(CNN)—China’s first lunar rover(月球车) got separated successfully from the

unmanned spacecraft Chang'e-3 that landed on the moon Saturday.[来源:https://www.doczj.com/doc/9e177123.html,]

Jade Rabbit (called Yutu in Chinese) is a six-wheeled lunar rover equipped with at least four cameras and two mechanical legs that can dig up soil samples

to a depth of 30 meters.

The solar-powered rover will wander around the moon’s surface, studying the structure of the lunar crust as well a s soil and rocks, for at least three months. The robot’s name was decided by a public online poll(投票) and comes from a Chinese tale about the pet white rabbit of a goddess, Chang’e, who is said to live on the moon.

Weighing 140 kilograms, the slow-moving rover carries an optical telescope for astronomical observations and a powerful camera that will monitor how solar activity affects the various layers(层)—troposphere, stratosphere and ionosphere —that make up the Earth’s atmosphere, China’s information technology ministry said in a statement.

The Jade Rabbit is also equipped with radioisotope(放射性同位素) heater units, allowing it to work during the cold lunar nights when temperatures plunge as low as -180°C (-292°F).

The moon exploration makes China one of only three nations — after the United States and the former Soviet Union — to “soft-land”on the moon’s surface, and the first to do so in more than thirty years.

D. It is equipped with a special material called Yu.

47. The moon rover can do the following EXCEPT___________.

A. Taking photos of the moon from different angles

B. Moving freely without any outer energy

C. Monitoring how the various layers of atmosphere changes

D. Studying the soil and rocks at the depth of 30 meters on the moon

48. The underlined word “plunge” means ______________.

A. rise by

B. fall by

C. reduce to

D. increase to

49. What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Chinese moon rover launched successfully

B. Unmanned spacecraft Chang'e-3 landing on the moon

C. China becoming a powerful nation in space exploration.

D. Chinese moon rover coming from a Chin ese tale

presents. But now, all of Danny’s jolly laughing

seemed like the hysterical crust over a havoc

predictable arguments…” Published by Four Way

Books.

Seven Tales and Seven Stories by W.P. Osborn Most of these stories in this debut book from Unboxed Books were published in well-established literary magazines, but the unnerving whole of their collection becomes more than the sum of the parts as Osborn successfully blends reality and fantasy. The Tories would allow children to go to school for ten hours a day and on Saturday mornings to improve the performance of poorer pupils and help working parents. Schools spokesman Michael Gove declared plans yesterday to give disadvantaged children more classroom time to help them catch up. Longer school days could also be popular with parents who struggle to fit 3pm school finishing times around work, he said.

Mr. Gove gave out the success of a U.S. plan where teenagers from poor backgrounds attend school from 7.30 am to 5pm. “I believe that ha ving children in school for longer, particularly if they come from disadvantaged backgrounds can help them to achieve more in academy, ”he told the annual conference of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers in Manchester. He pointed out that it was up to schools alone to decide whether to open longer, or at weekends. But he was greeted with laughter from delegates (代表)when he said the plan would really work only with the active support of teachers.

ATL general secretary, Dr Mary Bousted, said, “The last thing we need to be doing at the pre sent time is increasing teachers’ working hours. Teachers already work the m ost unpaid overtime of any public sector profession. If we want Saturday schools then we need more teachers doing the extra hours, not the same teachers working longer and becoming tir ed.”

Meanwhile Mr Gove's idea is likely to alarm those concerned about the erosion(侵蚀)of family time. Margaret Morrissey, founder of the lobby group Parents Outloud, said, “What we should be doing is supporting these children within the school week.”

53. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 1?

A. The Tories required all students to stay longer at school.

B. Some parents didn’t support the arrangement.

C. A new plan was used to help the disabled children.

D. A plan was to meet some students’ and parents’ needs.

A. studies

B. health

C. confidence

D. communication

55. According to the passage, which of the following is true?

A. Each school in that area has to open longer or work at weekends.

B. Parents who can’t pick up their children on time support the action.

C. According to Gove, the teachers there agree to longer school days.

D. The new plan will undoubtedly help poorer pupils catch up with others.

We are all called upon to make a speech at some point in life, but most of us don’t do a very good job. This article gives some suggestions on how to give an effective speech.

So, you have to give a speech and you’re terrified. You get nervous, you forget what you want to say, you stumble over words, you talk too long and you bore your audience. Later you think, “Thank goodness, it’s over. I’m just no good at public speaking. I hope I never have to do that again.”

Cheer up! It doesn’t have to be that bad. Here are some simple steps to take the pain out of speech making. Ask yourself the purpose of your speech. What is the occasion? Why are you speaking? Then, gather as many facts as you can on your subject. Spend plenty of time doing your research. Then spend plenty of time organizing your material so that your speech is clear and easy to follow. Use as many examples as possible and use pictures, charts and graphs if they help you make your points clearer. Never forget your audience. Don’t talk over their heads and don’t talk down to them. Treat your audience with respect. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Just remember: Be prepared. Know your subject, your audience and the occasion. Be brief. Say what you have to say and then stop. And be yourself. Let your personality come through so that you make person-to-person contact with your audience.

If you follow these simple steps, you’ll see that you don’t have to be afraid of public speaking.

I n fact, you may find the experience so enjoyable that you volunteer to make more speeches! You’re not convinced yet. Give it a try and see what happens.

Possible version

Dear teacher and classmates,[来源:https://www.doczj.com/doc/9e177123.html,]

To my joy, the Spring Festival is approaching, but how shall we spend it in a new way? In my opinion, I will do what I can to share housework, such as doing some cleaning, and watch the Spring Festival Gala with my them, after enjoying a get-together dinner. What’s more, it is also fun to visit my relatives while I am free.

The time is so valuable that I shouldn’t waste most of the time playing computer games, chatting on the Internet or watching videos. For a student, study must come first. However, besides this, I would prefer to go outside to do some meaningful things as a volunteer for our society, for example, putting up some posters to publicize the traffic rules and call on people to observe/obey them.

If you are in favor of my idea, don’t hesitate to join me please.

Tha t’s all, thank you.

M: Good! There's the information desk... How do we get t0 66th Street, please?

W: The York Line is what you want.

M: How much is it?

W: It's a dollar fifty.

M: How do we get to that train?

W: Just go through the No.2 gate over there. A subway train will be arriving shortly.

M: 1 appreciate your help, thank you.

W: You're welcome.

W: Excuse me. Do you think I can return these gloves?

M: What's the problem with them?

W: They're too small.

M: Didn't you try them on before you bought them?

W: Well, as a matter of fact, I received them as a gift.

M: OK I see. I'm afraid I can't give you cash, but you can exchange them for another pair.

W: Do you have any other gloves that are the same price?

M: Yes, we have several other styles that also sell for $30. 1'11 bring some out for you to look at.

W: Ooh, that pair looks nice! May I try those on?

M: That pair costs $35. If you want to get that pair, you'll have to pay the extra money.

W: OK. I like those best, so I'll do it.

M: You look very pale. Aren't you feeling well?

W: No. I was sick most of the night. I didn't sleep very well.

M: What's the matter? Is it the flu?

W: No, I think it's something I ate. We went to that new restaurant last night, and I must have eaten something that didn't agree with me.

M: Was it that new place on Fourth Street?

W: As a matter of fact. it was. Why do you ask?

M: Because Jerry ate there last week, and he had the same kind of problem. He was sick the next day, too.

W: That's interesting. Maybe the health department should investigate the place.

M: That's what I think. Two people with similar problems in such a short time!

Text 9

M: Hello? Laura?

W: Oh, thank goodness you picked up, Ray! I think I took a wrong turn somewhere. I don’t see any houses at all.

M: Is the river on your right or on your left?

W: Um… it’s on my left. I just went over a little bridge.

M: OK, just turn around and come back the way you came, all right?

W: All right. But don’t hang up the phone, OK? It’s really dark outside.

M:Turn on your lights to the highest level. That should help. So, continue driving for about one and a half miles. At the stop sign, you’ll see three big trees on your right. Take a left there, OK?

W: OK, and then what?

M: Go straight for half a mile until you see a group of houses on the left. My house is the one with all the lights on. I’ll wait for you outside.
