From my father I have learned a lot. And I’m very thankful to him. I remember when I was a child, my father always got up very early, quietly putting on his clothes and going off to work. To arrive in time to open his tiny store at 8:30, he needed to leave our apartment at 6:30. After all, he had to take a bus and then the subway. The last journey was a long walk through a neighborhood much of which was full of the smell of rubbish. I learned: it is very important to work. No excuse(借口).

Is there intelligent (有智力的) life on other planets? For years, scientists said “no.” or “we don’t know.” But today this is changing. Seth Shostak and Alexandra Barnett are astronomers(天文学家). They believe intelligent life exists (存在) somewhere in the universe. They also think we will soon contact (联系)these beings(人;生物).

Why do Shostak and Barnett think intelligent life exists on other planets? The first reason is time. Scientists believe the universe is about 12 billion years old. “This is long enough for other planets to have intell igent life,” Shostak and Barnett said. The second reason is size—the universe is huge. “Tools like the Hubble T elescope(哈勃望远镜) have shown that there are at least 100 billion galaxies,” says Shostak. “And our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 100 billion stars. Some planets going around these stars might be similar to Earth.”

In the past, it was hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe. But now, powerful telescopes(高倍望远镜) allow scientists to discover smaller planets—the size of Mars or Earth—in other solar systems. These planets might have intelligent life.

Hav e beings from space already visited Earth? “Probably not,” says Shostak. “It’s a long way away. However, intelligent beings may contact us in other ways, such as radio signals(信号). In fact, they may be trying to communicate with us now, but we don’t have the right tools to receive their messages. However, this is changing. 浅谈中学英语听力教学策略 【摘要】在英语听力学习中,多数学生存在听力障碍。影响听力学习的制约因素有听力材料题材内容、语言知识、文化背景知识及心理因素,英语听力教学应综合考虑这些因素的作用和关系,并采取适当的教学策略,才能达到听力教学的目标要求。 【关键词】中学英语听力教学目标要求策略 听力技能的培养是一个综合技能的培养,包括学生对句子,对文章的理解能力、逻辑思维能力和概括能力,同时也是培养学生的语言交际能力。但在英语听力学习中,多数学生存在听力障碍。影响听力学习的制约因素有听力材料题材内容、语言知识、文化背景知识及心理因素,英语听力教学应综合考虑这些因素的作用和关系,并采取适当的教学策略,才能达到听力教学的目标要求。 1.制约英语听力教学的因素 1.1 文化知识。 学生的知识面和他们对英语国家的政治、历史、地理、文学、教育、哲学、科技、艺术、社会生活等多方面知识的了解程度,有时能起关键性的作用,如有的听力材料中出现WatergateMfair(水门事件),因为这件有关美国总统竞选的丑闻发生在二十世纪七十年代,有的学生不明白是怎么回事,这也是缺乏背景知识的一种表现。了解有关的英语背景知识不仅能提高学生的听力,还有助于增强阅读能力,提高英语水平。 1.2 心理因素。 当人的情绪处于紧张、焦虑时,就容易产生恐惧心理,从而使本可听懂的内容无法正确理解。听者的动机是影响其听力效果的重要心理因素之一,学生听音目的明确,且有强烈的听音欲望,其听音效果就好。反之,如对听音活动无兴趣,就会产生心理抵触和厌倦情绪。克拉申认为影响二语习得的心理因素主要有以下三类:学习者的动机、自信心和焦虑感。学习者学习动机不足、缺乏自信,焦虑感强会对语言输入产生很强的过滤作用,学习者不会主动获取更多的语言输入,并使其难以进入语言习得机制,从而妨碍语言的习得;相反,学习者学习动机强烈,又有自信心,焦虑感弱,其情感过滤的作用则很弱,可以获得更多的语言输入,并易于进入语言习得机制。 1.3 听力材料。 多数学生以前从未接受过正规的语音训练,所以他们有的发音不标准,甚至错误百出。很显然,错误的语音对听力在很大程度上产生误导作用,如果长期接受错误的信息刺激,那么以后听到正确的发音,就会造成信息传递障碍或信息传

如何进行有效的初中英语听力教学 一、初中英语听力教学的现状 虽然听力教学一直被置于外语教学的首位,但是从中学英语各类测试的现状分析,听力较之词汇、语法、阅读等项目仍属弱项。首先,学生的听力受到传统教学方法和落后的教学设备的限制。学生的听力能力迟迟得不到提高。其次,许多学生词汇量欠缺,由于视觉效果不能与听觉效果有效地结合起来,所以学生在听力过程中经常碰到意想不到的问题。第三,学生在听录音的过程中,面对一些长句子,甚至是一些段落的题目时,不能进行有效记忆。这可以看出听力过程的交际性和过程性,听力活动的真实性等在听力教学中都没有得到体现。 二、听力教学中存在的问题 虽然听力教学已经被越来越多的人重视,但其中仍然存在不少问题,值得我们深思。(1)听力教学缺少接触自然语言的环境,虽然现在教学条件有所改善,多媒体的广泛使用等大大促进了英语听力教学的发展,但是大部分教师和学生尚不能给予听力足够的重视,只是为了考试而学;(2)学生层次复杂,大班教学费时低效,不利于教师因材施教;(3)在实际听力教学中,很多教师习惯于只是放录音,重复做练习,对答案,再听。总体而言,对多媒体和网络技术的应用不充分,方式也不灵活,真实运用意义上的听力教学比较薄弱。 学生在听力学习上存在的主要问题如下:(1)语音辨别能力差。他们在进行听力训练时不能很清晰地辨别一些单词,甚至有时会误听成其它单词;(2)猜字的技能薄弱。在听力中,学生难免会听到一些陌生的单词,而他们不可能有足够的时间去理解,只能根据上下文内容去进行猜测。(3)词汇量少之又少,不能理解重要细节,有的学生既听不懂又讲不出,词汇量严重不足,能积极使用的词汇则更少。(4)母语的干扰以及没养成正确的听力习惯。三、初中教学中英语听力的环节 目前,我们使用的《新目标》每个单元的section a的1b,2a,2b section b的2a,2b都有听力训练,这些听力材料新颖,取材地道,英语纯正,时代性强,材料内容比较贴近学生生活,趣味性浓厚,但有的材料有点深度。为了提高学生听力效果,这就要求我们教师不能照本宣科,要善于针对不同难度的材料,联系自己的学生做灵活的处理。听力教学分成“听前”、“听时”和“听后”三个阶段。 (1)听前(pre-listening) 这一阶段主要以确立听力期望,激活背景知识,展开话题,激发动机以及语言和语音微格教学训练为主要手段。教师对学生进行听力训练时,必须从基础的语音入手,逐步过渡到单词短语、句子、对话和语篇。在初始阶段,教师要尽量降低学生答题的难度和要求,做到既顾及学生的理解能力和听力活动的可操作性和趣味性,又达到逐步提高学生听力的目的。就学生而言,要想提高听力能力则必须做到以下几点:①养成良好的听力习惯,边听边作笔记以减轻记忆负担;②平时要加强语音训练,多模仿,培养语感;③多阅读,扩大词汇。(2)听时(while-listening) 听时阶段是听力的关键时期,也是教师最难控制的阶段,以信息理解和技能训练为主,这一阶段,教师给学生提供形式各样的任务,有助于学生集中注意力,这些任务应该遵循层层递进的原则,有利于培养学生的成就感。另外,教师还应从听力过程入手,注重培养学生听力策略。应授之以“渔”而非“鱼”。对学生而言,听的过程不是被动的,而是主动的过程,即学生要主动去构建新的知识。 (3)听后(post-listening) 听后是听时的延伸,同时为下一次听时做准备,主要是巩固听力信息和技能评估听力效

2、对策 通过对上述教学案例的分析,我认识到在进行听力教学时,我们要考虑这样一个问题:这节听力课要教会学生什么,仅仅是完成听力任务中的几个问题,还是获取知识的方法?应采用什么样的方法让更多的学生参与到活动中来,使学生得到更大的受益?对于上述案例我作了以下几点补充与调整: 1)听力预测不可少。有些教师由于时间紧,就把Pre-listening 部分省略,或用一句话代替。其实,听前的活动对后面的一系列听力活动顺利进行至关重要。没有必要的预测、铺垫,就激不起听的兴趣;没有必要的铺垫,就不能激活学生原有的背景知识,就会影响对内容的理解;没有必要的铺垫,学生的思维、情感态度就不能进入听的状态,自然会影响听的效果。 2)进行逐段播放听力材料,要求学生尽力抓住主要内容,同时在听的过程中将这些内容与自己听前所做的预测进行比较,从而达到进一步理解的效果。听完后完成相应的练习。 3)听与说紧相连。为了使学生能更好地加深对该篇听力材料的理解并及时巩固,再次向学生呈现图片,要求学生在图片的帮助下,对课文进行复述,可以先让学生进行小组准备开展合作学习。这样,不仅锻炼了学生的英语口头表达
