第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,共30分)

阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳答案。

A

Sometimes people cheat in daily life. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game.

Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test ---- unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.

Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.

A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.

21.The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, _______.

A.teachers should punish them B.it does harm to their heath

C.it is unfair to other people D.teachers shouldn’t stop them at once 22.Some students like cheating mainly because_________.

A.the material in the test is very difficult

B.they want to do better than the others

C.cheating can make hard things seem very easy

D.they have little time to study their lessons

23.The fourth paragraph mainly tells us______.

A.cheating isn’t a good idea

B.some kids don’t spend the time studying

C.some kids can’t pass the test without cheating

D.why kids cheat in the test

24.We can learn from the passage______.

A.cheaters are often thought highly of

B.people show no respect for those who cheat

C.parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble

D.kids cheat in the test because of swim practice

I was very disappointed not to be able to go to the jazz concert last Friday. The advertisement in the paper said that you could buy tickets at the theatre box in Richland Hills any day between 10:00 and 4:00. Since I work from 9:00 to 5:30, the only time I could go to the theatre was during my 45-minute lunch break. Unluckily, the theatre is on the other side of the town, and the bus service between my office and Richland Hills is not very good. But if you are lucky, you can make the round trip in 45 minutes. Last Monday, I stood at the bus stop for fifteen minutes waiting for the bus. By the time I saw one come around the corner, there was not enough time left to make the trip. So I gave up and went back to the office. The same thing happened on Tuesday, and again the next day. On Thursday, my luck changed. I got on a bus right away and arrived at the theatre in exactly twenty minutes. When I got there, however, I found a long line of people at the office. I heard one man say he had been waiting in line for over an hour. Realizing I would not have enough time to wait in line, I caught the next bus and headed back across the town. By Friday I realized my only hope was to make the trip by taxi. It was expensive, but I felt it would be worth it to hear the concert. The trip by taxi only took 10 minutes, but it felt like an hour to me. When I got to the theatre, I was relieved to see that nobody was waiting in line. The reason, however, I quickly discovered, was that they had already sold all the tickets.

A.from his friends

C.over the radio

D.from the newspaper

26. One day the man took________ to get to the theatre by bus.

A.worried

C.puzzled

D.sorry

28. The writer mainly shows us his________.

A.enjoyment of the concert

B.anger for buying the ticket

C.efforts to buy the ticket

D.disappointment at the concert

As a student, you must be excited to know something about American school students. In fact, just like in China, in the United States, high school is usually divided into two periods, the first two or three years are called “junior high school” and the other is “senior high school”.

In China, children enjoy free education of nine years, but in the United States, the students enjoy free education until they are 18 years old. As a result of the free education system, American children have little difficulty in going to senior high school.

American high school students can take part in a lot of activities outside of the classroom. The activities are organized by the school, such as joining a music group or a sports team. Certainly, just like us students in China, American students have to work hard in order to get good marks if they want to go to a good university. They take classes in all kinds of subjects all through the high school period. And those who come out with low marks at the end of a school year and who should repeat a grade are often allowed to go on to the next grade.

In American high schools, there is fighting or hurting or other kinds of bad behaviors. So children who want to go to university are often sent to suburban high schools, where most students want to go to university and the atmosphere is quite different.

33. Activities outside of the classroom refer to __________.

All children want to have pocket money. Why do their parents just give them a certain amount? 36

The amount of money that parents give to their children to spend as they wish differs from family to family. 37 Some children get weekly pocket money. Others get monthly pocket money.

First of all, children are expected to make a choice between spending and saving. Then parents should make the children understand what is expected to pay for with the money. At first, some young children may spend all of the money soon after they receive it. Parents are usually advised not to offer more money until it is the right time. 38

In order to encourage their children to do some housework, some parents give pocket money if the children help around the home. Some experts think it not wise to pay the children for doing that. 39

Pocket money can give children a chance to experience the three things they can do with the money. They can spend it by giving it to a good cause. They can spend it by buying things they want. 40Saving helps children understand that costly goals require sacrifice. Saving can also open the door to future saving and investing(投资)for children.

A. One main purpose is to let kids learn how to manage their own money.

B. They can save it for future use.

C. Timing is another consideration.

D. As helping at home is a normal part of family life.

E. Some children are not good at managing their pocket money.

G. By doing so, these children will learn that spending must be done with a budget(预算).
