If you ask me to share my best experience during my university, I will first tell you this experience that I acted as a “manager” in a cafe during my second summer holiday at university.
Another busy exam week had gone, and the following was the anticipated summer vacation. I put my summer holiday task aside and gave myself some time to relax at first.
One afternoon after it rained, I leisurely walked along peaceful alameda and enjoyed the beautiful time of holiday. Unconsciously, I was attracted by a cafe decorated in an ancient style. So I couldn’t help walking toward the cabin.
Entering the unique cafe, I really love this place. Away from busy study life and noisy the center of city, it was pretty fine to stay at the quiet and graceful cabin. Half an hour later, I knew that the cafe only had one employee, namely the boss who was a elegant lady and she was meaning to employ summer worker to help her run the cafe temporarily. Not surprisingly, I introduced myself and promised I could work the next day.
Time went smoothly, and I had worked at this place for two weeks. Every day I enjoyed my job till closing time. My boss considered me as her friend and told me her experience in her free time. One morning, when I engaged in cleaning, with solemn face she came up to me, gave some money to me and said, “the money is your salary for these days.
I had something to resolve and have to leave for several
days.”However, before I disappointedly said I would depart this afternoon, she added, “Would you help me run this cafe during the following days? I know you have some homework to do, but I can’t find more proper person to help me currently. I would give you double wages whether it is profitable or not.”
I secretly smiled and said, “Of course, I could. But the reward should be the original level. I would try my best to keep the previous level of
profit. Thanks for your trust!”Meanwhile, I remembered my holiday task ----hand in a practice report related to my major, business management. I could make full use of this chance through truly running the cafe and probe the way of management to put what I had learned from books into practice.
According to my knowledge and experience from my boss, I acted as a manager during her absent days. Not letting her down, I kept the original profit level. At that summer, I gained more. What I learned from running cafe made me deeply understand the contents of my major, as well as friendship and trust.
