transport sector' s contribution to global w arming w ill be continuously high in the future.

45.What can w e learn about road traffic?

A.It has the second largest w arming effect on climate.

B.It produces 15% of all CO2 into the air every year.

C.It created more CO2 emissions than aviation in history.

C.it produces a gas w hich has a cooling effect

D.the gas it produces can absorb CO2

47.The underlined phrase in paragraph 4 probably means"______".

A.after a long time B.in a tiring race

C.all the time D.during a long voyage

48.The passage mainly talks about______.

A.the effect of CO2 on global climate

B.the effect from traffic on global w arming

C.how to choose a green w ay to travel

D.w hy transport produces so much CO2

How ever, many scientists w onder w hether intelligent life exists on other planets. Some believe that tw enty years of searching w ithout any intelligible messages show s that no one is out there. They say that the evolution of intelligence comparable to ours is unlikely.

Other scientists believe that our search hasn't been long enough to rule out the possibility that intelligent life exists in our galaxy.Although our sun family is only about five billion years old, our galaxy is about 20 billion years old.In that time, some scientists think it is likely that civilization (文明)much more advanced than ours have developed.Perhaps these civilizations send us no signals; perhaps w e have not recognized the signals they have sent us.If w e hope to find intelligent life, these scientists believe that w e have to keep looking.

高考英语阅读理解三篇

(A ) A coal-fire stove(炉灶)provided heating for Zhao Yaoqin's courtyard bungalow in a Beijing hutong all her life. This winter, however, the stove has disappeared from the 66-year-old's life, and an electric radiator takes its place beside her bed, a product of a government to use clean energy in the national capital. With the Olympics to be staged in Beijing next August, the city is determined to eliminate the use of coal within the Third Ring Road that circles the city before the Games. The project to replace the stoves with electric radiators has been part of the effort. When the city's four-month long heating season started on Thursday, coal-fired stoves, known as a big source of pollution in the big city, have disappeared from some 20,000 local households like Zhao's bungalow in the inner city "hutong" -- traditional alleyways(小巷) that date back centuries. "We used to boil water or bake bread on the stove," said Zhao, sounding sentimental(伤感) to the disappearance of the coal furnace from her life. Late in the 1990s, Beijing's air quality monitoring office found that the emissions(排放) of sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide from the hutong areas have been higher than the city's average in winter, mainly because of the coal stoves. With the project to switch to clean energy for heating launched in 1999, the emission level of the two poisonous substances decreased by 42 percent and 44 percent, respectively, this year from 2001 levels. Zhao said the fee for electrical heat for the entire winter was usually around 2,400 yuan (US$323) per household. With the government's subsidy(补贴), however, she only needed to pay about 500 yuan, nearly the same price as that for coal. 1.Zhao Yaoqin’ example in the passage is to tell us that_______. A.people in Beijing using electric radiators to welcome the Olympics. B.people in Beijing are doing something to protect the environment. C.hutongs in Beijing have a long history. D.People pay more money to use electric radiators than before. 2. The underlined word eliminate probably means________ A. cut down. B. increase. C. get rid of. D. replace 3. We can infer from the passage that ______ A. Zhao Yaoqin has a strong and deep emotion with the use of coal-fire stove. B. The government will pay most of the fee. C. The air of Beijing has been badly polluted since 1990s. D. The people do not use coal eight months in one year. 4. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? A. The clean air is important when the Olympics Games is held in Beijing. B. The success of the Olympics Games depends on the clean air. C. The government spare no effort to make the environment better. D. The emission level of poisonous substances will be low in 2008.

四川省高考英语冲刺阅读完型写作自练1 (2)

四川省2015高考英语冲刺阅读完型写作自练1 阅读理解。 Success doesn’t begin until you begin the walk down the way towards your goals. And your walk down the way always begins first with a baby step. Why do we call them baby steps? Are they really anything more than our next ste p down life’s way? Baby steps are the first steps we take as an act of faith. We see others stepping out and we want to show our ability to walk by following them. As we grow, we continue our development by taking extra baby steps. Sometimes we fall; sometimes we fail. After that, all steps become an act of faith; we just become more practiced. If you say to yourself“I don’t want to make a fool of myself”or“I’d better be good at this”, you’ll probably never take the baby steps towards your goals and end up lying in your own self-pity. As a culture, we focus on results. We think about every risk that must be taken to reach our goals. There are few people who are excellent performers of any tasks the first time they try them. They fail and succeed. Then, they build upon their abilities learned each time. They practice their skills and use their talents through baby steps before they are ready to prove them to the whole world. So, learn to take those baby steps to reach the goals before you. Know that you can depend on God to show you the way. As you become more experienced, your baby steps become a walk, then a jump, and finally a sprint. That’s how our baby steps lead us through the marathon of life.

The setting was a packed gymnasium just before the start of a game against another school. There were five girls who were members of the Danville High School basketball team—all of them starters. They were not in uniform to play that night and would not be on the team for the rest of this season. They were there to admit their breaking of team rules. They were there to support their coach's decision to take them off the team. They were there to let the town know there was a problem in their little community that needed to be addressed. And they did it with sincere regret rather than defensiveness. While the school had been out for the New Year's holiday, the five girls had gone to the party with several of their friends. There was alcohol there. And they all drank some. Coach Rainville has a zero tolerance rule on drugs and alcohol for her members though it was a hard decision to make. When classes resumed and accounts of holiday parties were shared, rumors about the five girls began closing in on them. The coach said she couldn't back down on her rules. And the players—two junior students and three senior students—agreed. That night in the gym was part of their public support of the coach's decision. “We hope you will understand that we are not bad kids. What we did was definitely not worth it. We hope this event will make everyone realize that there is a big drug and alcohol problem in our community,” one of the senior students said, “And if you work with us to try to solve this problem, you will help us feel that we have not been thrown off our basketball team for nothing.” The five left the floor to deafening applause. The team may not win another game this year. But they've learnt something about personal responsibility, the effect of one's action on others, and honesty that will serve them well throughout life. (1)It can be inferred from the passage that the five girls who were kicked off the team were ________. A. very good players on the team B. addicted to alcohol and drugs C. three junior students and two senior students D. scolded by their parents for drinking alcohol (2)What did the girls do to support their coach's decision? A. They didn't fight for Danville High School any more. B. They all gave speeches to apologize in the local press. C. They admitted their mistake in public in the gymnasium. D. (4)Which would be the best title for the passage? A. Growing up with pain B. A bad mistake C. Team rules are everything D. Basketball girls in high school 【答案】(1)A

Before shooting a scene, make sure that your video camera is charged up and is ready to run. Having a spare battery is a good idea. If you are bad at introductions and conclusions, then think of the end first, and begin the movie in the same place, or vice-versa(反之亦然). Add music, but not illegally. In other words, you can put music in, but don't give out copies. If you do, you will have to use non-copyrighted material or contact someone to get permission. No matter where you are there is always independent musicians that would love to have their songs in your movie. and lighting is very important: Good sound (easily understanding the person speaking without hearing the photographer breathing, or street noise, for example) is critical. Good lighting makes the video/movie watchable. Excellent "Predicting lighting " include: Dusk or early morning, a foggy or overcast day, and shade (but only when there is a darker background.) A white poster board can be used to bounce(弹回) light to the shaded side of the face. Here are a few camera pointers to consider: Vary the shots for interest, but vary the type of shots, between wide, medium and close-up(特写). Too many close-ups in a row is in disorder. Start with a wide Establishing Shot (so the audience knows where the action is taking place and what time of day, year or millennium(千年期)it is), then vary medium and close-up shots. When the army came knocking on his door, he felt pride and joined up. All those years of polishing his hunting skills could now serve a larger purpose—to defend us from the bad guys. He set out to fight in Iraq. It wasn’t long before he realized his ideals and expectations were just a shadow of the truth. He became disillusioned with the killings, which he felt were of innocent people. “I was a sniper but I never really killed anyone,” he said. “One day I had to do it. They asked me to shoot this lady from the distance. I saw kids near that lady and my hands were on the trigger (扳机). Man, I was tearing up ... I couldn’t do it. She wasn’t doing anything to anyone and she was with the kids—I couldn’t see through my tears. It just didn’t make any sense to me.” The story goes on as he describes eventually being put into prison for 180 days for refusing to follow orders. He told me how he was black listed so that he couldn’t get a job. All the rights we take for granted were taken away from him. Why? Here was a man who was being punished—and for what? For refusing to kill the lady? For being a hero? “I have no regrets,” anyone the homeless man said. “I may be homeless now, but I never killed that lady. I never killed He in the army. It didn’t feel right. I didn’t go there to do that. I went there to save people.” okay. But I wouldn’t be able to live with continued, “I can live with being homeless—that’s killing innocent people.” On that lonely Friday night, I met a hero. It just never occurred to me that a hero could be a smelly old man left on streets. 1. It can be learned from the passage that the homeless man_______. But in recent years psychologists have taken quite a different view. Keith Oatley,Professor of Psychology at Glasgow University,is involved in the research which shows the fundamental importance of emotions. He believes we are very ambivalent about them:we think of our emotions as being unreasonable, but we also consider them as essential to being human. For example,Mr Spock,a character in the television series Star Trek,is superintelligent and he has no emotions at all. However,he is never made captain of the spaceship.Maybe, this is because Mr Spock is not the kind of person you can share your feelings with—a person who shows his emotions. As Professor Oatley points out,our emotions have very important functions, for example, fear. If we cross the road and a car approaches,we usually stop moving or step back.We stop what we are doing, check what we have done and pay very careful attention to the environment. The emotion of fear makes us take this small series of actions which,on average, help preserve our safety. On the other hand,if things are going well and small problems come up,we find we can solve them with the resources we have to hand.As a consequence,we tend to feel happy and usually continue doing the job. Anger is an emotion that tends to occur when someone is preventing us from doing something. Then this small “kit” of reactions enables us to prepare ourselves to be quite aggressive to that person,or to try harder, and so on. Professor Oatley believes emotions generally occur at these important moments in actions. With fear and anger our emotions make us decide to start doing something else, while with happiness they “suggest” we continue what we are already doing. 1.What’s Keith Oatley’s opinion about emotions? A.They affect reasonable thought. B.They get us into trouble. C.They are helpful to us. D.They are reasonable. 2.What does the underlined part “we are very ambivalent about them”in Paragraph 2 mean? A.We have contradictory feelings towards emotions. B.We have similar ideas of emotions.
