Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Lily. It is my great honor to stand here to present my lesson. To make my presentation clearer, I will explain my lesson plan in the following parts

一、Analysis of the teaching material

Reading “People who are happy with their jobs” is the second period of Unit 1 ,in the first term of the ninth grade. It is a lesson mainly about how to develop the students’abilities of reading. It follows the introduction of the useful expressions about people’s attitude towards their jobs in the first period “Welcome to the unit” and comes after the using of the conjunctions “and, but, or, so” and “both… and…, neither… nor…, either… or…, not only… but also…”. It can help the students to develop their learning skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing which is important to help the students to get some basic knowledge and improve their basic skills.

Aim 2 Ability objectives

1. To develop students’ability of reading comprehension by reading the text “People who are happy with their jobs”.

2. To improve students’ ability of talking about “People who are happy with their jobs” in English. Aim 3 Emotion objectives

To encourage the students to learn the people’s attitude towards their work and study hard for the rise of Chinese nation. This topic is close to the students’life and it can arouse the students’special attention and inspire their interest in learning English. Meanwhile it can bring up the students’ feelings of solicitude and friendship to their families, classmates and friends. by reading the text “People who are happy with their jobs”.

四、Teaching and learning methods

This lesson is based on “ task-based teaching theory” and “ the second language acquisition”. In this period, I will take the task-based teaching method. I will encourage the students to use their own knowledge, experience and the title to infer or predict the contents of the text. I will let the students input and output much information. I will ask the students to collect information by using cards, the flash pictures, charts, stick figures, forms, tables, tape recording, music, body language, slideshows, multi-media, white board and so on to create a more understanding, practical and communicative situation. In this situation, I will get the students to use observation, analysis, comparison, generalization, competition etc. to learn the material actively. With the studying strategies of Different Opinions and classifying, get the students to do pair work to ask and talk about their jobs.

五、Analysis of the students

In this period, the most difficult is that the students do not have enough words and phrases, reading skills and that they are not used to thinking in English. So I will try my best to use different kinds of ways to create situation and attract the students’ interest in learning English. And the most important one is to make the teaching material more closely connected to the students’real life.

It can be followed by the topic “People who are happy with their jobs”. It can make the class have

a pleasant beginning.

Task 2 Pre-reading

1. Brainstorming

Help the students to say what kind of job Suzy can do. Ask: What jobs will be suitable for them in the future? Encourage the students to give their own ideas.

Present some pictures about jobs, such as artist, teacher, manager, doctor, engineer, accountant, player and so on. Help the students to say what personality they should have if they want to these jobs.

Students finish Part B1 on page 10 and the n check the answers with the whole class.

Design ideas:①In an English, no students want to remember the words and phrases in a boring way. So before the students learn the text, I will show the students some pictures. I will teach them to pronounce them and make sentences using them. Then I will ask the students to use some pictures that they have prepared before class to ask and answer so that they can learn to use the new words and phrases more quickly. ② I will use some questions to lead in this lesson and let the students think of some other words about them. Then use white board to show a table to divide these words into different groups to help the students to memorize the words more easily.

2. Background information

Introduce something about jobs that people like to practice.

Design ideas:Most students are not aware of their own jobs they want to take.

Tell the students:Today we’re going to meet some people who are outstanding in their fields.Get the students to look through the text quickly and answer the following questions:

(1) How many people are mentioned in the article? Who and what are they?

2. Listening and scanning

Play the tape for the students to listen and tell the whole class whether the statements are true or false. Ask the students to finish Part B2.

Design ideas: Listening and reading are two effective ways to get information.

Reading while listening can get the students to have the ability of fast-reading and they can also help students get some more detailed information from the text.

3. Careful-reading

Play the tape for the students to listen and repeat. And then help the students answer the following questions:

Students read the text again and finish Part B3. Check the answers in pairs.

Design ideas:Students read after the tape to practice their tongues and mouths. It can also let the students have a better understanding about the text. For the questions, I think we can divide the class into two groups. One group designs some questions about the text and the other tries to find information and answer these questions. Thus there is an “information gap” between them, which can make the students interested in speaking.

4. Retelling the story in your own words according to the keywords given.

Say:Do you remember the four persons who are outstanding in their fields? What jobs do they do?

to train the students’ ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. This activity can encourage the students to use the language freely without having to thinking of it.

Discussion: Choose one of the following topics to have a discussion in groups.

(1)What do you think of your parents’ jobs? Describe them in a few sentences.

(2)Suppose you were a TV programme-maker of the chat show channel, make a programme on

a brief introduction of famous people’s jobs for the special column “ US-Talk Show”.

(3)Suppose you were a TV host/hostess of the chat show, make a live interview to an official, a

sportsman/sportswoman or an audience. The topic is “How do you like your job? If you have

a chance to change your job, what will you do?”

Design ideas:Create the situation that the students are familiar with. So the students can take part in the discussion willingly. It can give the students the opportunity to use the target language in appropriate ways in a less controlled and more natural environment. In can also help the students to learn more knowledge about the text.

Step 4 Consolidation

A debate can be given to the students. The teacher can give the students the following situations:

1. Different people have different ideas about jobs (an artist/an accountant/an engineer/a doctor/a teacher/…), Some of them think they should study hard to get more knowledge, preparing for their bright future. However, some people have a belief they should enjoy life. So they always play games, have big dinners out, surf the Internet and so on. What’s your idea?

2. Which job can make you become rich or earn a lot of money more easily? Tell us your reasons.

Design ideas:This activity can make the students learn how to select specific and relevant details to consolidate information and it can also get the students to tell the right things from the wrong things. Group activity can make the students learn how to cooperate with each other. Competition activity can make the students actively take part in the class activities.

Design ideas: Give the students some exercises to check how much they have understood the reading material. In order to develop the students’ ability of using English, they need to be given such a useful chance to produce it.

Surf the Internet and collect further information about jobs. After-school activities are a complement to in-class activities. Letting the students search the Internet for more information can train the students’ ability of learning by themselves and looking for information on the Internet. It can encourage the students to produce imaginative writing using factual details creatively and use the English language to express their own imagination.
