1.Mum and Dad, may I ask you a question? 妈妈,爸爸,我可以问你们一个问题吗?

(1)May I/we …?意为“我/我们可以……吗?”这是表达请求对方许可时常用的交际用语。

其肯定回答为:Yes, you may./ Of course you may./ Yes, please./ Of course./ Certainly./ Sure.

其否定回答为:I’m sorry, you can’t./ I’m afraid not./ You’d better not./ I’m sorry, but…等。

(2)ask you a question意为“问你一个问题”。ask 为动词,意为“问,询问。”question为名词,意为“问题”。如:Put up your hand if you want to ask a question. 如果你想问问题就举手。

2.Is the Silk Road made of silk? 丝绸之路是丝绸做的吗?

本句为一般现在时的被动语态。被动语态表示主语是动作的承受者。一般现在时的被动语态为:am/is/are+ 及

物动词的过去分词。

如:They grow tea in the southeast of China. 他们在中国的东南方种植茶叶。(主动语态)

Tea is grown by them in the southeast of China. 茶叶被他们种植在中国的东南方。(被动语态)

3.How far is it from Beijing to Xi’an? 从北京到西安多远呢?

(1)how far 用于询问距离,表示“多远”。在表示两地之间的距离时,可以加上from……to…,构成固定句型“How far is it from…to…?”其中it在句中做主语,指代距离,该句型相当于“How far is from…to…?”注意:how far引导的特殊疑问句可以用以下句型回答:数词+meters/kilometers 等量词;数词+minutes+walk/ride/drive 等。

(2)from…to…从……到……,既可以表示时间,也可以表示空间,用于连接两个名词、数词等。

8.Where else can you travel thousands of years back in time? 你还能去哪些数千年的地方并及时返回?(1)else,副词,“另外,其他”,位于-thing,-one,-body等复合代词或者what,who, where, when等疑问代词或者副词之后。如:Would you like anything else? 你还要点别的东西吗?

(2)In time,“及时”,强调正好赶上事先约定的时间,而没有迟到,后面可接for引起的介词短语,表示正赶上某事。可用作表语或状语。

1.Just try your best. 要尽力啊!

Try one’s best 意为“尽某人最大努力”,one’s 是物主代词,长随主语进行变化。后常接不定式。其同义短语为do one’s best. 如:

We try our best to finish this work. 我们尽力完成这项工作。

2.Well down。做得好。这是个简略答语,常用语口语中赞扬对方的行动。一般单独使用,具有祈使句的

性质。

3.I hope so . 我希望如此。常用语口语中,表达希望之前所提到的事情成为现实。

——I think we can come back before dark. 我想我们能在天黑前回来。

——I hope so. 希望如此。

4.Here is the last one. 这是最后一个。

此为倒装句,句中如果出现副词here,there位于句首时,常用倒装句式。如果主语是名词,则用全倒装:Here+系动词+名词;如果主语是代词,则用半倒装:Here+代词+系动词。居中的主语是后面的名词或代词,所以系动词用am,is还是are,要和后面的名词或代词的单复数保持一致。

Here is his father. 他父亲在这里。Here you are. 给你。

5.Why don’t you learn a traditional Chinese dance ? 你为什么不学中国的传统舞蹈?

Why don’t you do sth? “你为什么不做某事呢?”表示商量和给对方建议,否定式的疑问句显得更委婉,更容易被对方所接受。通常可以用Why not do sth? 来同义替换。

Why don’t we go shopping together? = Why not go shopping together? 为什么我们不一起购物呢?

2. I want to be a singer in the future. 将来我想成为一名歌手。

(1)want to be …“想成为,想当……”

(2)singer为名词,“歌手”,它是由动词sing加后缀-er构成的名词,表示做该动作的人。在英语中,可以在动词后加-er或-or, 变为表示职业的名词很多。如:

3. It’s important to help others. 帮助他人是很重要的。

本句的结构是:It is +形容词+(for sb.)to do sth. 形容词仅仅是描述事物,不是对不定式行为者的品格进行评价。这类形容词有difficult,easy,hard,important,dangerous,(im)possible 等。

如:It’s important for us to learn English well. 对我们来说学好英语很重要。

Unit 4 After-School Activities

1.How about coming over for dinner this evening? 今天晚上来吃晚饭怎么样?

(1)how about…?(你认为)…怎么样?与how about…?意思相同,用来询问信息,提出建议或征求意见。其后可以接名词、代词或动名词。

注意:what about/ how about …意为“(某人/物)怎么样?”时,可以和How do you like…?或What do you think of…?替换。

(2)come over“走过来,顺便来访”。

2.You will learn and have fun at the same time. 你会在学习的同时感到有趣。

At the same time, “同时”,其中same为形容词,意为“相同的”,在使用时前面一般要加定冠词the,后面用名词单数或不可数名词。At the same time 指短暂的同一时刻两个动作同时发生,强调动作的短暂性。

如:We both got to school at the same time this morning. 今天早上我们俩同时到校。

3.Are you in a hurry to go somewhere? 你急着去什么地方吗?

In a hurry 为固定短语。其中hurry为名词,意为“匆忙”。Do sth. in a hurry= hurry to do sth.

如:He went to school in a hurry this morning.= He hurried to school this morning. 今天早晨他匆匆忙忙上学去了。

4.I can read you one this weekend. 这个周末我可以给你读一个。

This week “这个周末”,用于next,this,last等限定词后,一般不加任何介词。

注意:由this 限定的时间,在没有上下文的情况下,一般以该时间所存在的时间段的中间为划分界限,上半段用一般过去时或已有具体存在的时间,下半段用一般将来时,如this weekend,周末一般为一周的下半段时光中的一部分,故用一般将来时。如:

What did you eat this morning? 今天早上你吃什么了?(早上是一天的上半段时间,故用过去时。)

Linda is coming to my house this evening. 琳达今天晚上要来我家。(晚上是一天中的下半段时间,故用将来时。)

本句是打电话用语,表示“请…接电话好吗?”用May/could/can I speak to…?

常用的电话用语:

Who’s that (speaking)? 你是谁?

Is that…(speaking)? 你是……吗?

May/could/can I speak to…?请……接电话好吗?

Hold on, please. 请等一会儿。

Who is speaking? 谁在讲话?

This is…(speaking)。我是……

2.I am so proud of you. 我为你感到十分自豪。

Be proud of “以……自豪,为……而骄傲”,后跟名词,proud为形容词,作表语。

3.You don’t even need to move any letters around. 你甚至不用移动任何字母。

Need在本句中为实义动词,意为“需要”,其后可接名词、动词不定式和动名词作宾语。Need 此时有人称和数的变化,变否定句和疑问句时要加助动词。

注意:need作情态动词时,多用于否定句和疑问句中,无时态、人称和数的变化,必须和其他实义动词一起构成谓语,不可单独使用。需要注意need 的否定形式needn’t,意为“不必”,常用于Must…?引导的一般疑问句的否定回答。如:

——Must I do it now? 我必须现在做吗?

——No, you needn’t. 不,你不必。

Feed为及物动词,意为“喂养,饲养”,其过去式和过去分词都为fed,常用结构为feed…on/with…,意为“用……喂……”,feed后接喂养对象,on/with 后接喂养的东西即食物;feed…to…把……喂给……,feed后接喂的东西,to 后接喂养对象。如:

(1)picture,照片,相片。同义词为photo。

(2)表示“某人的照片”,使用名词所有格和介词of,表达的意义不同。

This is Liu Ying’s picture. 这是刘英的照片。(指照片是属于刘英的,但照片上的人不一定是刘英本人。)

This is a picture of Liu Ying’s. 这是刘英的一张照片。(表示照片是刘英所拥有的照片中的一张。)

This is a picture of Liu Ying。这是一张刘英的照片。(表示照片上的人是刘英,而照片属于谁并没有强调。)

2.Exercise can keep our brains young! 锻炼能保持我们的大脑年轻。

Keep…young意为“保持……年轻”。Young为形容词,作keep的宾语补足语。类似的例子还有:keep……open 使……开着;keep……closed 让……关着。

We should keep our classroom clean. 我们应该保持教室干净。

3.They used to be very active together. 他们过去在一起很活跃。

Used to “过去常常”,为情态动词,只有过去式,可用于各种人称的单复数,表示过去存在的但现在已经停止的情况或习惯,后接动词原形。

He used to go home by bus. 他过去常常坐公共汽车回家。

注意:含used to 的疑问句或否定句可借助助动词did,也可直接用used 进行变化。如:——Did he used to go to the cinema? 他过去常去看电影吗?

——Yes, he did. 是的,他是。

4.Tim is not active any more. 蒂姆不再活跃了。

Not…any more意为“不再,再没有”,该短语相当于no more, 是副词性短语。作“不再”解时,可修饰动词、形容词等,表示程度或数量,在句中作状语。

如:My pen was not on the desk any more. 我的钢笔不再桌子上了。

Be sure 确信。常有以下用法:

(2)be sure+ that 从句,确信……如:I am sure that he will come to see me this Sunday. 我确定他这周日将会来看我。

(3)be sure of sth./doing sth. 对(做)某事有把握。

2.ARG takes care of pets without a home. ARG照顾无家可归的宠物。

Without在句中作介词,意为“没有”,其反义词为with,表示“有,带着”,其后接名词、代词或动名词作宾语。如:

He left without saying goodbye. 他不辞而别。

Without的其他用法:

(1)without作介词,意为“不和……在一起,无……相伴”。Don’t go without me. 别甩下我就走。(2)without作介词,意为“不带,不用,不拿”。Can you see clearly without your glasses? 你不戴眼镜能看清吗?

(3)Without 作副词,意为“没有,缺乏”Do you want a room with a bath or one without? 你要不要带洗澡间的房间?

3.My family and friends will come and watch me play. 我的家人和朋友将来看我比赛。

Watch me play, “看着我玩”,属于watch sb. do sth. 的结构。意为“看着某人干某事”,动词watch后跟不带to 的不定式作宾语补足语,强调动作的完整性。

注意:watch sb. doing sth. 意为“看到某人正在做某事”,动词watch 后跟动词-ing 形式作宾语补足语,强调动作正在进行。如:
