TRAINS

It was a warm April day when a letter came from the only college I had ever dreamed of attending. I don't remember ever smiling so wide, But then I found that the cost of Dream School's tuition（学费）was around $ 40,000 - an impossible amount! How could I afford to attend? What good reasons did I have to go there when three other fine colleges were offering me free tuition?

English people think that the home is a place to protect themselves from the outside world, not one for others to see and enjoy. For them, their house is a personal place in which they go to hide away from the troubles of life.
To the Americans, their home is an expression of themselves, a place to show others what kind of people they are. So they would very much like to have visitors in their house and see it. Americans also want their home to be a place where they can have fun and share their lives with their friends.
English people, on the other hand, usually spend much more time with friends at public places. Few people would be invited to an Englishman's home. You could work with a person or live next door to someone for years, but you could never see the inside of his home.
If you are invited, that is great. It's a good idea to bring something to drink or eat. You can do the same thing in an American home, too.
Once inside the house, the rules（规则）change again. Don't ask to see more than what the English people show you. Never ask how much their house or any of the things in it cost. The Americans, on the other hand, may be glad to show you around their house. They will be pleased when you show your interest and ask how expensive something is.
Both English and American people will have a lot of chat, and a drink or two before the meal. Remember, never eat with your mouth open and make any noise while you eat.
Another rule in both countries is not to show your own idea about their country or its customs. Most people are proud of their country and their way of doing things, even though they are not happy with it! So it is best just to listen and smile politely.
