A

After the death of my mother a few years ago I found myself struggling to deal with my grief, and that of my father. It was two days before Christmas when Mum died and that made me feel heartbroken.Mentally,I became distanced from everything: I shut down my grief and focused on dealing with the practical stuff—just surviving each day.The problem was that every time I tried to ignore my grief, the pain and loss came back.I even started to avoid the places that my mother and I used to visit so much together.

I realised that was not a good way to be,and went looking for anything that

could help me deal with it.I wanted to understand why I was acting the way I was.I visited many psychologists and the local priest. They were well meaning and helpful people but I quickly realised that they simply put forward the same information over and over again, expecting me to just accept it and “get over” my grief. There was no information available about why I and my father were reacting, nor about what to do,how to understand and move forward.

I was determined to understand what my father and I were going through so I

started to do my own research.I read many books on grief and spoke to other people who were also in the process of dealing with grief. As I did that,I came to understand that,at some stage in our lives,we all face the loss of someone,or something, that we care greatly about.I also realised that in almost every case, there is absolutely nothing that we can do to prevent that loss,or change the circumstances in which it occurs.Unavoidably,we all must deal with the fact that,no matter how painful we feel by the loss, the world around us will go on as if nothing had changed.

1.The main idea of the passage is about .

A.the experience of dealing with grief

B.the pain of losing one's loved person

C.the books of healing one's grief

D.the information from experts

答案 A

2.Why did the author become distanced from everything spiritually?

A.Because her mother died a few years ago.

B.Because she suffered the grief of losing her father.

C.Because she intended to be out from grief.

D.Because she failed to do anything in daily life.

3.In order to pull herself together, the author did all EXCEPT .

A.the author tried to forget the grief and loss of mother

B.the author didn't visit the places her mother used to go to

C.the author sought for advice from experts

D.the author frequently talked with her father

解析细节理解题。根据文章第一段最后一、二句,可排A、B两项;根据第二段的第三句可知,作者拜访了很多心理学家和附近的牧师,由此排除C选项;

4.How does the author feel about the information from psychologists and the local priest?

A.Quite practical but meaningless.

B.Of no use and no value.

C.Helpful but impracticable.

D.Interesting and practical.

5.From the last paragraph we can learn that .

A.losing someone or something is a necessary test in life

B.books can help people solve any problems

C.doing something can prevent losing

D.loss can affect the surroundings deeply

答案 A

As I did that,I came to understand that,at some stage in our lives,we all face the loss of someone,or something, that we care greatly about.

B

Some parents think that once their children are at school, they can relax themselves. But this is not the case at all.As research shows, parents have an even

greater influence on their children's academic results than the school does. Most of a child's ability is formed from home.

The mass of parents don't realise how they can help their children at home.Things are as simple as baking a cake.An example of helping young children with their maths is simply planning a birthday party. They have to decide how many people to invite, how many invitations they will need, how many prizes, balloons need to be bought, and so on.Children often find that real life experiences help them to do their maths more easily.

Another way that parents can help their children with their maths is to give them pocket money. This not only teaches them about the value of money, but they may need to use basic maths to work out how long they will have to save to buy the special toy that they want.

Reading to children at an early age can give them a head start when they start school. But parents should not stop reading to children when they do start going to school. They still like to be read to,and it can help to increase their sight vocabulary as well.

Providing children with the right equipment can help with their education.Giving them a quiet place where they can work, read and do homework, with a good reading light and a comfortable chair and desk, are just some of these things.Parents can also help their children by providing them with some reference books, and any other relevant learning materials they might need.

Evidently, parents do need to take an active role in the education of their children. If parents want their children to do well at school, they must be prepared to help educate their children at home.

1.The passage is mainly talking about that .

A.education starts at home

B.parents can control their children

C.ability affects a child's academic result

D.good equipment leads to good grades

答案 A

2.As for most parents,.

A.they don't think the research result is reasonable

B.they have different opinions with experts

C.they are unaware of what to do for children at home

D.they are lazy in preparing the birthday party

3.If you want to improve your child's maths ability, you can .

A.prepare his/her birthday party as big as possible

B.leave the things used for the party done by children

C.purchase all the things needed by yourself

D.let your children count the cups and so on

4.From the passage we can know that .

A.children can get their pocket money by working

B.parents usually read to preschool children

C.parents prefer to offer pocket money to read

D.children would rather read by themselves after starting school

5.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?

A.Reading to children can help them recite more words.

B.Parents must prepare reference books as many as possible.

C.A quiet study area is of great help for children.

D.Parents can teach their children at home.

【温馨提示】have an influence on 对……

This not only teaches them about the value of money, but they may need to use basic maths to work out how long they will have to save to buy the special toy that they want.

后一个分句中省略了also,在这个分句中,how long they will have to save to buy the special toy that they want 作work out 的宾语,是宾语从句,其中的不定式表目的,that they want 是定语从句,修饰先行词toy, that可以省去。

阅读理解综合练(十二) A (2016·10浙江) Digital technology—email and smart phones especially—have vastly improved workers’ ability to be productive outside of a traditional office.Even so,most white-collar work still happens in an office. One reason is that, according to findings of a new survey(调查) of office workers conducted by Wakefield Research for the IT company Citrix, most bosses are doubtful about remote working.Half of the workers say their boss doesn’t accept it,and only 35 percent say it’s tolerated. Skeptical bosses will likely have their doubts reinforced(加深) by the same survey, which shows that 43 percent of workers say they’ve watched TV or a movie while “working” remotely, while 35 percent have done housework, and 28 percent have cooked dinner. It is true, however, that working at home makes people much more efficient(高效的),because it allows workers to take care of annoying housework while still getting their jobs done. It’s much faster, for example,to shop for groceries at a quarter to three than to stand in line during the after-work rush. The fact that such practices remain officially unaccepted reflects how far we haven’t come as a society from the days when we expected every full-time worker to be supported by a full-time homemaker. More broadly the Wakefield survey suggests that employers may be missing a low-cost way to give workers something of value.Sixty-four percent of those survey participants who haven’t worked remotely would rather give up some bonus in order to get even one day a week working from home.Under such circumstances, smart firms need to find ways to let their employees have enough flexibility to manage their time efficiently. 1.Why do some employers hesitate to allow remote working? A.They fear losing control of their workers. B.They want to stick to their routine practice. C.The y have little trust in modern technology. D.They are used to face-to-face communication. 2.What seems to be most workers’ attitude toward remote working? A.Doubtful. B.Favorable. C.Reserved. D.Disapproving. 3.What does the author suggest smart firms do? A.Shorten their office hours. B.Give employees a pay raise.
