Unit 1 Star signs

Period I: Comic Strip & Welcome to the unit (pp. 2 – 3) Teaching objectives:

-To get my students interested in topic of the unit, Star signs

-To talk about the 12 star signs and some of the creatures

-To encourage my students to role-play the conversation between Eddie and Hobo

Language focus:

Comic Strip:

correctly.

Comic Strip

Pre-task activities: Talking about the pictures on Page 2

-What is Eddie doing in the first picture? Is he having breakfast, lunch or supper?

-Is the glass full or empty? What about his bowl?

-What does Hobo bring to Eddie? (Hobo brings the newspaper to Eddie. / Hobo brings Eddie the newspaper.)

-What is Eddie doing in the second picture?

-What does Hobo tell Eddie to read? Why?

-Is Eddie interested in his stars? Why?

-What is Hobo doing at the same time?

-Is Eddie?s glass full or empty in Picture 4? What about his glass?

2.Describing friends

1)John is a fair person. He treats his students equally. But Jack does not

is afraid of meeting people.

3) A selfish person cares only about himself / herself. But a generous person

likes giving gifts and enjoys giving money to charities.

4) A patient person can wait without getting angry. But an impatient person

can?t wait.

3.The opposites

Help my students memorize the adjectives showing one?s characteristics and their opposites of Part A, on page 8. The teacher can also use the table in …Study Guide for the students? (page 6).

4.Talking about persons with different characteristics

1) A patient person does not give up easily(轻易放弃).

2) A kind person likes to take care of (照顾)others.

3) A generous person likes to buy friends nice gifts (给朋友们买礼物)or give

money to charities(把钱给慈善机构).

4) A practical person always pays attention to (注意)details.

5) A Libra loves peace and do not like to argue with (与…争吵)others.

6)An energetic person has lots of energy(有许多能量).

7)John is a patient person. He can wait without getting angry(不会生气)and
